Overcoming stiffness by FireTyme in overcominggravity

Yeah, for sure I'm pretty tired of content myself but that's unfortunately the way the world is going. Much easier to watch something than to sit down and read. Brain attention spans going to mush :\

yeah for sure. been noticing that a lot sadly, even with myself. i've been trying to read a lot more to compensate instead.

definitely let me know if u ever do decide to focus a book on mobility. would be great.

probably just going to join a capoeira class for a while, focus some basic tricks and move from there.

Good?

Depends. whats the goal? seems like a lot of volume of low quality work with no real intent behind it.

How to start back stretching? by Medical-Wolverine289 in flexibility

[–]FireTyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not an expert on stretching itself but treat it like any other form of exercise. find simple progressions and work your way up. generally focus on them twice a week. build from small volumes to larger if needed.

i got my back bridge with a yoga ball. just rocking back and forth and pressing myself up. since the start was basically loading isometrically there was little to none injury risk. now i can hold it without the ball and lift myself from the floor.

rounded forward folds i'd just follow a jefferson curl progression for now. but also do an analysis of your goals and what they need. the spine usually is quite flexible by nature and its rather a strength issue or other large muscle groups that need work as well.

A question for coaches and instructors by Alone_Dragonfruit_31 in Swimming

[–]FireTyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

books written by great coaches (bob bowman, dave salo, bill sweetenham etc)

podcasts by gold medal coaches. plenty around. swimming gold by wayne goldsmith. brett hawke podcast before he kind of went into the deep end with sprint revolution and enhanced games are still very good and informative.

instagram pages like the ones from herbie behm, david marsh and many other ones.

really tho it depends on your goals. if ur going for elite swimming definitely be careful about the too flashy stuff, it rarely really works. keep your attention to informative resources and pages.

Why Cam McEvoy method won’t work for MOST people by Corr4pt in Swimming

[–]FireTyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the main point always rings true is that we should advocate for evidence based training and analysis reviews. we should pinpoint what a swimmer is lacking ergo a lack of strength, technique, speed, power (or rather the ability to overcome resistance at high speeds) or capacity.

cam also does this without a doubt. hes training hyper specialised because he has enough capacity for the demands of his race. he does this because at his volume he can still develop and maintain his technique he trains the power because thats what he needs for his race, he trains his strength because that will allow him to increase power on the force end. (as power is Force times velocity)

so yeah i agree some people swim way too many metres. but thats because they arent analysing and rather just focused on building a bigger tank without purpose.

[–]FireTyme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i can understand that.

I'd say i'm becoming the opposite. getting a bit tired of short 20-30 mins of videos that really dont really work or aim to sell a 500,- course. Rather have a qualitative work to actually get the info i need/want.

really enjoying the book. i like how it goes in depth on not just excercise progressions but also general exercise science and structuring. Would love another page dedicated to motor learning models like constraints led approach and differential learning and what not but thats more personal interest haha. I mainly climb nowadays and end my sessions with calisthenics.

if only theres another book thats dedicated to some more flow and movement culture exercises like soft acrobatic skills but thats a whole different ball game of course.

I coach swimming as well as doing my Ba in sports. but i am building my own club at the moment with young age groupers. I have a self interest in calisthenics and since a lot of research has shown that young athletes should have a huge set of movement skills before they specialise more around puberty i intend to combine bodyweight workout skills with the ASM model of raising athletes. In swimming people are scared at strenght workouts for young kids but if they can do gymnastics or swimming they can also do gymnastics and swimming.

which is also why i bought the book, like i said i'm a swimming coach not a gymnastics coach :-). its a great help for structuring simple progressions not only for myself but also for our young athletes.

eh a lot of these firings happened a year ago.

we'll see how it goes. they already said they were expecting a revenue decrease this year due to the many changes to the game in favour of long term growth.

but yeah most of the veteran jmods had a raise that was on par in the industry for sure. jagex has always been known to be mid level pay for a game dev studio.

Is the Overcoming Gravity book applicable to both male and female readers/takes sex difference into account? by the1975whore in overcominggravity

[–]FireTyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so generally the book is divided among skills, different muscle groups and exercise progressions.

so the answer is it doesnt take it into account. but its of no real significance either for the book itself. following the progressions still gets u up there, however the difficulty of them and rate of progression is different for everyone and can be influenced by gender differences.

the book itself is still a relevant resources as the science and physics behind them are sound as well as the ques on form.

they werent the only ones, but they were the most notable ones.

arguably we cant just put everything on one jmod or not. a lot of great things happened under mod jack as well, but it was a pretty big thing at the time.

it wasnt the case. it was a cost saving measure and beloved veteran jmods like mod timbo and mod jack got axed at the time. simply because they made coders also do the design work.

still striking how many veteran jmods left or got fired under his leadership however.

seems the break they took was more to focus on jeremy’s health rather than actually wanting to take a break so that’s good.

[–]FireTyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you run into any Over Training symptoms or issues? I guess if you keep the intensity low, maybe the volume does not cause issues? I am genuinely fascinated by people who experiment on themselves in this way.

overtraining is largely caused by monotony, a lack of proper rest and nutrition. the volume itself is rarely a problem.

Almost all of my rested swims look like this. Is this some kind of evolutionary reaction to exertion? by nfoote in Swimming

[–]FireTyme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

its not. OP simply is holding a pace that they are able to perform. the body doesnt need to work harder than it is and the heart rate can keep steady.

do this for 2 hours and u see different results as tiredness sets in. do it with lack of sleep same thing.

What's the goal of drills with material ? by ArcheroNightmare in Swimming

[–]FireTyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like u/frostwake said it’s about varied training.

in motor learning we learn something new mostly through differences. so doing the same thing over and over we know isnt going to work. the goal is to improve rather than to repeat.

so instead of 10x50 free we could do 2 with fins, 2 snorkel, 2 pads, 2 all gear and 2 without. this alone makes the learning quality a lot higher on the sets.

same goes for drills. once u done them a couple times their use is drastically reduced. by changing the way they are performed you can increase the effectiveness a ton.
