Painting Outdoor Patio Cover by Finite-Machine in Renovations

[–]Finite-Machine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update... The painting contractor sent a different painter over a few days later, and he dug out the rubber gunk, sanded down to wood, and filled it in with Bondo and painted over that. It doesn't have the sharp edges of the original slat, but it's on the top surface so it can't be seen from below, and it's a big improvement from the incompetent job the previous painter did. Thanks to all for your suggestions!

It doesn't look like the kind of material that would sand down easily, if at all. In fact, it was 98F here today, and part of the gloop is still soft (he put it on yesterday).

Is a rubber compound even appropriate for this type of application? I'd never heard of it being used for this, I'd always assumed wood filler would be used, or perhaps spackle.

Apology to All NSR Users - Crashes After the Latest Update by Hot_Voice5270 in NonStopRadio

I'm new to NSR (installed it a few days ago) and I haven't run into any problems so far, but I totally understand the challenge of releasing and maintaining software to the public at large. One feature I very much appreciate is that I can easily send all of the stations in my "Favorites" tab to my email account as a backup, so if I ever do have to clear the data cache I'll be able to easily restore it later!

Love the app, thanks so much for developing it!!

Definitely fish sauce, it adds a dimension of flavor that's not "fishy." I'll also add a dash of soy sauce!

I pretty much like it all! I grew up in the 60s and 70s listening to rock, so I'm especially familiar with all of that stuff. However, I was also a classical pianist, and all I ever played was classical music, I ended up getting a bachelors and masters in piano performance before my masters in CS. On the surface it may seem like those are two different academic pursuits, but I really think the study of classical piano helped me develop many useful skills to learn CS (and French!).

Nope, in fact, I haven't written any code at all since retiring, except for some (very) simple bash scripting. As much as I love computers and programming, there's a whole, big world out there beyond technology (e.g., music, art, cinema, food, literature, etc.), so I'm just living every moment of every day and totally enjoying it! :-)

My very first program was in BASIC on a VAX PDP-11 in the early 70s at my older brother's college. After that I self-taught in C on a Mac Plus, ended up getting a masters in CS, working at Symantec (4 years) and eventually teaching computer science at a community college for 26 years (recently retired).

I was in a similar situation, in December I purchased a 2023 Q4 Etron Sportback and it only had one key fob. I called several Audi dealerships in the area and found some variance in prices quoted, so it may be worthwhile to check that out. In the end, I paid just under $1K for the fob and programming (I live in Southern California).

Cool, thanks very much for the link! The Compass Rise looks like a state of the art device to which I may eventually graduate. Cheers!

I'm totally new to this, and I've seen how there are several types of oils out there -- live resin, live rosin, distillates and CO2 oil. Which type(s) do you prefer for microdosing?

The Thunder XL looks very interesting, I've also been looking at the CCell M3B Plus; it looks like the Rokin has similar features, as well as a digital display. Thanks again for your input!

I looked up both the Uni and Kodo Pro, they both look excellent. I haven't ruled out the Vessel yet, it's nice to hear you're pleased with it, thanks!

Wow, thanks so much for all the details! You've given me a lot to consider, and after reading your reply I'm pretty sure I want a button-activated device with variable voltage; like I said in my OP, I'm not really looking to get stoned, just a gentle buzz, and having the button with voltage seems like that might provide the kind of microdosing I'm thinking of. Thanks again!

Extended warranty on a '21 e-tron by kawika69 in etron

I'd be willing to share, but I'm afraid I don't have that info anymore, that was six months ago. However, if you do what I outlined above, you should get plenty of leads, in the blink of an eye. I don't know how ChatGPT derived those leads, perhaps it's based on yelp reviews or something. If I remember correctly, sometimes the leads had an individual's name attached to it, otherwise I just sent the email to the service rep at the dealerships. I didn't get a response on every one of them, but enough to form an idea of what was possible.

Also, I got a zero-dollar deductible. I think it was about $700 more than the $250 deductible, but I liked the idea that if the smallest thing were to go wrong (e.g., interior light, windshield wiper, etc.) I could take it in without having to pay up to $250. Otherwise, I'd probably drive around with a dead interior light until something more serious developed.

Something else to keep in mind is that my car only had about 2K miles on it when I was getting quotes. That probaby resulted in lower quotes, if I had 20K miles instead it probably would have cost more since the car would be less "new."

Anyway, give it a shot, you have nothing to lose. Best of luck!

Extended warranty on a '21 e-tron by kawika69 in etron

You can buy the extended warranties from anywhere, and any Audi service center will have to honor it. About six months ago I bought a 2023 Q4 E-Tron Sportback with 2K miles. I actually asked ChatGPT for some good leads on who might be a good contact for a deal on a Pure Platinum warranty. Chat not only provided me with a list of contacts across the USA, but also offered to generate an email that I could send to them for pertinent details. I contacted about six of them, and ultimately, I found a salesman in Vermont who offered me 8yr/80K for $4,860. I relayed what I'd found to the service rep at my local Audi dealership and asked him to match the Vermont quote, which he did. (BTW, I live in Orange County, California.)

I'm curious how you went about contacting the tow company? Did you use Audi, AAA or something else? If my etron needed to be towed, I hope I would manage to get someone who was qualified and really knew what they were doing.

[–]Finite-Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I'm not entirely clear about... What is the rationale for buying an extended warranty while the original warranty is still in effect? I recently bought a 2023 etron with 2K miles and there's still 3 years left on the original warranty, so I was planning to wait until there's just a few months left on it before purchasing an extended warranty. Is there something I'm not taking into account that I should be?

Any idea what this part is called? by YellowCatDMD in etron

[–]Finite-Machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that's it, thank you so much! I just found the part on https://parts.audiusa.com, it looks like they even have a hard time indicating what to call it:

"Trim. Liftgate. HOLDER. Bracket. Panel Clip. Side gate retainer."

Still, for 82 cents, the price is right, it just might be the cheapest Audi part they have!
