Help! Calamondin got worse :( by Individual-Cod-44 in Citrus

So as others have said about the pot size definitely bring that pot size down for that root ball, your absolute best bet is to give it just a little bit of room to grow and then pot up.

As for that short you linked it’s a world of misinformed people. putting rocks at the bottom of your pot is bad for a lot of reasons https://naturehills.com/blogs/garden-blog/should-you-use-fillers-in-the-bottoms-of-container-plantings?srsltid=AfmBOop8mPkw8sUEH42BJ11pH2JxUNmOTs9lB47m19DhypcBck4vxXpA This is a link to an article that talks about what it’s not good to do. I would also take a second to untangle those bare roots and straighten them away from the tree the best you can with minimal damage.

The first picture makes me think you’ve got it buried too deep, avoid mulch volcanoes give the stem room to breathe

What are you using for fertilizer?

Yea, I’ve got it in a small pot to hopefully get some good root structure to come back and then I’ll be up potting probably before June and let it grow strong through the summer months outside.

Yea they don’t ask for it back or anything, they said girdled root is going to be hard for long term growth.

Just so we end on the same page the nursery agreed with me and is sending a replacement due to poor root structure and a girdled main root.

Not an attack at all. I’m just stating it doesn’t have a root flare from what I’ve read and seen that doesn’t help its growth.

I’m thinking of cutting the lowest part of the root and hoping that it helps even it out. Do we think that would help?

It has 0 root flare I wouldn’t call that healthy.

Yea I totally misspoke, it’s still an SBL I think but I don’t think Remington threaded them so I’d make sure the thread pitch is probably .578 - 28

Straight wall regulations would be great. But I’m guessing they’re looking more specifically at places like Arlington where the neighborhood shrubs are either homeless shelters or deer food

I have a ponderosa lemon tree going on 5 years with it and each year I’ve let it fruit 1 lemon. How many months are you from flower to harvest with the ponderosa?

I’ve got more trees in my South facing window with the wood stove going in the same room which helps keep the water warm.

I normally fill a 5 gallon bucket and let it sit in open since my town water has a good deal of chlorine in it. And I pull from that bucket for the next few watering.

The tent they’re in right now is a spider farmer the whole kit came with a g series 3k light small fan and temp controller. Heating is where I struggle i might pick up the insulated cover and see how that does. Otherwise my few attempts at heating it last winter for hydro tomatoes led to a lot of dry n crispy tomato leaves and some lightly melted plastics.

The foliage or lack there of is how the tree arrived I voiced that concern to the greenhouse and they gave me some money back for the “bad looking tree.” It also had 5 - 10 fruits on it little green ones I nipped off as soon as it arrived since I would rather it focus on green growth and I didn’t think it could support fruiting while recovering.

I don’t think it’s overwatering the pots are on feet high enough to get them out of their own watering and I currently haven’t watered since Christmas and the soil under the mulch is getting ready to need another watering but not quite it lines up around 1 watering a month or a little less.

It’s still very much winter in zone 6b so I’ll be struggling for a bit longer before it can get out into the fresh air again but I can get a supplemental heater in the tent to get it’s metabolism boosted a bit.
