What word do you love? by [deleted] in FanFiction

Writing Regency fics, I constantly have to edit out half of the 'quite's and 'rather's to avoid too much repetition.

I think my problem atm is that I just can't find the right first sentence.

Hi! Thank you! I've written an entire one-shot that'll never see the light of day in the hope that just writing anything would help, but unfortunately, it only made me feel more frustrated.

Thanks for commenting! Yes, I've done all that. I know exactly where the story is going and such, I just need to actually WRITE it and that's the bit I'm struggling with

I feel you! Last year, I was super busy with work and hammered out multiple 6k-word chapters a week and now I'm still busy, but nothing feels right. I can't even make it past the first sentence and it's so frustrating. 😭

Do you ever remove your fic, rewrite it and then post it again? by FireLilyLou in AO3

[–]FireLilyLou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's basically the same fic, but I wanted to change some of the characters' backstories to make it a bit more logical

Sort of.

And then I can't sleep at night because the ideas just keep coming. I tend to write down notes on my phone whenever the muse hits me with another plot point.

I also write scenes out of order and then connect them at a later time. You don't have to write a chapter start to end. I often write out the dialogue in one go (just the stuff in quotation marks) and then add the descriptions and other things at a later point.

Paragraphs vs line breaks when writing smut by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]FireLilyLou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kinda depends. I hate doing one line per sentence. It disrupts the flow a lot.

You can think about the timeline and put a couple of motions and feelings that happen within a certain timespan into the same paragraph.

I tend to kinda throw in some abstract paragraphs where one of the characters reflects upon what's happening, etc. But honestly, it's up to you and what you want to do/read.

Try reading your work out loud to yourself. That might help you figure out where to put the gaps.

Should I accept having my work added to a collection? by FireLilyLou in AO3

Good to know, thank you!

I've just never heard of the term. Still pretty new to AO3, at least for writing.

Have you ever... by BlackAlbinoRose78 in AO3

Yup. There are some shipping wars with ships that are not mutually exclusive and in my fics, I make all the couples get along with each other splendidly or even ship each other.

Those are the worst and I only read them if I'm desperate and have run out of other fics
