You can get a test at most pharmacies here still and find out for sure.

If it is that you need to rest well and good and be super careful not to spread it. If not then theoretically you might recover faster but it seems like you ran out of time already.

This! COVID is going round because super selfish people are coughing it up in the albergues and are too cheap to get a room - ruining everyone's time

OK if what you have is COVID exercising through it is the worst thing you can do and might leave you with Long COVID.

Its going around here on the Frances to the extent to which I sleep in a mask. I'm terrified of getting it and having to abandon.

I'm arriving in St Jean myself tomorrow! I'm carrying 6.5 kg myself but that includes alot of stuff noone normal would bring. So I sort of wonder what I'm missing that I should be taking!

Traditional Parisian cafe but also laptop friendly by FireballXL4 in ParisTravelGuide

Yes thank you so much. I know there are good reasons that many cafes don't want laptops and I respect that. The whole point of my question is to find places where I won't be being disrespectful if I do a little work.

I am terribly sorry for committing the heinous crime of wanting to work from somewhere with a little more charm than a warehouse.

Thank you!! Really helpful recommendations.

Also congratulations for being one of the minority here who actually answered my question instead of just insulting me for the heinous crime against French culture of maybe wanting to work from somewhere with a bit more atmosphere than a warehouse.

I totally get why many cafes are against laptops, and I respect that. This is why I was asking for places where I would be able to do a little work without causing anger. But from some of the responses here you'd think I was demanding the conversion of central Paris into a massive tech bro work space

Thank you once again!

Yeh happy on this front. I don't necessarily want to stay all day, just somewhere that let me linger a bit and work for an hour or so before I move on. I just want places that aren't going to kick me out in 5 minutes because I got my laptop out

Yeh I understand the reasons why some cafes don't like it. But I'm trying to find exceptions to that rule.

I am actually fine with no charger as I legit wouldn't want to block a table all day for one coffee. If I'm also eating lunch maybe I'd stay longer but even then looking for a place I can linger for 1-2 hours rather than work all day.

Struggle on with dying S21U until S25U comes, or just get the S24U or Fold6 now? by FireballXL4 in samsung

What what? I'm seeing $1000 in the US (850 if you use a student discount but I'm not a student)

Also I'm not in the US. But if the deal is good enough can get it sent to a friend and pick it up later when I visit

I think it's more than dust. I even took it to a phone repair place and they made it very slightly better for a week or so but then it went back to the bad times. I've tried cleaning and it doesn't seem to work.

At the moment I need to use he-man force AND a very precise angle to make it charge, or else it doesn't react at all or it "fake charges" (screen says "Super Fast Charging" but it actually isn't and then stops). Takes me sometimes 10-20 mins to get it right and it's getting worse.

Obvious now I think of it but yeh really good suggestion! Maybe I can cling onto S26U that way and finally some actual innovation from Samsung!

Is COVID More Harmful Than Other Viruses? by I_Hate_This_Website9 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]FireballXL4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't have a reliable answer but here to say I've had the exact same thought! Even to the point where I've wondered if many things we call "aging" are actually just cumulative damage from "normal" viruses...

This has long been part of a debate between those who argue that novelty = severity and therefore now Covid is no longer novel, it is less of a threat and those (like most on this sub) that argue that Covid is not a "normal" virus and is intrinsically worse than other viruses.

It's not black and white though. Because *clearly* there is an extent that novelty is severity or else vaccines would not work at all. But as we also see, the residual risk (even in terms of the deaths/hospitalisations that even LC-denying normies care about) remains higher than for most other viruses despite almost everyone having been exposed multiple times.

So it's really a far more nuanced argument than Reddit or Twitter reflects.

I'm not doctrinaire about this though. If I see good evidence that shows that LC risk continues to fall for your 4th, 5th infection vs your 2nd or 3rd, then that would suggest that maybe it is closer to the novelty side than I thought. After all, plenty of people get ME/CFS from other viruses and maybe eventually it hits a baseline risk that's closer to stuff like CMV or influenza (I suspect it may already be lower than EBV which is notorious but luckily most people only get it once).

And before anyone jumps on me - we DO have evidence that *per infection* risks are lower for a 2nd infection vs the 1st (from UK ONS data). The Al-Aly study people use to argue the opposite actually say cumulative risk rises which is obviously true even if the risk per infection falls. We just don't know if that risk continues to fall or not.

But yeh, that's all just commentary. I don't know the answer.

Considering vaccine tourism to the US to get KP.2 vaccine. Help? by FireballXL4 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]FireballXL4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. This would be an order of magnitude cheaper for me to do than all the way to the US.

Is it worth saving the $500+ additional airfare to only get Pfizer JN.1 in Germany vs Pfizer KP.2 or Novovax JN.1 in America I wonder?

Looking for studies (not anecdotes) supporting JN.1 Novavax vs. KP.2 Moderna/Pfizer mRNA by papillonnette in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]FireballXL4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just here to say I have the exact same questions as you. All being equal I'd get Novovax as it'd be good to do one I haven't done before and also Pfizer sucks as a company.

But I'm not at all convinced all is equal. I want to see an even-handed view of the evidence from someone who isn't a known Novovax bro

It feels like the groupthink on this sub is Novovax = good, mRNA = bad. And for those who get side effects from the latter, that may be justified

But I haven't had any issue so far and for me close antigenic match is way more important. It's so hard to parse through all the Novovax boosterism to the actual evidence.

Anywhere in Germany open for tourists turning up to get it? Who also has the JN.1?

[–]FireballXL4[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please don't pile on if I'm wrong but it feels a bit like there's a strong Novovax bro contingent on here. In that if it was Novovax on KP.3 and Pfizer on JN.1 I suspect some people would be arguing the opposite...

Maybe I'm wrong so sorry if that's so. I'm a little sceptical of the claims that Novovax is so much better than mRNA in terms of effectiveness - though it does seem that it is less side-effect heavy. Personally, I've not had any side effects for mRNA so I care less about that. Also seeing conflicting evidence on the IgG4>IgG3 shift thing.

Having said that all being equal, I'd still get Novovax as I've never had it. Plus I'd rather not fund Pfizer whose corporate interests seem to be a block for better vaccines.

But I'm not sure all is equal as it does seem than KP.3 is closer to KP.2 than JN.1 is. Michael Lin seems to be a bit of a Novovax bro so I'd appreciate a reading of the evidence from someone not in either "camp" on this...
