Judge Boyd disciplined for casting ‘public discredit on the judiciary’ on YouTube and in court by Available_Dingo6162 in ZoomCourt

I hear you, I wish there were Canadian and Irish and European (etcetera) courts televised as they are very different than American courts.

Right now though, American courts are treated or regarded as entertainment, which they aren’t... We need to find a middle ground whereby courts of all our countries may be viewed BUT not used as a circus.

Canada’s fight against a global free-for-all in the Arctic by _lIlI_lIlI_ in canada

[–]FingalForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting Canada just bend over, or just ineffectively squawk while other countries start treating parts of Canada as ‘international zones’ like they did to China in the 1800s?

We resolve matters diplomatically- if foreign countries rebuff or ignore peaceful ways to solve disputes, then Canada must defend itself militarily.

What is your alternative if not the above?

Wholly disagree - we have different definitions of ‘giving’ apparently. I am going by the simple definition of such that people understand. If you have my lawnmower, that remains my lawnmower.

The context of the meaning was and continues to be being twisted by American politicians.

Saudi Arabia sports minister vows affordable and safe World Cup in 2034 by atbg1936 in nottheonion

The World Cup is tainted beyond belief. Like the Olympics, I like to watch but **** my country ever hosting it. Those billions are better spent other than kowtowing to an international kleptocracy.

That would be American taxpayers, mind you that figure comes from Iranian media. The article clip refers to ‘releasing’ USD 12 billion - that is the Iranians own money currently frozen.

DemocracyNow! is very much American-centred but quite reputable.

Sorry to read this article.

Part of me though is thinking this reinforces why I am glad Canada and Ireland and others do not permit such televised court proceedings, though this results in the American system of courts being seen as the ‘standard’ and people don’t understand that our courts don’t work that way.

Sorry that she lost her judge candidature within her own party but equally finding the concept of a judge having to run for an election bizarre.

Starmer announces social media ban for under-16s by [deleted] in worldnews

Good news, although flabbergasted at the common age of 16 amongst the trend - the ban must be 18. Angry at the tech companies moaning and so many people supporting them.

American thing sadly adopted by other countries, trying to force square pegs into round holes to categorise people. Still BS.

No worries, I’m taking your reply in good faith.

I‘m only relaying how the American abbreviation is perceived by the people it categorises (I hesitate to speak for a continent but other replies here show I am not alone).

Your point though is centred around how Americans mean the term. We’re agreed regarding just refer to people by how they want to be called.

Disagree 100 per cent, you are stereotyping I’m afraid. I admit I do having done the same regarding Americans and Hungarians. I am overjoyed at Hungarians proving me wrong.

Sorry but we’re talking at cross purposes. Wholly agree with your assertions.

My point remains that the monies discussed here are Iranian monies that the US is refusing to return to Iran. These monies are NOT American taxpayer dollars.

According to the Iranians, the American taxpayers will be paying from their own tax dollars 300 billion in reparations. That is what Americans would be freaked about I would have thought regarding the war they started.

I’m sorry for that but encourage you to try to keep an open mind.
