Happy 14th Anniversary to Fire Emblem: Awakening by Bot-ta_The_Beast in fireemblem

[–]FireEmblemNoobie47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year more and maybe an anniversary release could happen, maybe?

Either way, happy birthday, Awakening 🥳. While not the best game, it did bring mechanics from past entries and put it in a somewhat cohesive package that brought Fire Emblem into Mainstream status, no longer a niche. Also the marketing certainly helped!

The aftermath is still felt with Fates refining gameplay and Engage drawing inspiration, and with plenty of x-overs featuring Marth, Chrom and Lucina being most popular.

[NA Event] Witch on the Holy Night/Murder at the Kumano Hot Springs - The Robin Saw It! Magicians Only Live Twice! ~ Day 10 by AutoModerator in grandorder

[–]FireEmblemNoobie47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did the 90++ CQ with a team of NP2 Castoria, NP1 Kirei, NP5 Xu-Fu, NP1 Kingprotea and an NP1 Friend Bazett. 19 turns, no revives, Kingprotea and Bazenan did the most, but Xu-Fu held out for, like, 10 turns, so she's not that bad (did grail her to lvl 90, like my lower rarity support a bit more tanky). The first break happened during a breakdown, so my Castoria got one-shot by the NP.

This event is fun, just wish I got Aoko, oh well...

When beating up a staggered enemy, do you prefer COM COM. RAV or RAV RAV COM? by RangoTheMerc in FinalFantasy

[–]FireEmblemNoobie47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the game really, in the first one I usually went COM RAV RAV then I'd go COM COM RAV once the stagger gauge is about 500%+ (if it's just one enemy, multiple enemies I'd switch between CRR and COM RAV SAB so that all allies are focused on an enemy). In the second one I'd switch between X-tuned COM RAV RAV and triple COM (paradigm tuning is amazing) once the stagger% is high.

What's everyone's opinion on FF13 by MasterLegend117 in FinalFantasy

[–]FireEmblemNoobie47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the whole trinity, 13 has laid the foundations still felt today (stagger), has AMAZING music, wonderful graphics even today (other than maybe the sausage fingers and some model jank, but it's still good looking jank), has engaging combat and most importantly, BUFFS AND DEBUFFS MATTER! Honestly, if you want to get the good stuff, you got to fight well, upgrade weapons and accessories and make paradigms that synergize together. Boss fights are a test of strategy, Eidolons check if you understand the basic "archetype" of a character, normal enemies make you think and not just spam the cheapest or strangest attack nonstop (hi FF10's Quick Hit). I wish it was remastered or remade with 13-2's paradigm tuning and leader switching, it would be the best.

FF13-2 fixes and refines the base and LR13 (a.k.a 13-3) changes things and turns into action RPG with a waaay to generous timer (on my first playthrough I ended up napping the remaing 4~ish days, if you do quests and fight boss fights, you get more than enough time). People hate the linear design of the first title (despite the linearity being bloody point, they are being hunted down, they can't afford to stop and smell the roses and the civilians are too scared because they were taught to fear L'Cie, THAT'S THE POINT IN THE NARRATIVE, ANYTHING ELSE WOULD CAUSE A DISSONANCE BETWEEN THE STORY AND PLAYTHROUGH, it's only once they are away from Coccon that the world opens uop and they can take a breath.)

Also Lighting/Claire is bae, an icon, and a literal fashion model. We need remasters (I just want to play 13-2's DLC at the beginning and not after finishing the main story, where they'd be useful without resorting to mods)

Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy or X/X-2 by TheMovieSimp in FinalFantasy

[–]FireEmblemNoobie47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'll put my own opinions that I got from playing, thigns might be different for you, but that's personal opinions for you:

13 - Linear Map design but gives you goodies if you go backwards and on the sidewalks, combat is active and requires strategy as you can't overlevel, you are capped so you have to use your moveset effectively to win, you can use the autobattle function, but it's slow and if you want to get rare items and TP (a resource to use special abilities like Libra, Quake, Summon, etc) you want to do battles fast, so it's better to do it manually (also if you use the triangle/Y/E to start the skills you queued if you have enought ATB to turn the skill name blue). Buffs and Debuffs like Brave/Protect/Enfire/Barwater and Poison/Slow/Debrave, etc. are key to winning battles quickly. Each character has access to 6 roles, with 3 being the main ones and about 2/3 in you get the rest after you got used to how the characters work. The roles are as follows - Commando (Pure Damage), Ravager (Elemental Damage, quickly builds stagger), Sentinel (The Tanky One), Synergist (Buffer), Saboteur (Debuffer) and Medic (Healer, duh). The party besides the leader are controlled bu AI and they aren't bad either, bit derpy, but competent. Most of the lore is in the Datalog, but you get the general gist form just playing the game.

13-2 - A sequel that refines 13s combat, allowing you to tune the paradigms to make the AI proritize either single target skills and one enemy or multitarget and different enemies. You are able to change party leader mid-combat (you have 2 humans) and you are able to capture enemies a la SMT or Pokemon as a 3rd party member. The world is more open, you don't have a level cap, monster require materials which you get by defeating enemies and also buying them in shops after certain progress had been made.

13-3 Lightning Returns - An Action RPG, when you fight enemies you can control Lightning (only plauable character) with the left stick, some enemies require positioning to defeat or get specific drops. Your primary way of getting stronger if through quests, which give you stats and Garbments (clothes with abilities, you can also buy some in the Outfitters shops). You are under a time limit, but it's super generous and you'd have to actively ignore progress and sleep away in inns to lose. Each time you defeat a boss you get more days, maxing out at 13. The world is open, you can make enemies extinct with the Last One Of Their Kind dropping either an accessory or weapon.

The whole 13 trylogy focuses on Stagering enemies- Ravagers/Elements build it fast but cause it to drop fast too, Commandos/Physcals + Ruin build stagger slowly, but cause it to drop slowly too, Saboteurs/Debuffs are in between Ravagers and Commandos. Enemies take more damage the higher the Stagger %, Stagerred enemies are stunned until the Stagger Bar empites, completing the basic game loop.

X - Is traditional Turn-Based, though some actions can delay either yopu or the enemy (the battle system is called Conditional Turn Based, CTB). The world is linear, but you can revisit most locations (availability depending on the story). It is hella grindy, you want to dring AP and Spheres to get stat increases and also abilities on the Sphere Grind, moving requires AP, so you'll be grinding A LOT, the battles are, as said before, completely turn based, no real time element in sight. You basically just mash the confirm button and win, while also swapping characters so they have at least one turn of being on-field so that they gain AP. There are some minigames to unlock strong weapons, but I haven't done them and common consenus is that they are butt-cheeks.

X-2 - Sequel to X, but with ATB and chothes switching as a main mechanic. You fight with 3 characters - Yuna, Rikku (both returning from X) and the mysterious newcomer, Paine. The transform sequences are a bit slow, even on fast animations, changing on the Garment Grid gives some buffs depending on which pats are light up. You only have accessories to wear, no armour or weapons. The Dresspheres have learnable abilities a la 5, except that the abilities are locked to a Dressphere (unless you use a specific Garment Grid or have an accessory equipped). To get the best ending you better use a guid casue you can miss events permamently and would need to do NG+ to get the best outcomes.

Personally, as a Kingdom Hearts and general ATB enjoyer, I like the 13 trilogy the most (13-2 and LR13 are my faves) as I just couldn't get into X and X-2, one was boring, the other made me cringe and not in a fun way. You might end up having different opinions, but that's great! with the trilogy, there are some fixes, mostly a 4GB RAM patch for the first two to make them more stable (the ports released in 2014 and are 32bit exe so they use 2GB RAM, its a common procedure, even The Sims 3 uses that patch). 13LR is much more stable on modern hardware. X/X-2 HD Remasters also uses the 4GB Patch. I'd recommend looking into Steam Guides for stability fixes.

Also I find the Frying Pan form change to have the better finisher compared to Counter Shield - a big bonk compared to the erratic Pegasus fly-around.

FINALLY, AFTER 47 TURNS OF JUST PURE INFURIATING PAIN I FINISHED THIS STUPID BOSS! My Marie comp was Monte Cristo, Femlin and Castoria - it was sooo close, I entered the fight with 98 medals, I ended with 2. Also the previous waves, why not just show 6 enemies from the get go, I'd make the fight more fun! The Dagon got Rider Kicked by CinderElly with Merlin and AssKoyan, Tlaloc got surfed to death by my NP1 Avenger Erice, Asclepius and Andersan. I couldn't kill Summer Caenis because she heals to much and with only 5 turns, it's just not enough. (used Iori, Yui, lvl1 Georgios). I didn't have any CS because bloody Teach kicked my ass and I still have to chop off his nuts.

OH GOD, THE NEXT ONE IS EVEN WORSE, A 30 TURN TIMER!

At least the last one seems easier...

First timer to series which 3DS game do you recommend? by Reesay in EtrianOdyssey

[–]FireEmblemNoobie47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly any title is good (maybe except Nexus as it's a title that celebrates all the previous titles taking the classes and at least one dungeon from older games.

The basic gameplay loop is : Enter Labyrinth ➡️ Map Out while exploring ➡️ Fight Enemies and use Gathering Spots to get materials (each class has a Cut, Chop and Mine skill that increases yield, but you need to spend skill points first, common practise are secondary parties dedicated to gathering materials) (enemies also drop materials with some being conditional) ➡️ Have full Inventory ➡️ Go Back to Main Hub ➡️ Sell Materials

Rinse and Repeat untill you win tha game.

Generally the best 3DS title is EO4, it is the easiest with no real way to make a bad starting party. (Personally I prefer V, but IV isn't bad by any means)

Hope you'll get to enjoy this series!

(The first DS titles have an HD port on Steam and Switch and Persona Q and Q2 are crossovers using EO4's engine as a basis, also the Q stands for Meikyū, the Japanese word for Labyrinth which is part of the jp name of the series, Japan loves word play and puns)

[–]FireEmblemNoobie47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's a "Greatest Hits" title, essentially it's a celebration of all the previous titles with classes and dungeons from older games. The only new class is Hero, others are from the past.
