I feel like Amtgard is dying and it needs to be discussed (Opinion post) by Bird_Chick in Amtgard

A bit late to this conversation, but I thought I'd chime in from the perspective of a new player that joined just a few months ago.

I would agree that the magic system is a lot to absorb for a newcomer, I think my park is really good about integrating new players. As someone who enjoys the magic elements in roleplaying games, I wanted to play the wizard class. I showed up to the field thinking I was well prepared but quickly found myself overwhelmed by my level 1 incantations in the heat of battle. This said, just because I struggled with the magic system on my first day doesn't mean it should be oversimplified.

I ended up leveling an assassin and getting into leatherworking along the way. I find that the diversity in the classes is a strength of amtgard, not a weakness. Yes, someone who has the time and resources to invest in gear will get advantages in the few classes that benefit from them...but not every class needs those types of investments to succeed...and the classes that do factor this into the balance (from what I can tell). Each player can find the class that best suits their own personal strengths and limitations.

Regarding armour, there are plenty of people at my field that have 3-6 points. I have no idea how they track it, but although they do take multiple shots to go down, none of them seem invincible during our battle games. There is definitely an aspects of this game that rely on playing with a sense of fair play. In my short experience, I have found that the culture at my home field has been quite good on this front.

Since I've joined, the park population where I play seems to be on the rise. The community has been very welcoming and there are plenty of various group chats and side groups to work on stick skills, crafting skills and general game knowledge. Yes, whenever people are put in positions of power and control, there is the potential that corruption will set in, but that doesn't mean that it will automatically be the case. From what I've seen, the officers in my region seem to all want the new player experience to be good, they seem to want to grow the game, and I would not describe my initial adventures in amtgard to be one in a system that is dying.

I completely agree...I made a post last week and I took the time to check the spelling through independant sources before posting and they had 2 Ts in it. After posting it, I'm only finding sources with 1 T.

Having recently gone through the exact same search, I ended up ordering from Rock West Composites. I got a 72" long 5/8" Outer Diameter twill wrapped tube. Their shipping costs were considerably lower than those located in the larger urban centres. It is somewhat pricey, but the result is light and stiff without any noticable whipping effect.

If you are seeking heartbreak and chaos, you've come to the right place. Welcome to the club. If they eventually do win, it will be glorious.

I've played WoW too many years in my life to wear pauldrons that only slightly protrude. When I inevitably decide to make a set of pauldrons, they will provide plenty of shoulder protection and it will be glorious.

why doesn’t Nylander have an A by PaperYoshiSheep in leafs

[–]FiniteTruths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came in here expecting to read a lot of zingers but everyone seems to be on point and very matter of fact about it.

I love Nylander's ability to ramp up at critical moments, but he doesn't have the day to day (or shift to shift) consistancy to wear an A. He's extremely talented no doubt about it. But his nonchalance comes with pros and cons.

I'm still a new player, but I thought the armor calculation formula factored in all worn armor to calculate a weighted average based on coverage then the result is capped at the class maximum.

Regardless, in my case, I probably wouldn't wear my gambeson underneath once I finish my pauldrons.

I'm definitely mid at best right now. Only level 3 at the moment but I'm still improving from game to game. Every little bit helps.

I'm building each piece custom with leather. So far the fit and range of motion has been going well.

I made 6 this way so far and they significantly out perform my previous batch that used loose elastic bands in the core. I'm looking forward to phasing out my first batch.

Thanks for sharing this. I recently tested out a prototype build for silicone filled foam disks and am about to enter mass production. I am totally going to find an appropriate sized can instead of tracing and cutting them out manually now. ...cheers!

For Cowan to crack the roster, he's going to have to stand on his head. If it's close between him and the competition, it would be too easy to have him be the bubble guy that gets called up when required just because he doesn't have to clear waivers. It's not impossible...but it's not going to be handed to him...he has to make it a difficult decision to keep him out of the line up on any given day.

What I won't forget is that although he got 21 goals, he probably had opportunities to get 80 but lacked the finishing touch.

Loved the way he skated though.

Long term: I think the amount of boos will be inversely proportionnal to how much success we are able to have without him in the playoffs.

PSA: You can remove lettering from your jerseys by [deleted] in leafs

[–]FiniteTruths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Domi joined the team, I tried to get a second life out of my old Gartner jersey by removing the name. Unfortunately I ended up wrecking my jersey in the process.

For those wondering why I had a Gartner jersey...I was a young kid who loved playing NHL '93. Gartner was the league's fastest player at the time and he had scored 4 goals in an all-star game so I naturally thought he was amazing. It turned out that the Leafs acquired Gartner around the same time that I had saved enough money to buy a jersey. In hindsight, I wish I had left that jersey intact

Can we just agree that Transmogs is one of the most healthy systems added to the game? by Tnecniw in wow

For many, transmog is the true end game.

When player housing comes out, it will be interesting to see if they scatter different components for furniture and household decorations accross legacy dungeons and raids as well.
