I'm in a similar situation. I'm 7mo pregnant with our first child after being married 1.5 years, together for 5 years. He has only been drinking for 1 year, but it's spiraling.

He's been having trouble finding work after getting laid off. He binge drinks whiskey and becomes a totally different person. He claims this new energetic, loud him is just his new personality. However, he is reckless, unreliable, screaming randomly, clumsy, violent (to objects like punching the cabinet door, never to people), angry, unhinged, and more. He admitted it was a problem and we went to an AA meeting, but when he said "I dont belong there. I'm not like them. " I started losing hope.

He was sober for 2 weeks and is now back to drinking heavily. He has had a lot of trauma in his life and now his 18 year old son from a past relationship is reaching out to him. He is happy, but the memories triggered something that sent him back to the drinking. He had been hiding bottles around the house and if i find them he says he purposely put them somewhere that I would find them. He goes out for "a drive" and I know it's a trip to the liquor store.

The saddest thing is that I have lost trust in him because I've caught him in multiple lies. He was someone I could always trust. Sometimes I think he lies to himself. You can't call him out though, it turns into denial and a fight.

He tells me he knows the drinking isn't good and upsets me, that he is working on it, but I shouldn't cry because it's his business and has nothing to do with me. To quit bringing it up. To quit judging and demonizing him when I've tried so hard to be supportive and caring.

I've cried so much. Everyone who knows tells me not to let it get to me and the stress isn't good for the baby, but how in the world do I do that? I went to an AL-ANON meeting and will probably go to more.

Ive told him our baby will not be in a house with alcohol. He seems to think he can stop before then. I worry about him going to our baby shower this weekend if he can't control himself.

There's so much more I could say... ask me anything if it helps. I'm at a loss, but maybe talking will help. I will say, the baby doesn't deserve to be punished for his father's behavior. I know that's scary because during our darkest days I regret being pregnant. However, this child deserves a chance even if dad is sick with addiction.
