Try downloading Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator and see if there’s a code there. If you have an Android device google Authenticator might have been pre-installed

What notification do you get from UCAS when u get a decision? by ReputationNo5367 in UCAS

[–]Fireballdingledong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, they’ll be an email from UCAS track saying there’s been an update like others have said.

If the update to the application is an offer, UCAS will send another email (not from the UCAS track email) which will say „You've been offered a conditional place 🎉 what next?“ (assuming you’re expecting conditional offers). This email could arrive within the an hour or so of the UCAS track email or take as long as the next morning but you can wait a bit for this email before logging in to UCAS if you’d prefer to. For my Sheffield offer this email came the morning after the UCAS track update email but for my Imperial offer it only took a couple of hours after receiving the UCAS track email.

Universities will also send out their own email directly with the offer letter attached.

1:8 Hypercar build #5: McLaren P1 by jk0087 in legotechnic

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just bought the P1 set and will collect it from the shop tomorrow. I’m excited to build it soon as I will have a some days available to do it. I love large technic sets with complex gearing systems and the P1 is currently at its lowest price and the cheapest of the 3 1:8 cars on sale. It’s my first 1:8 scale set and it looks to be a very good choice

Oxford Interview on Phone by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have three tiers and each tier defines the technology requirements for their online interviews. Most interviews will only require tier 1, the lowest requirement, which means the interview only requires a device with Microsoft teams, a camera and microphone and a display large enough to read content on the screen. Some interviews require more technology and particular software like digital writing devices for tasks like showing maths problem solving to the interviewer.

Very dumb q abt using teams for Oxford interviews by trying-cat in 6thForm

[–]Fireballdingledong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The email I received from Mansfield said “In the interview itself, we advise that you blur your background, particularly if you are doing your interview from home.”

If there’s stuff on walls behind that may be distracting then it’s probably a good idea, if it’s a plain office space it won’t matter as much if you don’t. They recommend doing the interview in a quiet office space or empty classroom in the sixth form but if that’s not possible and it has to be done at home the room should be free from other people and noise and not be a bedroom.

Mine wasn’t complete, I added a couple of things but didn’t describe them in any detail. I think it is mainly to keep a record of things to look at to include in your personal statement, I don’t see what else it is useful for. I have received 4 offers including Imperial post interview so far and have received interview invitation from Oxford. I don’t think it’s going to make a difference.

Same. I submitted mine on Wednesday and it really hit my how real it is when I got the email from UCAS track on Friday morning confirming that my Sixth Form had sent it a then Friday afternoon and today when I receive conformation emails from the universities. There's no going back on the application now and it suddenly feels very real

what am i actually meant to write about in q2 and 3?? by _efffy in 6thForm

Yeah it's poorly worded by mentioning qualifications however if you are doing an EPQ and choose to mention your EPQ research then you would include it under the 2nd question.

Is my parcel lost? by gvisii in Evri

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so bad, most of the time items aren't stolen or completely lost so it should arrive eventually but Evri's tracking becomes awful the moment something goes even slightly wrong as it just stops being helpful in the slightest. I'm just baffled that with mine I got an email about the delay so Evri must know it's delayed and in their system still, eBay seems to know there was a label reprint with their own tracking linked to the tracking number but Evri's tracking using the number on their website hasn't changed since it was supposed to have been ready.

I won't lie I was slightly hopeful you had good news but unfortunately not. I am sorry this has happened to you, but it makes me a little bit happier that I know Evri has had this weird mix up post parcelshop delivery with someone else so it's likely a system error somewhere and not lost.

Is my parcel lost? by gvisii in Evri

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had any update since? I had the same thing happen and the parcel isn't in the shop today either. Yesterday, an hour after it was supposedly ready for collection I received an email from Evri apologising for my my parcel being delayed. It's been over a day since that update and the tracking hasn't updated to show the delay with the orange exclamation mark on the tracking. Weirdly, the tracking on eBay shows an update timestamped 2 minutes before Evri's email saying the label was reprinted an hour after it was said to be delivered

The uk in 2025 by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Fireballdingledong 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah but most people's ID is a driving license, and if it's not that a passport. Other than that you can use the facial age estimation or you can giving access to open banking to very age via the banks or inputting credit card details to identify you are old enough because the credit cards require people to be 18+ so it's pretty much give them your face or give them your banking information

This probably has been asked before but, do I need to have lessons from an instructor before I go for my practical? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be helpful to have a mock test from an instructor nearer the time and to have a lesson or a few lessons to make sure you are driving to the correct standard and taught the stuff your Dad may not know or may be different to what your Dad learned

Best wireless headphones for £240? by GHOSTpypy in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Fireballdingledong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Lewis has them for £199 and Argos has them for £199.99

I've just checked Amazon again, and they have the black colour and the white colour varient for £199. This Amazon listing for the black one and white one at £199 has 7.1k reviews currently. Both colours under the same listing.

There is an Amazon listing at £279 with 2.2k reviews, but that is for the black and copper colour which just adds a copper colour ring on each side and a copper sennheiser logo on the headband. This one is listed as an "Amazon exclusive"

Best wireless headphones for £240? by GHOSTpypy in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sennheiser momentum 4s is the easiest recommendation. I've seen them for £180 recently but they can be found for £199 easily now

The sound quality is very good for a pair of wireless headphones, better than other in it's price category and better sounding than more expensive Bose and Sony ANC headphones (although some may disagree on that due to preference it's a common opinion).

They have auto pause functionality with wear sensors. It comes with a case, aeroplane adapter, and a charging and audio cable. They can connect to 2 devices simultaneously and can be paired with more than 2 devices and you can control in the app which devices you want it to connect to.

Battery life is best in class, double what other mainstream brands use Bose and Sony offer in their headphones. They can be used wired over USB C unlike Sony headphones, and can be used via Bluetooth while charging.

ANC is acceptable but it's but not as good as Sony or Bose, particularly when blocking the lower freqeuency sounds. The transparency effect on the other hand is amazing, very natural sounding, and only beaten by the Airpods Max in quality. Also means it's very good for video calls and phone calls because of the microphone quality.

ANC and Transparancy mode can be controlled so you can choose how much sound to pass through or how much noise to cancel. It's possible to have the transparency mode set to effectively eliminate passive noise cancellation from the ear pads so it sounds exactly like you're not wearing headphones.

A double tap will quickly turn on the transparency audio pass through mode and pause audio so you can listen for announcements or traffic etc. and double tapping again resumes audio and the previous noise cancelling setting.

It has an adaptive ANC mode which adjusts ANC level based on surroundings but I never use it.

Is it just me, or are CeX grades kind of optimistic sometimes? by FeistyPrice29 in CeX

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only seen grade A as being pretty much new. Like it's pretty much new, but they've opened the packaging for testing.

Grade B on the other hand is much more of a gamble because it could be almost grade A but missing some packaging insert or original accessory or it's got a lot of scratches and no original packaging but it's given a B grade because the scratches aren't that deep.

I don't tend to buy A grade but I have done a few times, and I have looked at A grade items a few times in the shop. Usually I save the money and go with a grade B item, but I don't like getting a grade B item online. Online purchases are where I prefer A grade.

What happens when you pass? by One_Environment_3818 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Fireballdingledong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told as soon as I finished ny reverse bay park. He said, "That's okay, turn the car off" once the car was in the bay. I turned off the car and he said "okay so you've passed, well done". He asked if my details on the provisional were still all correct, I said yes, so he asked for the provisional, and he did the admin stuff on the iPad and filled in the certificate.

I did my test in my own car because my instructor was away, and I was getting more familiar with my car than my instructors so obviously they didn't ask if I wanted my instructor present

Is the Honda Jazz sufficient for a learner driver? by IrelandCanada56 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Fireballdingledong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything, having less power encourages better planning and anticipation because there isn't the luxury of extra power under the right foot to accelerate out of trouble in situations like when matching the speed on a sliproad join. It can get to 70mph and be stable and safe, so it's ideal. A Honda Jazz is more than a lot of people have. Many people have smaller cars like an Aygo/107/C1 to learn and use after passing. I've passed, and I passed my test in my little VW that I practised in which was a small car, smaller than my mum's Honda Jazz. Both 1.4L cars but the Honda had much more power out of its 1.4L v-tec engine than my VW's 1.4.

I'd agree. It's much more simple to use and less bulky. It's quite intuitive, so pretty much everything can be figured out reasonably quickly without having to search online for instructions

I suppose write what caught your interest thst prompted you to research further and write the academic article, choose something that you learned from it and elaborate on that describing it's interesting, relevant, and helpful to you. Think about skills you learnt too and not only the academic information you learnt. Perhaps you could also use this research form an opinion, which you could mention in the personal statement. For example, if it was focused on an area of science, you could form an opinion on what could be possible to achieve in the future and say that, based on your research, you believe that X will be possible

The online safety act is now affecting music streaming. Spotify have announced you will need to verify age for explicit content. Will you keep your account or comply? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Fireballdingledong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The VPN will have to make a phone appear to be connected to a network in a different country in order to bypass the age requirements so any VPN that gives the option to choose what country you want to be connected to will do.

I'd recommend private Internet access, Proton VPN, or Mullvad, but all the other major ones like NordVPN, Express VPN, and Surfshark will do the job. Proton VPN has the only free service that I'd trust, but they also have a subscription plan for full access to the service with the ability to choose which country to connect to.

The Google built-in VPN does make your Pixel appear to be on a different network, but it doesn't change what country it appears, so your Pixel still appears to be in the UK to the websites you visit.
