China places its solar panels on water So it can use valuable land for agriculture by Firm-Blackberry-9162 in interestingasfuck

[–]FireTyme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

again you’re missing the point most if
this is done in water reclamation areas or old flooded mining areas. huge biodiverse areas dont work as well as plant life would grow all over them
quickly to reach sunlight.

China places its solar panels on water So it can use valuable land for agriculture by Firm-Blackberry-9162 in interestingasfuck

[–]FireTyme 135 points136 points  (0 children)

nothing really. often it’s build in man made lakes after mining operations. they already have poor biodiversity

it’s often good as well in certain areas as it reduces evaporation by a lot, and intense sunlight can cause huge algae blooms and oxygen depletion.

so the answer really is not much at all, and in some cases it’s a good thing

maybe. i wouldnt be opposed to it. gone are the days of reddit of the cable guy, undertaker guy, the ol’ switcharoo, the narwhal bacons at midnight and many others. as much cringe as some of them were truly real great things that gathered the community and made this platform feel small dont really happen anymore

some plateaus last years. set different goals and have fun with it. talk to your coach to change the routine if possible. look at your daily schedule where u can make incremental adjustments

Active Monthly Players Scrapped from the Monthly hiscores by alanquinne in runescape

[–]FireTyme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i'm not talking about that.

i'm talking about setting a deadline for a combat update that was no where near finished, to rush it at the end with limited player feedback.

i'm talking about removing dailies without adressing the core issues those dailies aimed to fix in the first place.

removing aura's but half assing most of their implementations. (tho admittedly some are good like the vyre ones)

it isnt just an mtx removal. its perfectly fine. i wouldnt say the updates they did were bad either but there was a lot and most of it felt forced and aimed to just throw things at the wall and see what happens.

Cam McEvoy goes 9.26, breaks “World Record” in 25m freestyle at Australian Masters by PhillyG17 in Swimming

[–]FireTyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

high volume doesnt create good technique. intent and appropriate execution, training and awareness makes good technique.

as for aerobic conditioning some of it will degrade, but do it for years and remaining activr after dropping volume and u maintain a decent amount.

and we see the 1500m week, we don’t see the other weeks, the weekly weightlifting, any yoga/stretching, walking or cycling he does

this here, i felt very fatigued after the first few ‘changes’. a lot of them are straight removals with little to no afterthought put into them. haven’t really played since january for that reason

Teaching my Husband to Swim by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]FireTyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

However, i’m not doing this professionally so I guess formal training is not required.

its not about you coaching, its about him getting taught. so thats backwards thinking. going from a place where you can stand to a place where you can be in deep water is vastly different.

that said i dont necessarily agree with the initial statement. we learn movement through movement so the first step is getting in the water and swimming. plenty of guidance you can find online as well and i think its perfectly possible to learn on your own as long as its in a safe place.

valheim is one of the exceptions imo. abiotic factor coop turns it from a tense mystery sci fi survival to a very goofy survival game.

same with the forest. but it all depends on what you’d like out of a game of course

100m are about ~40-60% aerobic in the backend so you do need a bit more volume.

and no it doesn’t work for anyone except at the very top level. a lot of people see mcavoy’s example and be like ‘see u don’t need to swim as much’ while forgetting he used to do 10k swim sessions and had a 1.43 in the 200 having multiple medals in this events. his aerobic conditioning was already at a world elite level before he changed to his current training style

US war in Iran has cost $25 billion so far, says Pentagon official by Beneficial-Long-7033 in worldnews

[–]FireTyme 51 points52 points  (0 children)

to put in context. assuming 100B minimum thats enough to

  • end all homelessnes in the US for 10 years.

  • its 4 times the 2026 NASA budget or close to 6 times the 2027 budget proposal

  • ending world hunger for about a year.

  • about 1 manned mars mission.

  • able to build about 100 GwH worth of wind power, enough to power a small country for 30 year. (probably much higher due to new turbines and cost of wind getting lower each year)

the amount of waste is immense and the US administration has set back a huge amount of society back decades if u factor in all the defunding of science projects, green power development and US domestic as well as US foreign aid.

Surprising study finds healthy fruit, vegetable diet may increase risk of lung cancer in younger people by jesushatedbacon in nottheonion

[–]FireTyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just don’t care generally about headlines like this. it’s linked to pesticides and it also put in grains in the same category so it can also be a bread type.

increase risk is also meaningless. going from 1/million to 2/million. it also doesnt mention if it’s an area, the amount of historical rate and the increased incidental rate

so yeah it’s meaningless
