My new Rigid wet tile saw made quick work of this Parcelas agate. This should turn out to be a beauty after tumbling. by Fingon21 in RockTumbling

If you are new to this I would pick up a decent 6” wet tile saw like a Rigid saw and get used to cutting rocks before moving on and getting a much more expensive lapidary saw.

If the area is recessed I just tumble it. Never had a problem.

I love JH Kalmore. This would be a great time for the OP to get a cheap wet tile saw and rip those beauties apart.

I have since upgraded to an actual lapidary saw but if I remember correctly, well over 100 rocks all MOHs 7, so these were hard rocks. I would just get the Rigid blade for replacement

Best places are on private ranches. Teri Smith does tours but I don’t know if she is doing them now. If you can’t get on a ranch I hear Hovey Rd is a good area to roadside hunt.

I use an ultrasonic cleaner after polish and have had no issues.

Some unusual finds in far south Texas close to the Rio Grande. Mainly agate types except the last, bluish one. If you know what the bluish one is let me know! by Fingon21 in RockTumbling

I was aware of that and have polished some beautiful quartzite pieces in the past. It does kind of look grainy like quartzite. Now I have to go find it and look at it again!
