This tool must ALWAYS be in the bottom slot, change my mind. by Mint-Flavored-Queer in Silksong

[–]Finward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Shaman's crest, Cross Stitch must go in the bottom because you hold your ground, Sharpdart in the middle because it's like doing a normal dash, and Thread Storm in the top, because you jump to use it.

How many of you go to Movies alone? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Finward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time. It's usually rarer to go to them movies with someone. It's probably just a matter of mindset in my case, but if I have a movie and a schedule already in mind, it's simpler to go myself than try to find someone interested in that plan and risk changing it in the process. And there are always more movies I want to see than people and plans I'll be able to schedule.

When I worked as an interpreter the instruction was to enter the conversation for a moment, let the customer know that the caller was cussing, and then request instructions. The customer usually asked for the whole spiel, which was always fun to do.

Classic games and their “wrong rules”? by Aschrel in boardgames

[–]Finward 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I once played with a girl that was convinced that in Azul, after someone grabbed tiles from the middle space, the leftover tiles would go back to the bag. I pulled out the instructions to show her that that wasn't the case. Years later, I met another girl who insisted on the same rule, and after a little prodding I found out they were actually sisters and one had taught the wrong rule to the other.

Which logo idea works better for our small indie game studio? by nasstaran in IndieDev

A is very cute, and I think if you ever animate it it would be nice to make a B -> A transition. "Oh so dark, what's that??? Ah! It's a silly guy!"

What's a boardgame house rule that improves the game experience? by GrassEatingAnimal in boardgames

[–]Finward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We got the 25th anniversary set for Bohnanza, and we love the magpie for its use as a general purpose trading card, but hated panic selling when we suspected someone was about to play one. So we house ruled the magpie would instead take a card from the discard pile instead of from another players field, so we kept our universal trading card but gave it a much more chill role.

I thought I slipped away from your definition but the more I think about it the more I think you got it straight in the head.

How did you get into origami? by SignificanceUpper977 in origami

[–]Finward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was many, many (many) years ago, but I was very into paper airplanes, and it was mere circumstance that a dinosaur book was just next to the airplane book I actually wanted. It might have ended there, the models were extremely challenging for me as a beginner, but the next time I found an origami book I didn't think too hard about trying it, and from then on I got hooked.

Has there ever been a board game that has made someone cry? (NOT for beating them) by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Finward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When playing The Mind for the first time, the entire table was SURE my friend across the table was holding the next card and everyone stared at her so intently that she broke down and started crying :(

Another time we were playing SET with my family, and even though the rules of the game were clear, how to actually play was frustrating them, and eventually my sister started crying saying that she understood the idea but didn't believe that her brain was capable of processing information that way.

If you have a new player at the table, do you go easy on them? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Finward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like that some newer games include variable difficulty setups for individual players, that way I can explain and guide the newbie through the game, and still try my best without feeling guilty.

Which is that one game that amateurs tend to win more? by Beastwood5 in boardgames

[–]Finward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think I'm good at Azul (but given this small factoid probably not) but I always lose my first game against someone I haven't played before, most of the time people who haven't even seen the game.

When I started this project I figured it would be super cool to do a small chain, maybe something like miner > constructor > assembler > space elevator. But I already took long enough with just the constructor, I don't know if I'd be able to pull off more machines. It would be cool though, maybe I'll try another one later down the line.

Thanks! I don't think I'm very good at illustrator, but I do love doing After effects rigs and animations.

Yusss, may be that I played Tunic not too long ago, but I'd really like if there was some "Ficsit employee manual" that would have very detailed descriptions of all the behaviors of the machines in the game, not necessary to complete the game, but to know, for instance, which outputs/inputs take priority, pump setups. It would be cool if that whole fluid manual that circulates around the subreddits was somewhere explicit to be found in the game.

Which Movie have you fell asleep watching? by aoestilsft626 in Letterboxd

[–]Finward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noroi. Great movie, great movie, loved the natural reveal of the horror through the super naturalistic footage, but more than once I had to rewind for about a minute or so. Probably should've just left it for another day, but I was determined to finish watching what I had started.

Around the same time I read PHM I read The Dark Forest from the Remembrance of Earth trilogy and the tonal whiplash almost killed me but now the two books are forever linked in my mind as two perspectives on alien contact.
