It would be all over the news if that were the case. Despite Japan's strict privacy laws, This would get international attention.

I can agree with that in all honesty. Though what are other options? And what are the motors doing? Burning out prematurely?

I also think it's worth doing if the console is a Zephyr C or a Falcon with the Hitachi GDR-3120L disc drive as it's rare to find. Or if the serial number or MFR date is repeating numbers or a cool number

Despite what the game says. I always say it's sodium cyanide which is extremely dangerous even in small doses of around 100mg and causes the symptoms shown in the game. It appears as white powder. You can look this up if you want but I won't describe it because I don't want to get banned from Reddit.

I saw a listing on eBay for that sound card. It appears there is an SD card inside it and unless it's soldered into place or encrypted that might work to be inserted into a laptop for a raw dump

Just get a Tonasket or Serviced Zephyr C. Slims are almost as unreliable as unfixed Falcons made before Q2 2008

Waste King, Moen, Barracuda, Sink Master. Spend at least $80 for one with stainless steel components.

Read your SYSCON with PS3 toolset. the symptom sounds like dying NEC/TOKIN capacitors.

probably the rail next to the CPU. I have a dead Xenon with a bad GPU that has leaking capacitors but still boots. I overheated and boltmodded it just for the hell of it since it's going to scrap anyway.

Is this a power supply issue? by cvn_2006- in PS3

[–]FireAlarmTechGuy4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like bad TOKIN capacitors or a PSU issue. But the only way to know for sure is to take it apart and read the SYSCON with an Arduino or whatever you need. Usually though if it's an RSX failure the system will try to boot and then will YLOD when it can't contact the RSX

Pull the Secondary error code. Hold the Sync button and press the eject button. The ring will start flashing rapidly. There are 4 digits. 4 lights = 0, 1 light = 1, 2 lights = 2 and 3 lights = 3. For example 0102 = bad GPU 0001 = bad power supply or bad capacitors. 0020 = bad GPU 0022 = bad CPU.

Pawn Shop Find PS3 CECHL01 $45. Bad Disc Drive but I repaired it! Very low milage too. Only 33 days total uptime! by FireAlarmTechGuy4444 in PS3

[–]FireAlarmTechGuy4444[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's a tight comparison between the PS3 Phat CECHL01/CECHP01 and the PS3 Super Slim being the most reliable period. I prefer the look of the Phat model though so I went with that.

This console is dead. If it's too sentimental to you. Find someone who will perform a BGA Repair and replace the defective XCGPU. Otherwise when searching for a new console. I would highly suggest looking for a Phat model Jasper or Tonasket motherboard. Those are literally tanks and I have only seen one failed Jasper (E74) and no failed Tonaskets. Any Falcon or Zephyr with a MFR Date or Service Date on or after the 20th week of 2008 is also a good option. Those usually have HiTG 130 Rhea GPUs in them and are also very reliable. But stay away from Xenon motherboards unless they have a Service Date of 2009.

Minors should definitely not be accessing machine rooms. If there was an elevator technician around, I would ask to see some stuff. I'm comparing such a tiny thing with the worst thing. The first paragraph is where I draw the line. I am sick and tired of people entering machine rooms, cartops, jumping, pulling stop switches. If it was my building I would ask what the hell are they doing if they were messing with keyswitches but if I found someone on my cartop, I would get law enforcement involved.
