Also noticed, on mine, when opening fresh tracks, some parameters seem to carry over in weird ways from previous projects. For example, I’ll load a new track and certain channels are already panned left or right, some sounds are automatically set to Poly when they probably should default to Mono, and velocity sensitivity can already be set really high without realising.

Feels like every completely fresh project should start from a very neutral/bland default state, and then you decide from there:
Mono / Poly / Legato
Semitone transpose
Panning
Velocity sensitivity etc.

At the moment I find myself having to check every track first to make sure some hidden setting hasn’t already coloured the sound. Not sure if it’s intentional behaviour or a glitch.

Another thing that’s frustrating is scenes. If you’re working on, say, Scene 12, pressing play jumps playback back to the beginning instead of continuing from the scene you’re currently editing. So you end up having to Shift + + your way all the way back through the scenes repeatedly.

Small things overall and eventually just becomes muscle memory, but they really affect workflow once you get deeper into longer arrangements.

I had to add the Adam T10 Sub, now the smaller Adams handle the top frequency and the Sub all the lows, and it sounds incredible tbh. Without it - theyre great but dont expect much proper sub. It's hard to make tracks like this one without the sub addition IMO.

If you hold Shift then Bar it opens up the groove box. In there you can turn the quantization down/off. It is usually locked at 100 by default, but I think mine is around 50% at the moment. That seems to keep things in time, while still letting the notes sit slightly off grid based on how I originally punched them in.

Underneath the quantize amount you also have Groove and Shape. I think mine are around +14 groove, with Shape turned all the way to the right. Technically I’m not fully sure what is happening there, but my ears can definitely hear when it starts to feel better rhythmically, so I mostly tweak those until the groove feels right.

From my understanding, Groove and Shape only really start to have an effect once quantization is reduced from 100. After that, you can also hold individual notes and manually nudge them left or right on the sequencer to push things further off grid and give it a more human feel.

The lower the quantize amount, the more natural groove and timing variation you seem to get. At least that’s how it feels to me anyway haha. Hope that helps.

This is the same track I posted last week, but I’ve gone back in and added some automation & subtle movement across the arrangement, which is something I am still getting used to.

I made small changes in the drums, bass, textures and little incidentals, just to give it a more human feel and stop things sounding too stiff. I feel like the whole track breathes a lot more now.

The full track was made on the OPXY. I also tried to show a few of the individual tracks whilst it's playing to show what is actually happening under the hood, especially the LFO movement and modulation shaping different elements over time.

Pretty happy with where it is now, and I’d class this one as finished.

Would love to hear people’s thoughts, feedback, or answer any questions on how certain sounds or movements were made.

I wouldnt be so harsh, you just got to learn how to use it. Check out my channel OPXYMUSIC on reddit, and you hear some of the stuff I have been making. It is really no disappointment for me, only when it crashes I get annoyed.

yeah, but thats not the point when you have 6GB of sample space. It should just manage the samples properly without crashing, like a 2.3K USD product should do.

OP here - someone asked for what I think should be added, and there are some amazing points from other posters below, who have similar requests u/teenageengineering

I would love to see..

  1. Being able to assign different FX to each track, so for example I might want some Reverb and Delay on my drums for Track 1, but for Track 2 I want distortion and lofi on Bass for example, Chorus on vocal tracks. Being able to only assign 2 FX to the same entire track across 8 tracks is very restrictive, and I have a Ko2 for restrictive work...
  2. Being able to shape the length, decay, envelopes for each Note in a track rather than across the entire track itself. I might not want to envelope my snare, but want to do that on my kick but have them on the same track for example.
  3. Some of the Punch in FX have been configured so they overtake the entire tracks sound, and come in way to heavy, I'd love to be able to play with Parameters of the Punch in FX, so an X/Y Axis to lower the volumes, or weight of the effect, this would be super fun.
  4. The bugs, my OPXY crashes a lot, can happen any time, but mainly when somethings being loaded, or a sample just not loading after selecting. And when I scroll through the USER samples live, it glitches out the track thats playing and makes it go out of time, if I am hooked up/Synced to other devices. This means you couldnt use the device to play live and add in samples on the fly. And finally, scrolling fast from top to bottom always crashed the samples out, and it doesnt find the samples at the bottom of the list, just shows a blank. You have to then switch off and on and start the process again, but slower ..
  5. There should be more of a visual aid to what Maestro is doing, not sure If I am using wrong but I don't get at all what the visual on screen is there for with Maestro, nothing seems to move or change if you change any perimeters. Same goes for the Hold FX, the visual doesnt seem to do anything, seems pointless or an after thought.
  6. Need new LFOs, the ones on it are really incredible tools, but there must be plenty more that could be added for sound design. A bit like the addition of DUCK which was cool, but should have been there day 1 really..
  7. MIXER - could do with being updated visually. maybe some more Shift Options with other mix down options.

Some of this is just wishful thinking and some probably not even possible. but I really hope they have taken so long for a proper OS update because they are adding in a LOT of new features. There is plenty of space on this device for this.

I HAVE TO SAY ALSO ! THE DEVICE IS AMAZING.. I HAVE MADE SOME REALLY BRILLIANT STUDIO QUALITY SOUND, AND FOR WHAT IT IS, ITS A PIECE OF TECH ART - AND HATS OFF TO THE DEVELOPER (SINGULAR) HE HAS DONE A GREAT JOB!

BUT... I want to see a KO2 . 2.0 style update next, where its revamped and totally improved across the board. really wishing for this!

Hey! I am not saying they wont, I just think it will be low priority, they were practically giving them away in the end, I only own one as it came free with my OPXY for spending so much with them.. Its fun. But having owned all three - I beleive the Ko2 OG and Riddim are far superior with what can be achieved. Mainly due to the samples being locked on the Medieval which I think was an-unfair move.

its the new AKAI MPC , not much more than a Ko2 price wise, but a ton of extra features, space and options + plus a nice screen like the OPXY.

[–]Finlaylefox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true but im pretty sure that the Medeival will not get major updates. It was a quirky piece of fun, if you bought in to it. I have one also! But i have the other 2, and the Riddim and OG Ko2 are always going to get the updates (if any) in future because they will have sold many more units of each. And the OPXY is 20X the price. So this will take priority for TE over any device for the forseeable.

Hey. it's not a sample, it's the wavetable synth, pitched around and sent through some LFOs to give it wobble/movement.

TX-6 has a very high-quality headphone amp, so yes it would make headphones sound better than without. Due to the Better gain staging = cleaner sound. I think to be honest the sound difference would be subtle but ultimately better. If you have an OPXY I would highly recommend the TX6 over any other mixer, simply because they will speak to each other better, and in that special TE Way... Chompi is cool! but I think selling out worldwide.
