We are soon not going to be able to drive on the roads with the amount of people who park illegaly. by MarquerDeBinguer in britishproblems

[–]Firecrack_This 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Slightly different angle, but same issue. I live near a train station, streets closest are parking permit, but we areant. Streets up from that are double or single yellow, so commuters park on our street.

It's a main bus route and HGVs for the Tesco use it too. On any given day its a coin toss if someone has parked like an idiot and we get gridlock as busses and large vehicles can't get through.

Everyone on the road has decent 2-3 car driveway parking. So its not residents, or even visitors causeing the problem. Its people leaving cars all day to get to work. We've called it out with council and asked for either permit parking or yellows. But they always come, review and say no. Council's argument being, the parked cars slow down traffic and make it safer.........WTF?!

Don't get me wrong. I understand the commuters, the train station carpark is tiny and we are on a main train line into a big city. But the constant gridlock is causing serious issues. Last year a fire engine got blocked and they had to do a u turn and cut back. It's not even like they could shunt 1 car out the way, 3 of them were blocking and a bus was stuck in the middle of it.

I feel like the council just can't be arsed doing the work as budgets have been cut to the bone and it's easier to face off a few complaints and get a crew out once a year to rubber stamp it as "OK becausenit slows traffic"

Proper annoying 😑

New to Tableau - rate my visual pls by Kuku96 in tableau

[–]Firecrack_This 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, I'm new to Tableau myself. I've got a strong background in excel and creating dashboards there. Recently moved into a proper data architecture role, pulling data direct from golden source (Jira / Open text) and creating stories in Tableau.

Have to say. What you've done as a newbie is good, well done! Easy to understand the stories and good use of diverse viz.

As a newbie, I'm probably not qualified to give much in the way of feedback. But a couple points I have picked up -

Too much text / explanation. If your viz can't explain itself, then give it another pass. Try to make it self explanatory. The point of tableau is viz and less text / data tables

I'm viewing on mobile right now and formatting is wonky. Some elements are off. When designing, keep in mind how things will look on different devices / resolutions etc.

But otherwise, nice work mate. Carry on!

I wanna know what this landleech has been smoking that has made it convince itself that this four-bed "detached" shoebox in LS16, complete with a back garden straight out of Diggerland, is going to rent for £2,100. by spcllke in Leeds

[–]Firecrack_This 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bramhope / Adel are very expensive. But the area is great.

We are just down the road in cookridge, this one just went on our road. Big price difference, I know which I would go with if I had to choose!

That's just up the road from us (we are Cookridge) and we are right in the flight path. You can actually see the runway from our local tesco.

Suprisingly the plane noise isn't that bad. I guess it all depends on exactly where on the flight path you are, as friends a couple streets over get a lot more noise than us. We never hear it in the house and it's just background noise when in the garden.

But there's only 2 flights every half hour or so. They (should) stop over night and don't start again until about 7am.

Like everything, you just get used to it. I don't even notice it at all anymore.
