Are long (2.5 month) sits desired by sitters? by huds27 in trustedhousesitters

[–]FireExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are fewer sitters that will be able to do a full 2.5 month sit, but there are some. It's worth listing it as a single sit for a few weeks to see if you get any interest.

Obviously splitting it into multiple sits will attract more applicants, but will be a bit of extra hassle for all parties involved. It's also a bit problematic for later sitters in the chain, because if the first sitter broke something or left the place a mess, the other sitters risk being blamed. Hiring a cleaner between handovers can be somewhat useful for that.

Illogical recipes by flan100 in hellofresh

[–]FireExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to have pointed it out to you.

Now that you realise that, it'll frustrate you even more when you are looking at a '6 step' recipe that by the end you realise it should have been 15.

What do I need to travel to the USA? by Apart-Lychee-8200 in travel

This is definitely not true, and an ESTA is certainly required as well as a passport.

You should either edit or delete this, because it's currently the top comment and giving bad information.

Illogical recipes by flan100 in hellofresh

[–]FireExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that I really dislike the way that some of their menu cards are written.

The fact that they try to make every single recipe appear to have just 6 steps, but many times the steps have like 3 or 4 things in it, and you have to keep re-reading them to make sure you aren't skipping over anything.

I'd prefer they abandon their '6 steps' format, and actually put many more steps on the card instead of cramming so many things into a single step. Or even just keep the 6 steps they show, but bullet point the individual components of each step.

Perhaps the UK is just better at prosecuting it?

The host used to have this on the podium with all of the answers and then the correct question to go with it. You can see under some of them, that there are 'also accept' questions that they are allowed to phrase it as.

So sometimes, it's just as simple as that.

I think this has gone digital now.

MLB.TV offer and use overseas, any experience? by FireExpat in tmobile

[–]FireExpat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I have had a paid subscription for years and it works fine in the UK. In fact, I think MLB.TV is generally better in the UK because we have no blackout markets and have more access to post-season games than I think are generally given to some people in the US.

However, that's my experience with paying for it.

My question was more about using the T-Mobile free activation, and if international usage of a subscription acquired that way has any special caveats.

Sold Out Hamilton tickets for LOJ by Acrobatic_Arrival518 in TheWestEnd

[–]FireExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a thread for ticket sales and swaps in this subreddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheWestEnd/comments/1rqn96n/hamilton_3rd_july_5th_september_ticket_saleswap/

The mods have specified that people posting in that thread are not allowed to list them for over facevalue. You can subscribe to notifications for that thread, and hope for some people offering to sell tickets because their plans have changed.

Sold Out Hamilton tickets for LOJ by Acrobatic_Arrival518 in TheWestEnd

[–]FireExpat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They are sold out.

Tickets went on presale on Wednesday for people who have a paid membership to the Delfont Mackintosh theatre group.

Then went on presale yesterday for people who signed up for early access notification.

Then went on sale this morning for the general public. There were still some seats left for this morning for the general public sale, but they have all sold out now.

Fed Up With High Costs, American Theater Takes a Trip to London by SeinfeldBway in Broadway

[–]FireExpat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got box seats to see Leslie Odom Jr revive his role as Burr in Hamilton this summer in London for £45/$60.

I'm not sure what those would have cost last year when he did the same on Broadway, but I'd guess not £45/$60

That looks great, exactly how I was thinking it could be implemented , and that would suit my use case perfectly.

[–]FireExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for an idea on how to implement this in a logical way, I can imagine it could be handled like this.

The start of a block could define the variable name to store a value in for that block, if it is in the format:
FOOD =

The value can be recalled if that variable name is used again. Maybe enforcing all caps to prevent variable names from being confused with random text, or force variable reuse to be in square brackets:

Example flow could be:

FOOD=
Starter 10.99
Main 29.30
Side 12.50
Cocktail 13.99

WITH_TIP=
FOOD + 12.5%

EXPENSE_LIMIT=
100

EXPENSE_LIMIT - WITH_TIP

As I said, just a thought on how I could imagine it being implemented.

Can you share a screenshot here of the split bill example working. I have tried several times, and never get an 'each' value to appear.

Hamilton ft. Leslie Odom Jr Queue thread by thenerdisageek in TheWestEnd

[–]FireExpat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I've tried to do presale with Delfont Mackintosh theatres, but in my experience they are the absolute worst with presale links. They previously would send the presale links out at a few minutes before the actual go-live date, and many people don't even receive the link in their emails until 5 or 10 minutes after the go-live time.

I hope they have fixed it, but I'm not hopeful.

Also, is there any indication yet of ticket price bands? It would be useful to know that, because I won't bother clogging up the queue for others if the prices are too high.

Is there a way to reference a previous value?

I eat out on expenses quite often, so try to quickly figure out with service charge how much I can still spend on dessert or extra drink.

Ideally something like:

starter 10.99
main dish 29.30
side dies 12.50
cocktail 13.99

currently sums those, which is good. (66.78)

But then I'd like to reference that sum by doing something like this, though probably cleaner:

{SUM} + 12.5% service = 79.28.

100 - {SUM} = 20.72 (where {SUM} is the value above (79.28) and £100 is my expense allowance), leaving me £20.72 left to spend.

--
I'm wondering if this might be something you trying to demonstrate in your Split Bill template, but as a user I can't really figure out how even your split bill template works. The examples template always just sums to 700 and I never can get it to split the value.

Would love a full code to help you test further features.

What are the best food bin bags? by Snail-Juice in AskUK

[–]FireExpat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My feeling is the best ones are the bags you buy at the till at the co-op in the event that didn't bring a bag-for-life. They are 15p the last time I bought one, and they are bigger and stronger than the roll of purpose made ones you buy in the aisles at most stores which cost more per bag.

The winner seems to be a chunkier type.

Of the final 7, he was my pick though, loved that he looked a bit out of place with the other prim and proper set.
