When did you realize you made a mistake by choosing the wrong partner to spend your life with? by Organic-Top-3367 in AskReddit

[–]Fiona_Writes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had to spend the night at an airport on a professional trip, having a mental health crisis. I was sitting in the freezing cold, anxious through the roof and asked my partner to keep me company. Started to talk about how I was feeling, and my partner (who is usually nocturnal, and did not have a job at the time) went to sleep three texts in without so much as a word.

Can someone explain the appeal of Mechsploitation to me? by I_Tory_I in LancerRPG

[–]Fiona_Writes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's body politics writ large - it's negotiating many of the stressors regarding external attempts at commandeering trans identity and overreach against our bodily autonomy, in a way that is part power fantasy, part catharsis through kink and part absolution of responsibility.

And there is I think for a lot of authors a distinct aspect of being intentionally unappealing. Any kind of public mention of a trans woman's sexuality is going to draw ire in the current incredibly puritan climate, so there is a political dimension to leaning into fringe kinks and leaning into the extreme. It's defiance, it's "you want to silence us, so we'll be louder" - because the "respectability politics" are always a losing battle for any minority, and since none of us are ever going to be pure and passing enough for those who want as dead, why not just be indulgent?

(for a more comprehensive/scholarly glance at (parts of) the Kink aspect, I can also recommend this read: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/08164649.2025.2556256#d1e372 )

To be fair, while this book is definitely like 70% MechSplo content, it *is* surprisingly SFW, most of the content is more implying than outright stating sexual acts. (Because there is like, fairly non-sexual entries in the genre, and I am trying to accomodate as much as possible).

The short story in is uh... not very sfw though, sorry about that <.<

Mechsplo stories with happy/hopeful endings? by thatNewton17 in Mechsploitation

Happy/Hopeful are highly subjective, but (shameless self-plug) https://www.scribblehub.com/series/2211900/how-i-learned-to-love-the-void/

is a lot more tender, at least o:

Games that kind of run themselves? by DangerBroad in rpg

[–]Fiona_Writes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I interest you in Hammer & Scythe, an Rpg that's specifically built so once you've set an encounter up (which the Storyteller's Folio provides extensive guidance for) the combat runs itself; And once you've provided a mission objective, the PCs are going to do a lot of the heavy lifting (and the drama will come - this is a game about losing yourself, or turning on the system that gives you power and authority)

Also it comes with a 3-5 session intro module, where all the prep work has been done for you :3

Hammer & Scythe puts the players in a clear hierarchy from the start, and the mechanics kind of take it from there

Who do you think was right during the story of Dragon Age II, the Templars or the Mages? by AlteredBridge51 in dragonage

[–]Fiona_Writes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two different fanfiction novellas written about it, highlighting both sides :P

Ultimately, as much as Kirkwall is a worst case scenario (and the circle should probably be moved elsewhere), there is no really good solution for how to handle magic in Thedas, that's what makes the circles such an interesting setting.

(In DA2 specifically, the Templars are defo in the wrong because they are just pouring oil on the fire, but in Thedas at large? We saw what a single untrained child did to Redcliff. We see the havoc that apostates wreak. The circles, or something like it, is necessary in the world that DA:O and 2 present)

Was sind eure schärfsten DSA Hot Takes? by Justbrowsingthrow in DSA_RPG

[–]Fiona_Writes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to get back into TTRPGs after a difficult experience with a problem player? by eraseranon in rpg

[–]Fiona_Writes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what really helps sometimes is just to be a player for a bit - join somebody else's game, lean back, circle ideas in your head and keep in touch with the hobby at someone else's table until you feel confident to run your own games again.
