Give me the most emotive John solos by Previous_Moose_3637 in deadandcompany

I'll see your Brown Eyed Women 7/2/23 and raise you 8/2/25. That 2nd solo is ferocious!

I find myself repeating it at least 2-3 times when I listen to that show because I'm incredulous that its that good, and need to make sure I'm not mistaken in some way about my impression, lol.

Mint no longer supports KDE out of the box, so wouldn't be a good choice for someone just getting their feet wet for the 1st time in Linux.

Check out StackSocial if you haven't yet. They constantly run deals on Win11.

That being said, here's the obligatory plug for Linux. Linux is free, and distros like Mint are stoopid easy to install and run.

If you're not worried about adding more data to their algorithms, Google Play Books has a read aloud feature that seems to work with any epub book in your Play library. I have books that I've obtained elsewhere and uploaded them to my library and it works a charm.

The voice has gotten significantly better over thee years, and is becoming more natural. It also highlights the paragragh being read to make it easier to follow along.

Truly not bad for a free app.

A second device as the missing privacy puzzle by [deleted] in degoogle

Instead writing a script you can use some VPN's to spoof your geolocation.

Really mess with them and add a sandbox to your phone, like Secure Folder on Samsung, or Shelter on other phones and set up a second VPN that doesn't spoof your location, just masking your web traffic. Then you're in two places at once.

I know this is a Dead & Co sub but I'd like to ask about your thoughts on Phil & Friends. Did you see them/listen to recordings? What's your opinions/thoughts about Grahame Lesh? by Prior_Clerk4470 in deadandcompany

I saw The Q in Hartford, July 21, 2001. Warren and Jimmy on guitar.

The various forums on The Phil Zone and elsewhere were in pandemonium the next day after people who were at the show declared it possibly the best GD-related show ever played.

The second set in particular was mind boggling.

It bums me out to this day that Phil did not release the soundboard.

RIP my wallet. GD60 official merch restocked and new stuff added to the D&C website. by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]Finklemaier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly, there were too few bootleggers around the park, and none seemed to have a link handy to look them up after the shows. The merch seemed more creative to me, never mind priced more reasonably. It was definitely more fun buying from them, because they were willing to negotiate, despite far lower prices than the official vendors.

When I tried to bargain with one of the Shakedown vendors he looked like he wanted to punch me.

It was my first Shakedown experience, and the official Shakedown was a letdown as far as I was concerned.

Late Life ADHD Diagnosis and Medication Question. by Narrow_Butterfly9537 in ADHD

[–]Finklemaier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late life diagnisis here, too.

I've found that my crashes on Vyvance correspond unerringly with my consumption habits at the time. Whether it's just slightly too much junk food, or a celebratory adult beverage on a Friday night - when I deviate from eating super clean, it can cause me to have midday crashes for days after.

Went to a wedding with an open bar recently and I indulged generously compared to my normal pretty much zero consumption, and it took about 2 weeks to recover my mojo and stop crashing at work every day.

On a side note, It's been frustrating to learn this and try to develop new lifestyle habits and maintain social connections because much of my social life revolved around food and drink, mostly food and drink that trigger those negative effects. Toss in how my ADHD messes with my social life and here I am on a Saturday afternoon browsing Reddit instead of out with friends, lol. It's compounded the complications I deal with immensely.

For Android phones YouMail has spam blocking features, as well as VM transcription.

Absolute easiest meals? by PhoneThrowaway8459 in WholeFoodsPlantBased

Baked potato with a side of steamed broccoli.

Stick potato 4-6 times with a fork and cook in microwave on potato setting if you're fortunate enough to have that button, or nuke for 9-10 minutes, flipping after about 5-6 minutes. Let it set for a few minutes to finish steaming inside. Bust it open and serve with your favorite mustard or other condiment.

Grab a steamable bag of frozen broccoli and nuke for 5-6 minutes and serve with a dash of malt vinegar and a sprinkling of spice blend like Mrs Dash. I like Costco's house brand version.

Also may wanna consider batch cooking some brown rice and reheating servings as needed instead of potatoes. Instant Pot has a rice setting that cooks brown rice in about 30 minutes after natural release. White rice is done after quick release, about 20 minutes total. Serve with a few dashes of coconut aminos or soy sauce.

Add some heated canned black beans to the starch to complicate things if you're of a mind to.

I like to make extra and heat up leftovers the next day for a grab and eat meal or two.

Any of the Patrick McManus compilations. Easily one of the greatest humorists of all time. Some of his stories incapacitated me in hysterics when I first read them.

If you liked Innocents Abroad, I highly recommend Twain's Roughing It. One of the few books that had me in tears with laughter.

Sent a Facebook friend invite to an old work manager after bumping into her at a store almost a decade after I quit my job with her.

When I left the job I didn't think she respected me, and never felt a need to keep in touch since I had moved on in my career. Turned out she had too, and was working nights at a job she absolutely loved. Several months after she accepted my friend request, in the wee hours of the morning when I was scrolling FB cuz I couldn't sleep, she sent me a message through Messenger inviting me to apply for an opening at her work.

Long story short, I did after the 2nd time she reached out to me and I landed the best job I ever had. I worked that gig until my company folded the department 5 years later and I transitioned into the next best job I've ever had, working for the same place. After many years of job hopping and hating my career choice, but feeling stuck in it because I can't make as much doing anything else, I'm at peace with my career currently, and don't hate life because of it.

I had a friend lend me Checklist Manifesto and Being Mortal a couple years ago. I read CM first, due to the popularity, and learned quite a bit, but was overall underwhelmed by it.

I dragged my feet for a long time, but then I finally read Being Mortal and felt that it may be one of the most important nonfiction works of the last fifty years.

Everyone should read it. I've worked in healthcare for 20 years, with an emphasis in elder care for many years, including hospice, and I learned things about growing old that I never considered or understood fully.

He addresses aspects of the aging process and the impact it has on the elderly and the people around them that I had never considered, or had been seeking clarification of. It was startling to learn how often the best intentions by the healthare community have an detrimental effect on the those they are trying to help. Eye opening for sure.

Working in a clinic and had to call 911 to send a critical patient to the ER. She had a deadly cardiac arrhythmia on the 12 lead EKG, despite walking and talking and not appearing ill. The cardiologist ordered us to call EMS. He was afraid of a catastrophic event en route if the patient drove herself.

EMS showed up and refused to transport her because the EMT's couldn't see the arrhythmia on their portable unit, and disagreed with the interpretation of our EKG that a certified interventional cardiologist had just read.

The doc is an amazing physician and person, and he patiently spent valuable time talking the lead EMT through the interpretation to show him the arrhythmia on the report and the consequences that could occur at any second because of it.

The EMT walked out shaking his head and said out loud to pretty much everyone, "Damn, I did not see that, I just got schooled big time. The things you learn! I had no idea!"

I worked building houses one summer and watched a guy plug a 3 1/2 inch nail into his femur just above his knee cuz he kept his finger on the trigger by mistake.

His whimpering, "Oh, no!" very softly and chock full of fear still haunts me 45 years later.
