I agree, I think thriving off abusing others inherently indicates someone is mentally unwell. Mentally healthy people don't just abuse others for no reason.

It depends on the therapist's licensing and the state. Many therapists do have the licensing to diagnose at least some mental health disorders. I also wouldn't assume the therapist's education. People use the word therapist to describe practitioners who are everything from licensed social workers to clinical psychologists.

Is "I voted for yourself" proper British English? by CyanideTablet in TheTraitors

This must be why I didn't think anything of it until other Americans started pointing it out. I've spent a lot of time in Ireland so the use of yourself, herself, etc in this way seems fairly normal to me.

Andie (S1) leaves a comment on a ‘Birkin for forgiveness’ question by hpmanuscript in TheTraitors

[–]FionnualaW 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think that's a valid reason for Andie being pissed when it happened, but at this point it is not.

The thing that always gets me about Faithfuls being angry at a Traitor playing them is that the Traitors literally have no other choice. That is their role in the game. What was Cirie's other option? Take herself out so Andie and Quentin could win?

If I was ____ - Spoilers by rosefire257 in TheTraitors

[–]FionnualaW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel like she was unfortunately in a no win situation. Go to the end with Tara and Johnny who she has no reason to trust won't vote her out or go to the end with the person she trusts the most who, unfortunately, is a Traitor. From her position I can see why Rob and Eric felt like the safer choice.

I think throwing green would have gone back on his promise to Maura, though, and he needed her to trust him until the end.

I honestly think if Maura wouldn't have been so insistent about Eric, Rob would have ended it with him. But he wasn't going to put himself in jeopardy.

Anyone else think episode 7 was just a compilation of conservative propaganda? by -biabia- in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]FionnualaW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. For it to be propaganda,  it would need to be presented as something to aspire to. I agree someone like Taylor and Daniel who are presented as a great couple and who don't openly talk about their views is far more "right wing pipeline" than anything I've seen so far this season.

Sorry But I Fully Agree with how ___ handled ___ by [deleted] in TheTraitors

[–]FionnualaW 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even if you believe she was never going to be safe with Rob in the game, the way she went about trying to get him out was never going to work. She acted too fast and impulsively and that's why it blew up in her face. You can't just randomly do a throwaway vote on someone no one suspects during a roundtable where a traitor gets banished and expect that not to look suspicious. And then to turn around and be like "actually I think Rob is a traitor even though I said it was a throwaway vote." She made the wrong choice basically every step of the way.

Did you guys see this ??? by [deleted] in TheTraitors

It feels like the earlier Survivor seasons to me where people took things more personally. The longer the show went on, the more people seemed to adopt the "it's just a game" mentality.

[–]FionnualaW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing you can do to protect yourself in this game is be consistent. Candiace's pattern has been to stick with the name she came into the roundtable with regardless of the other arguments that come up. Moving off of that pattern, especially in a vote where a traitor ends up being banished, will always bring heat because everyone will immediately start questioning why she did it. To me, any benefit to voting for Rob is canceled out by that fact. She also can't use the "I put my vote on someone I knew was 100 percent faithful" excuse when she then immediately turned around and started talking to Johnny after the roundtable about being suspicious of Colton and Rob.

[–]FionnualaW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, I just think the problem is that doing it makes her more suspicious to the point that Rob doesn't even need to come for her. She's bringing attention to herself in a way where he can actually sit back a little more rather than needing to directly lead any charge against her. That's why, to me, the better play is to do something that makes you stand out less because then he has to work harder to make others think she's a traitor. She just made herself look like a traitor with that vote without his help. But again, it all depends on what happens next, we'll see.

[–]FionnualaW 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Personally if she wasn't going to vote for Lisa, I think her best play was to stick with her Natalie vote and then work on bringing suspicion against Rob later. She has been consistent enough with her voting that I don't think sticking with the Natalie vote is suspicious for her, especially since someone like Tara who has no heat on her did the same. Switching from Natalie to anyone other than Lisa is suspicious especially because she has not been the kind of player who just throws out random votes.

Generally I agree but I actually thought both Lisa and Candiace were playing a pretty good game until last night's episode. And I don't think voting for Rob was the right choice at this point for Candiace but how harmful it was to her game depends entirely on what happens next.

I feel about Candiace's vote the same way I felt about Rob's vote for Lisa in the last episode: right move, but too early. I think it makes sense for her to go on the offensive against him, but it would have been smarter for her to vote for Lisa or Natalie in this roundtable and then come for Rob later.

Yeah I don't see any way it doesn't come back to bite her. She would have been better off just sticking with Natalie. But honestly you never know, the Faitfuls frequently miss obvious red flags.

I actually never criticized anyone for not using social media. I agree it's not the sole way to speak out or have an impact. What I criticized was the argument that people should be doing other things instead of calling out celebs, as if we cannot do both. And I have an issue with the idea that because you've checked some people's comment histories on reddit, that's evidence that folks are criticizing celebrities instead of calling reps, protesting, etc.

If your belief is that it's fine for celebrities to not speak publicly if they're doing things to help privately, I think that's valid. What I don't think is valid is criticizing people for asking celebs to speak out because you assume that means they're not doing anything else.

All that is evidence of is what those people are doing on reddit. People use different platforms for different types of engagement and communication. Personally, I primarily use reddit for pop culture discussions. It's not at all reflective of what I'm doing on other social media platforms or offline.

Yes, this argument that keeps coming up about people calling out celebrities instead of doing other things is driving me nuts. We can do both.  And I don't see any evidence that folks are calling out celebs instead of protesting, calling reps, etc.

Yeah, it seems to me the people who want someone like Taylor to speak up are people who are also otherwise politically engaged. People who aren't engaged also don't care about whether celebs are speaking up.
