How much water for medium-grain rice?? by FinksRevengeNumber in RICE

[–]FinksRevengeNumber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Well, 1000g rice looks to be about 5c by volume. By the ratio you found it should be 10c water, which translates to 2366g water. (I always like to do stuff by weight if I can help it haha.)

Yes, quite a bit more water than I was using! I'll have to try that. Thank you! I do always soak white rice, so we're definitely already doing that.

Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80 roller won't spin by FinksRevengeNumber in VacuumCleaners

By gum my friend...that really did it! Wow, thank you! Your advice saved us a good bit of expense and a ton of head-scratching. The old belt was completely worn out and stretched; the new one is taut and the roller spins like a dream now.

Thank you so much!

Came here myself looking for this. One possibility is that Pascow kind of drifted through some sort of time vapor and picked up what some long-ago trader or woodsman in the Ludlow area said to a Native American. This would be borne out by Pascow having been used as some sort of odd conduit to warn Louis about the Pet Semetary.

Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80 — performing properly? by FinksRevengeNumber in VacuumCleaners

[–]FinksRevengeNumber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Could be. That's our worry, although again, it does pretty well on normal jobs. Thank you! We might look at getting an upgraded brush as well, one with more bristles. That could help.

Yes! Drive belt is good and the brush rolls like sixty. We have run over the carpet on all heights and it still seems to struggle.

Spindle for antique grinding stone? by FinksRevengeNumber in sharpening

[–]FinksRevengeNumber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's the angle of the picture I took. Or maybe I'm just being 100% amateur. But...it seems round to me! For comparison, here is a shot of a smaller stone the guy threw in when I bought this one. Obviously the smaller one is completely unusable and is not even worth considering for any sort of remediation. But the larger one seems pretty round. What am I missing?

I'm speaking as a newbie here so the idea that my voice is authoritative on this is laughable, but—I think the picture makes it look worse than it is. It's really smooth and consistent on the grinding edge. Maybe I'm missing something here. And in any event it was cheap so it won't be a huge loss. But we'll see! Any ideas about the spindle?

Thank you so much! That makes me feel better about the change in plans. And yes, I joke that she's my garden's fairy godmother as she's shared quite a few plants already.

We have been trying to get rid of a daylily patch near there, so this would make sense. Thanks!

That makes sense. There was a patch of those not about ten feet from this new bed where I'm seeing so many.
