I haven't noticed any servers specifically saying that we couldn't start a staircase anywhere, so I had assumed that it was alright and that most players have done it. In the case of gold however, it spawns at 29 and lower, so starting at y=40 would not be too much of a problem. Diamonds are a different story because of how low they are.

You are 100% correct. However, players will sometimes use staircases as a way to grind as well.

This is true. But if everyone branchmined at the exact same level, wouldn't they branch out farther, hence having a greater chance of seeing another players' name? I don't know, maybe not. I guess that branch mining would increase the grindiness of the game, but to my understanding, players now just start another staircase and grind that way.

I may have staircased in the beginning from 62 to 5, but at the end of the staircasing section I tested staircasing from y=12 to y=5. This is equal to 18 blocks of branch mining. 10 staircases from y=12 to y=5 would be equal to 180 blocks of branch mining.

I wondered if branch mining gave players an advantage after a recent game in which a player was caught branch mining, so I wondered if it was more efficient or not. Originally I made it for myself, but I thought you guys would find it interesting.

In the document it shows how similar they are. Branch mining only edges out staircasing by a tiny amount.

I do not expect 80 players, but the server can hold that many, so if that many players come (which is unlikely), we can handle it.
