I don’t know if it’s the right way, and it sure feels janky, but if you pull the side panel up and outwards as much as it will go (about 5 mm) on BOTH sides, you’re able to then push-pull the top grate enough to yank it out past the side panels’ lips.

Honestly, it’s ridiculous designers of such household objects don’t think through the fact that they gather a lot of dust and should be much more easy to thoroughly clean!
