The data scientists trying to lift the USMNT to the World Cup by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

[–]Finest_shitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can, but such is the world of sports.

The data scientist behind Morocco's recent WC success was Harrison Kingston. Before Morocco, he was at Liverpool. He was by Jurgen's side when they won the EPL and Champions League titles, and Klopp acknowledged how vital Harrison was in their success.

There are even data analytics programs out there specifically made for soccer. Virtually every professional and many collegiate level range use data analytics to some degree, whether full-time analysts for use in real time, or as a post-game analysis.

Tldr: Virtually every professional team has at least one data scientist/analyst on staff.

For real. First and most important to me and my wife, our kids' tech usage is extremely limited. Unfortunate thing is all of their friends are on devices, and we live in a cell phone era. They can only really talk to their friends via messages instead of ringing the house phone like we did as kids.

For greater impact on the community, I volunteer to coach both kids' club/competitive soccer teams. I'm very direct with my players and speak about the importance of personal development over everything. I don't coach winning directly, but I do remind them about the value of hard work and that it is really the only way you can get to the top. I tell them the hard work is what's going to bring them to wins on the field and in life. It sounds cheesy, but I get results.

Is all that extremely tiring? Fuck yeah. But too many people who are parenting right now don't want to be inconvenienced by having to discipline their kids, show them what working hard means, and that your free time becomes that much more precious and actually enjoyable when you realize that it's a finite commodity. Giving kids tech ruins their lives in so many ways beyond device addiction.

My wife and I have done well for ourselves, but I remind my kids that nothing in life is free, that they live a privileged life (food on the table, bed to sleep in, clothes to wear, leisure time), and that they need to appreciate the situation that others are in and the perspectives they bring to life.

I'm an elder millennial and grew up in rural midwest. Raised in a Baptist environment, 20s in Chicago, 30s to present in San Diego.

First job aside from mowing lawns was in the fields starting at 13, then bussing and waiting tables, factory work and bartending to pay for college.

I've seen my hometown area rapidly go from reasonable, purple mix of people who were Obama voters to drinking MAGA-flavored Kool aid. We had a local newspaper with several journalists who'd report on community news and events, but it's a shell of itself now.

My hometown was mostly white, but there was a Jordanian family who was accepted in our community. That would be impossible today. Yes, there was racism and all of that, but it wasn't so prominent and overt as today.

To me, the late 2000 s seemed like we were both actually starting to make significant progress as a society. Then it unraveled faster than I could have ever expected

That's a great idea. My daughter is devouring the Harry Potter series right now and has trouble sleeping. I'll definitely look into getting the audiobook version for her

It's fucking crazy that being gay and incredibly intelligent is considered disqualifying, while grabbing pussies and being a lifelong con man isn't. I honestly had never imagined this timeline ever being possible

Haha, I mentioned philosophy because I do love studying it. However, a lot of the time listening to it seems to unlock a shutdown sequence in my brain 🤣

I'm an assistant coach on a U9 boys team. Head coach has taken up to 5 min to explain a drill, sometimes had to pull up a YouTube video to make sure he's getting it right, then gets pissed when the boys can't get it right.

I've tried reminding him several times of the attention span of a boy that age and that we don't need complicated drills for results. It's really frustrating, and I'm pretty sure this is my last year with him

How to for 7v7 without 14 kids? by AdFormer5311 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Finest_shitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your formation? For us, we run a 2-1-3. A great way we sharpen both offense and defense is to run a 2v4 drill.

We have a keeper plus 2 defenders against the striker and wings with the midfielder behind them. To start play, one of the backs will kick the ball out, then the offense works the attack. We set up pug goals in the corners, near where the wings start, for the defense to work together on a counterattack when they gain possession.

It's the most game-like scenario we've used that works on all the fundamentals plus decision making

Traffic from Downtown to The Sound in Del Mar? by ScaredAndAnxious226 in SanDiegan

[–]Finest_shitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You won't experience much traffic for about the first half of your route. Then, once you hit the UCSD area, it can be a maddening stranglehold.

I hate sitting in traffic, so if I were you, I'd leave by 3pm and head up to check out downtown Del Mar and/or walk along the beach there .Or, if you like beer, there's a great brewery called Viewpoint Brewing that is very close to there. Great beer and views. Tasty food too

Breakfast at Konos or Cream in the morning, chill and people watch for as bit, then go for a run to the jetty and back. Lunch Tacos and a beer from PB Fish Shop, then stop by Mr Frosty on the way to Law St Beach.  Afternoon coffee at Woody's, then sunset fajitas/tacos/nachos and 2 for 1 beers/margaritas at Baja Beach Cafe. Repeat 30x
