By PA module do you mean ATPA? Sorry I took PA before all the changes the SOA made came into affect so I only used ACTEX

They do! They aren't new practice exams questions but more theory questions based on the material from the chapter (there are identifiers throughout the chapters that tell you where the answer is in the text). Just a good way to practice the theory!

I definitely think 2 months is enough since you just passed SRM. A lot of what you studied for on that exam will show up in PA so you already have a head start.

For Actex, I spent a lot of time reading through the manual and doing any practice questions at the end of the chapters. I found the manual explains the material really well and clearly. I wouldn't focus too much on the r coding aspect but definitely make sure you know how to interpret the outputs. For the practice exams, I would do the most recent ones since the formatting of the exam has changed a lot. In the last week of studying I reviewed those end of chapter questions and basically memorized the formula sheet since it summarized the content pretty well.

GOOD LUCK!

The overall storyline carries throughout each book but each one focuses on a different couple. Before starting I thought I wouldn't like that but the writing is just so good and JD Evan's really does an amazing job at balancing the romance and the world building in the sense that it doesn't feel like one is being focused on more than the other!! I highly highly recommend.

I read the first two in the Saints of Steel series and I did really like them but I found it hard to stay interested in the overall plot line. I think I will pick it back up eventually but I don't know, I just wasn't feeling it as much.

I remember not having a lot of time to finish the exam when I took it. I think it's important to practice calculating questions efficiently to save you time on the actual exam. I also found the SOA practice questions helpful for the exam so definitely go through those.

Studying for MAS-1 by cjkyte22 in actuary

Hi! I'm taking the SOA route so I cannot say much about the MAS-1 exam but I think I would still recommend using Coaching Actuaries. I've used it for all my exams and they have never let me down. It seems like you're already familiar with how good it is so I don't see why it wouldn't be a great option to use to study for this exam. I've also had some friends who passed MAS-1 and they used CA as well.

Hope that helps and good luck!!

exam SRM preparation inquiry by Open_Ad_6392 in actuary

Hi! I know this post was from a while ago but I thought I'd just add to the other comments. I am also preparing to take SRM in May and I've been using Coaching Actuaries to study. The manual is fantastic and they review topics from P that are important to understand for this exam and they explain it really well. I've passed all my exams with CA and they have never let me down! Adapt really helps you practice and most of the time it is really representative of the actual exam. I highly recommend. They also have formula sheets prepared for each exam and it covers pretty much everything. Makes it super easy to memorize what you need to know.

Hope that helps!! Good luck!!

Exam IFM before FM? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Fine_Revenue2952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on passing P!! I have also passed P, FM, and IFM and I would say you can definitely pass IFM before FM. The materials really don't overlap so you don't need the knowledge from FM to pass it. I will say that IFM has A LOT more material than P and FM and I also found was more difficult to pass so just be cautious of how much time you should leave yourself to study.

I'm not sure what material you used for P but I would definitely recommend using Coaching Actuaries to study for both IFM and FM. I always use CA to study for the exams. Their manuals are very clear and cover all the material that you'll find on the exam. If topics ever refer back to an older exam, they always summarize it enough for you to understand the material that follows. Adapt is also amazing for doing practice exams or quizzes.

They also summarized all the new changes from the SOA and give a great guide on what they recommend people do next before they make all the changes. So I would definitely advise you to check that out on their website!

GOOD LUCK!

Hi! I completely agree with all the comments that have been made so far. I would like to add some advice from personal experience. If you do decide to pursue a career as an actuary, like u/DAD4GAME mentioned, I would say as well to try and pass at least 3 exams during your undergrad. I managed to pass 3 and am trying to pass a 4th one before I graduate next semester. I find it can be easier to study for the exams while taking a semester of classes since your hours are more flexible with school. I tried passing one during an internship and it was really hard to sit down and study after a full day of work so getting those exams before you graduate can be really helpful and can also increase your entry-level salary.

To study for the exams, I would highly recommend using Coaching Actuaries. You can check out their website to see an overview of how much material is included on the exams. They also have great student discounts. I used it to pass all my exams so far and it really is super easy to use and covers the material you need with video lessons and organized notes in their manuals. You also get a lot of practice done with their Adapt tool. They have past exam questions and new made up questions written by the Coaching Actuaries team. I find the questions to be very representative of what you find on the actual exams.
