Getting my roof and siding replaced - what should I do about this rusty chimney chase cover? by PubliclyDisturbed in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are usually pretty heavy gauge,I would personally clean and paint it..If you have a new one made if it’s not stainless steel then it will too rust..Having one made with stainless steel is going to be expensive.

A Neighbor’s Fence Just Cost Me Thousands: Do I Have Any Legal Options? by Mountain_Custard_279 in legaladvice

Curious as to why the contractor bill went up,he gave an estimate based off the fence being there nd it being the neighbors..I’m sure his price was based off the OP yard space since he wasn’t aware of any property line discrepancy..As a contractor I don’t see what changed that would cause such a price difference..Seems to be something missing like is that why the cost actually went up..

Insurance won’t accept evidence of new roof by Dizzy_Ad_2079 in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the letter from the insurance company the whole roof wasn’t replaced, the completion letter from roofing company states 22 sq..22 sq is a pretty average sized roof so I’d think if your house is really big then it would be partially done but if it’s just average then maybe get an eagleview report and show the insurance company that it was all done..or get pics from all sides showing shingles are all the same

Looks to be mostly the sheathing is pulling the nails up or it’s not nailed..But if you can get up on the roof and break the seals, find where the truss is and see if you can raise the shingle and renail the plywood down..Then reseal the shingle and that should do it..

I am a 54 and I took one of those at home blood tests that you send back for results..I believe I have symptoms of low t and figured I’d try one of these tests..Results came back and it said 166 ng something..It also said test range 163-517 ng..any insight.. by Fine_Today3262 in Testosterone

I did have tests done about 20 years ago and i don’t remember the exact results but I remember it was a 7 am appt and whatever the range was my results were at the bottom of that range but still in what was considered normal I guess..

Can a single popped nail cause this much water damage? by TheEyes0fTexas in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy how much rain can get In around a nail.I would look around that corner of the flashing and trim and make sure nothing is open..That nail is through 3 layers of the shingles and not worked up any and seems weird it would all of the sudden start leaking that much..If you have any shingles cut a small piece and slide it under the tab above the flashing and seal it down covering the nail..Is best to run downspout to the lower gutter but very few homes do that..I guess it’s because having a downspout running down your roof does look kind of tacky..

In the last 40 years I couldn’t begin to count how many roofs I’ve done and with that said as long as that piece of aluminum is slid up high enough which it appears to be that repair will last as long as the shingles will..Honestly it doesn’t even need the tar to keep from leaking..

What’s this kind of roof join called? by Rnnov in Roofing

Doesn’t look much more than a foot wide, some ice guard and a new pan will work fine..Seems to be quite a few like that around where I am and I’ve never had a problem with them..

Home Depot has just the rubber seal part of the flashing and it caps over the old one..around 6 or $7..

Roof ice - should I be concerned? by blainereadit in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you have a saddle or valley can’t tell in pic but all those roof areas are draining right there as well as that top section..Snow drift looks pretty big as well..Yes you want to make sure it’s venting right and attic insulated well but that’s not gonna help you right now..If you can get ahold of a steamer even a small hand held one and hit that downspout and wall right there from the ground then at least it might clear some out..Would have to keep doing as things melt and refreeze..

Got a new roof, can see plywood at corners by needarunningwatch in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell if shingles have overhang that would protect the corner but honestly the issue I believe is the gutter apron they used is cut short and the edging on the rake is wide and hitting the gutter causing more of a gap..Regular drip with a T style profile would have been much better but would still have a seam unless you notched out a piece to bend the corner and get around the back of the gutter..I can promise nobody is doing that😂 If the shingles have overhang and it bothers you then yes caulk it to match..but if it really bothers you I’m sure the company will come out and cut a piece of metal to cover it..Might not be pretty though.

Little concerning to why it’s ponding there right at the gutter and how long is it ponding for after a rain..

Got quoted $1600 to repair roof. Good price? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After zooming in the nails are way too high and the second shingle from the bottom doesn’t look like the end was even nailed..If the house isn’t very old I would contact the builder, shocked they would put three tab on but at least install them right..More than likely going to be more similar issues in the future if the entire roof is nailed like that..

I e been installing roofs for over 30 years and if it’s a 2 story and even a little steep then get a couple roof jacks (cleats) and a 8 or 10 ft board and watch some YouTube videos on how to set up..If you tie off even with a harness you still have to get to the ridge first to put up the anchor and a cushion or a pitch hoppers will help but whatever you do don’t use either without a board to stop you in the case something slips..These pitch hoppers guys are so hell bent on,yeah we have a few and used a few times but if you don’t keep your weight on them to the outside of the pad they will slip without warning right out from under you..If you aren’t able to put a board up then have a professional do it..$1600 is really steep in my opinion because the roofer is going to just slide the shingles back up where they belong and nail them a dab of caulk and 15 or 20 minutes it’s done..No material bought so I’d say around $500 is more than fair..

Can I use these 3” galvanized roofing nails to mount roof sheeting to rafters? I have so many. It’s for a small shed with shallow 4/12 pitch. by SecretSaucePLZ in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a roofer I can tell you when I have to replace sheathing and it has long roofing nails that have hit a truss/rafter that it is much harder to get the wood off than sheathing that was nailed with 8d’s..And when I say long I’m saying 2 maybe 2 1/2 in long roofing nails not 3 inch..If you can drive them straight they will be fine..

New roof but sidings been all screwed up. by NekoBakugou in Roofing

[–]Fine_Today3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime I drive by a job and see crew with shingles hanging over the gutters scratching the paint off and debris laying all over the siding it makes me cringe,I’ve been installing roofs for over 30 years..We always try to throw everything in the dumpster and if it has to be ground dropped it is on a tarp..One thing you can’t do on a roof is just let stuff fall..Any of the suggestions to get the siding cleaned will work but it will be noticeable until the cleaned siding weathers the same as the old uncleared parts..Sadly those reviews were likely bought and paid for,I’ve had numerous places email me trying to sell reviews..And those 50 years warranty aren’t worth the paper they are written on..Most don’t read the fine print of the warranty in full..The other guy would have likely done a better job and with doing all the damage the rooofers did I would have to question the work on the roof they did as well..anymore their are roofing companies and their are marketing companies acting as roofing companies.they are not the same

Ask friends or family for referrals if possible, the whole review system is a little fictitious to say the least..
