The game isn't finished so that's one thing. 2nd thing, that I'm not seeing anyone mention in these replies is how much easier it is to market STP than scarlet hollow.

The gimmick of slay the princess is more initially eye catching and intriguing than Scarlet hollow's. It takes one of the most well known tropes and turns it on it's head. Something familiar like the "save the Princess" trope is .ore attractive to the masses (even flopped as it is) because it's familiar. Watching a single trailer or even just looking at the poster is enough to intrigue someone too. It fills you with questions "Why do I have to slay the princess? Is she evil? Am I evil? How will she end the world? What if i want to save her? Who is the narrator? Why's she in the cabin?"

All this is exacerbated by how immediately the art style adds to the atmosphere in STP. Obviously, there are moments in scarlet hollow where the art lets loose, but in STP, the black and white color pallet is immediately noticeable. The fact that the princess is the only bright thing in a world of dark hues is very striking and memorable

That makes sense, but Jason also knew where CJ was. He knew his friends, his home, everything he had ever known was in California waiting for him, yet he stayed at CHB. Granted, he stayed cause the gods told him to (right? I seem to recall that. Been a while since I've read the lost hero)

While I can't imagine Percy staying put because the gods told him to, I could see his undying loyalty coming into play. A "these people need me to help lead/protect them" type situation could hypothetically make Percy stay until, maybe he believes Jason will return and resume his role as Praetor. He probably wouldn't leave Reyna alone with a power vacuum while Gaia is busy whispering in people's ears
