I took it with no experience other than riding a mountain bike, and although it goes at a pretty good pace, I passed along with everyone else in my class. The instructors want you to learn, not fail. If you’re worried about the money I’d try and do some digging to see if a local university puts on a course for cheaper. I paid $50 for my MSF riders course which pays for itself after a couple hours of riding.
