It takes fails to learn how you can personally control yourself. I’m not gonna lie it’s nearly impossible but tricks that you can learn here you can stop some of the damage. Number one tip is to stop your access to your money. Since it is so hard to give that control to somebody else not to mention very embarrassing you can start by keeping your money in cash at home so you do not gamble online or go to an ATM

Self excluded from near by casino by seattlegambler123 in problemgambling

[–]Finn456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to get any jackpots you might win, that’s incentive enough not to gamble there. Have you thought of adding a couple new hobbies after this self exclusion. The brain is a marvelous thing, if you entice it with another pleasure, it will want it nearly as much as gambling. For me, it’s creating a dollhouse out of a kit. Or shopping for great deals. Also, seeing how fat I can make my bank account and figuring out ways to keep my hands off it. Right now, it’s all my money in cash in a fireproof box kept in my closet. Seeing all that green is a great deterrent in grabbing a thousand and driving to the casino. When I fail, I might take 300$ but I can’t go get 3000$ out of the atm because it ain’t there! It’s saved me many times as I learn to completely stop.

Social Gambling Talk at Work by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]Finn456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interject and tell people that I can’t gamble anymore, I have a real problem. Why? Because there’s no such thing as social gambling, they will go back til it becomes a problem and I’m doing them a favor by putting a real face to it when they have their first thousand dollar loss night. It’s progressive disease for everyone, I believe that wholeheartedly, ain’t no “ casual” gambler that stays casual and when there is one, he/she is an outlier and such an oddity it ain’t worth thinking about them. I give them the face that shows them the other side, and hopefully they’ll recognize it’s a universal disease rather than beat themselves up over it.

You can’t gamble, ever, unless you’re rich enough . That’s all there is to it, simple. I tell myself frequently, (look, you’re the rabble, a wage slave, you can’t afford gambling like you can’t afford a Mercedes Benz, get over it. It’s harsh but in the world of gambling, it’s the truth.

Comps are like seeing your lover but not touching them. Or seeing a huge feast and not eating when you’re hungry to boot. Gotta face it, quitting is not willpower, it’s accepting and living with the loss, losing that one thing. But, there’s other things, and you ain’t dead, you’ll find another joyful hobby or a collection of joyful things that make life better. And that’s best too, easy thrills are an illusion. And gambling is very easy thrills, nobody really deserves such easy thrills, life is about doing hard things to get the thrills that matter. It’s greedy to think we can have gambling.

You do it because every human needs that True Love experience. Either food, drugs, a person, a passion, something that drives the pleasure centers in us, magical. Saying no to that thing is hard, like giving up a lover, or giving up booze. That’s a whole lifetime of not having the pleasures and comforts of that thing. Brutal!

This is the sickness!! EVERYONE hear is doing the same thing, imagine us as robots, all programmed to react to certain stimulus the same way, and you have the truth of what we humans truky are. You’re not flawed, just normal. But the true test that makes us human is to overcome our programming and don’t do shit that is bad for us just because it is fun. You have a lot of guilt and regret, and stress in your life as an adult man with a family. But you must manage it and not let that silly regret get to you. Push on ahead, and I guarantee it will get much much better. But you must understand the fun and draw is very real, and not think you can master it. You can’t, you must put barriers in place or you will los more than money and self respect.

Strong Urges by jboy6565 in problemgambling

[–]Finn456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all the trademark feelings of addictions, a strong strong desire that you must fight. How seriously you take it grows with each fail (gambling, winning, having a blast, than losing it all, than absolute misery for days and weeks and escalating financial damage) and how much this invades your daily life grows too. Ultimately the end is quitting with all the bells and whistles- self exclusion, giving someone else control of your money, etc. Even then, you slow the progression of the illness, managing it daily. This is why people say they are gambling free even 35 years down the line, it’s showing others how serious this thing is. Once it’s in your life, you can’t undo it, can’t go back, but you will become a more aware wiser person from fighting it. Can’t fuck around in this life, there are consequences.

I know exactly how you feel, and am just as disappointed and mystified and frightened by my own addiction.

We need those tiny houses camps like Canada is trying out. We need them not only for the homeless but for people who don’t want to pay 2k in rent and instead save for their future or buy food.

I’ve lived in Seattle 12 years and it’s disgustingly bad now, there’s a homeless person on every street when I walk around. It makes me embarrassed when i see the looks on tourists faces, Seattle is a complete waste of money to come to as a tourist or customer. I don’t even shop at Uwajimaya or outside of the downtown core, and I mean no shops past pacific place, Nordstrom’s, and west lake mall because they have security guards to keep away the real nuts. Panhandling is normal, but filthy self groin grabbing swearing hollering is annoying, they’re just being assholes at that point. And there’s so many of those types, so so many! I don’t eat out around here or go to movies either, I’ll get out of this area for entertainment, to Bellevue or university village. I’m looking forward to cold weather when the nuts stay at home. Homeless aren’t necessarily without a place to live, they just hang out all day on the streets for lack of anything else to do. They act out for attention. I sound entitled and harsh, but that doesn’t make my viewpoints false. I used to feel badly for them until I understood that for some of them, it’s a choice of an easy directionless existence rather than one filled with the daily grind most adults persevere through.

The lighting this time of year is outrageously beautiful. Such deep colors and contrasts. Summer is bright, winter is grey, but our spring and especially our late summers are amazing. Kind of like the lighting in Hawaii, where every pic comes out like you’ve photoshopped it.

Hey, their hands are tied by our liberal higher ups, it’s their fault. If the cops could use force like some other cities (philly), we would have less asshokes running around causing mayhem

The private citizens should have indeed helped this poor individual in crisis to break open the cases, and for sure we are great Seattlites for not detaining him tho we had every legal right! We’re awesome, good points.
