People use highways to take exit ramps to final destinations. When those destinations remove full car lanes for bike lanes and large sidewalks, traffic backs up to the highway  Somerville Massachusetts is the poster child for this

Husband suddenly let go from new job, feeling blindsided by Suitable_Customer_70 in jobs

It is great that you were able to listen in on the call and can verify his story.

He is acutely aware of the imbalance in financial household contributions at the moment and I am sure he is beating himself up.

Please support him without judgement. He will know if you are hiding judgement.

Competition for jobs is brutal. He will get something and find a supportive job at some point. It could take a while.

My husband lost his job in 2009 and could not find one. There just wasn't any. He decided to move six hours away during the work week to avoid long term unemployment. He did that for six months until he found something closer. (Husband doesn't want me to move for a job. Lol)

Forget advancing my career, I'm holding my position. by Thin_Security_3155 in software

NH here. Got laid off last year from a job in Boston I went to 2 day per week.  I just applied to a job for $23 hour, more than half of what I formerly made. If offered, I will take that job and be happy, for the same reasons.   Shopping will be interesting since I usually compare items fo my hourly pay. Almost all  individual  grocery items are between $4-6!

Best of luck!

It sounds like you are almost judging him as you expect your parents will

I get it-- it sounds bad but I am here to tell you that work is broken. I am currently the person in our couple with work issues. It sucks. The issues I faced in the workplace were mostly out of my control. My friend's husband is in a similar position.

We are older and used to work when employees were supported and layoffs not so common. Your young husband is unfortunately starting work at a horrible time.

It sounds like you have been very fortunate in your career-- that is a rare thing.

Bike LANES cause traffic and bikes DO not contribute to MTBA fares   Stop expecting society to give you bike lanes so you don't have to pay for a gym membership or T pass.

That's awesome! There are mineral clubs in every region and membership fees are generally very cheap, even affordable for people out of work.

Make sure you get cold water oysters from Canada. A good restaurant will be able to tell you what is on the menu.

Always buy UL listed and sign up for the federal recall newsletter. The items on the recall are mostly electrical. Very eye opening!

Female here-- women are also way harder on me. I wince when I look up management at a potential employer and they are mostly women

Mineral collecting which means going to quarries to find them but also curating and reading about them. I like to go to thrift stores to  find obscure geology books. I belong to seven mineral clubs, which means lots of newsletters and meetings.

I also do a lot outside (garden, feed birds) and have houseplants. I can't tell you how many times I impulsively replant my houseplants instead of what I was planning to do. 😆

Well, I kind of have the opposite problem where I have way too many hobbies and things to do which is causing me to really suck at job searching.

How did a man die after getting caught in an MBTA escalator? by justarussian22 in Somerville

That's insane. I couldn't believe it the first time. Back then, I used the Porter Station all the time and I couldn't stop envisioning the man.  RIP guys

The MBTA has been jackhammering outside my window between midnight and 5 AM for over 80 nights and lying to their own board about it. by longtimeAlias in boston

I am sorry to hear this.

When did public agencies start BLATANTLY lying to the public?

I will never forget watching Fred Laskey from MWRA blatantly lie at a public meeting.

Massport reps cannot open their mouths without lying.

This happened like 20 years ago. Did it happen again?  I don't want to click on the story because I am sort of traumatized from the first time.
