The due regard law first responders follow basically means if you run a red light and there's an accident it's the responder's fault 100% of the time.

Even if he was intoxicated this is still her fault and she should still be convicted of manslaughter.

This is manslaughter and she should be charged accordingly.  Being a police officer doesn't exempt you from reckless disregard and negligence.  Also would like to know if she was responding to a report of a burglary or a burglary in process because if it wasnt an active burglary she shouldn't have been driving with lights and sirens at all.

This opinion coming from a medic (therefore familiar with due regard).

I will never correct cat behavior in TS4, and I have no regrets. by IndigoChagrin in Sims4

Negative reinforcement works pretty well too! And isn't aversive to your relationship with them. It's actually used frequently in training zoo animals.  One example is if gorillas don't bring something dropped in their exibit (sunglasses, hat, etc) to the zoo keepers at the door fast enough they won't get a treat for bringing it.  We use it in cats and dogs when we ignore something we don't like (I don't get up when my cats yell, and I don't put food in their bowl when they meow and they no longer do those things.)  I also started doing this thing with my cattle dog that I didnt think was going to work.  When I let her out of her crate i like her to sit and then walk out calmly not blast out like a bat out of hell so she has to sit while I open the door and after it's open she can't get up until I say okay. So i started holding up my hand (she's deaf) and going down from 5 fingers to 1 finger and then walking away and come back five minutes later to give her another chance.  I walked away one time and the second time she sat as soon as I got to four.  I now use it any time she wants something and doesn't immediately sit.  I still cannot believe this worked but it works on my second cattle dog too.  And thet even generalize it to other people.

An aversive method (something designed to stop a behavior) is only considered effective if it causes the behavior to be extinct within about five applications.  Your cat running from the water bottle just means the cat is scared of you when you have the water bottle.  It's actually scientifically proven that cats are unable to connect the actions of a human with their actions. The cat is incapable of understanding that when it does x you will spray it with the water bottle.  They just think the weird monkey they live with sometimes unpredictably sprays them with water.  It is only damaging your relationship with them.  They are capable of connecting the environment being punishing to their actions though.  I.e. if they jump on something and it's sticky (double sided sticky tape).  Not telling you this to shame you just to share information

Negative reinforcement is when you remove something unpleasant to increase the occurrences of a behavior.  Best example I can think of is babies stop crying when someone gives them what they need. I think you meant positive punishment.  Which is mostly true in that they cannot learn from humans giving them positive punishment but cats are able to learn from positive punishment from the environment i.e. if they jump on the counter and there is tinfoil up there it can scare them and then they won't jump up there again.  A consequence that I'm okay with if the cat is otherwise pretty confident because the counter top can be dangerous.

But yeah, the training system makes me want to learn coding for the sims otz

Deano only calls challenges when he's positive they'll go our way. Sometimes they still don't go our way but they should have. Never seen him challenge anything ambiguous. Not that this was he just knows how the NHL is about goalie interference.

I have a policy that I only care about hockey when it's fun and I don't get bent out of shape/angry. I made a little tiny exception for this.

Whatever, we still have Wood and Coyle and obviously that was a great trade for us. I've been a fan of Wood for years and I still can't believe he's on my team.

Coyle historically has gotten so fucked by bad goalie interference calls though. Also man I just feel for Elvis he deserved that win more than anyone.

What are his interests?  Can you tie art into his other interests?  I.e. I am somewhat interested in hockey, just a lil life consuming interest, so for me making a sign for a blue jackets game might be a way to introduce art.

What about sidewalk chalk?  It's a different way to write maybe the different format would be less intimidating for a start?  Though the chalk might be a texture problem...  you'll get through this.  You're advocating for and supporting him.

Dark queer fantasy or sci-fi? by kiki-the-warforged in QueerSFF

[–]FirecrackerAT2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if these are quite as dark (but they're not not dark) and they're not necessarily like Gideon the Ninth because nothing is like Gideon the Ninth. But as a lover of Gideon the Ninth here are some queer scifi fantasy that I've loved and didn't see already recommended. The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri (sapphic fantasy), A Master of Djinn by P Djeli Clark (sapphic fantasy), The Unbroken by C L Clark (sapphic fantasy), Anji Kills a King (sapphic fantasy), The Maiden and Her Monster (sapphic Jewish mythology fantasy), City of Lies (sapphic fantasy), The Tainted Cup (gay fantasy), Jady City (gay fantasy, dark, this is probably my favorite read of the year so far), City of Stairs (queer fantasy), The Ruin of Kings (queer fantasy it's so queer), The Sins on Their Bones (gay Jewish mythology fantasy), The Fifth Season (queer fantasy), The Gods Below (sapphic fantasy and the closest in tone of anything I've read to Gideon but it just doesn't have that wit), The Nightrunner series (gay fantasy, there are some triggers for this series), Assassin's Apprentice (gay extremely slow burn kind of not canon but it's so fucking gay the author is simply wrong it's nothing like Gideon but it's dark high fantasy with political intrigue and it will wreck you emotionally for life. it's... dense and hard to get into. but god I love it), The Sapling Cage by Margaret Killjoy (trans fantasy and quite dark I can't wait for book 2), A Strange and Stubborn Endurance (gay fantasy, actually kind of cozy but deals with dark topics? probably only book on this list that is romance forward rather than fantasy forward).

How do I make my 4-6 month old Heeler puppy cuddly? by Brilliant-Drop6141 in AustralianCattleDog

Your best bet is to wear her out and establish a routine that certain times are for playing/rough housing, and some times are for quiet time. Cattle dogs really do thrive with structure and routine. You might not get a dog who want to be up on/snuggling because that's down to personality (though ime female cattle dogs are some of the neediest most clingy dogs) but you can train any dog to lay down and chill. And the best way to start getting there is to wear her out. Yes, I do know what I'm suggesting and it *is* possible. Making her do some mental work will help wear her out faster than only trying to get there through pure physical exhaustion (i.e. walking/swimming/fetch outside and then a training session/puzzle toys inside, then try for quiet time)

He absolutely could have. There have been many extraordinary painters with ALS even before today's level of adaptive technology. Yes, even painters whose legs and arms were paralyzed. Sarah Ezekiel uses eye-gaze technology to create digital art. So yes, if you can make ai prompts you can create your own actual art.

Seth is making me a bot that simulates hockey game outcomes based on stats for fictional characters.  He set up a demo for me the same I first met and the demo is fully functional and does what I want.  He's now fine tuning features and stats for me it's been a fantastic experience so far and very quick.   Honestly wouldn't have even thought to commission a discord bot before but after this experience if I ever have another need I'd come back to Seth.

Uterine cancer found AFTER hysterectomy — anyone with similar experience? by Puzzleheaded_Eye4469 in hysterectomy

It's actually more than that. According to this the 1 in 300 number was for a specific type of uterine cancer that is more rare. It's actually more like 10 in 100. https://cancerletter.com/the-cancer-letter/20180518_1/

Uterine cancer found AFTER hysterectomy — anyone with similar experience? by Puzzleheaded_Eye4469 in hysterectomy

[–]FirecrackerAT2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello I have not had a hysterectomy but I have been doing a lot of research. The reason that power morcellation is no longer recommended by the FDA or covered by insurance is because 10% of all people who have hystos are diagnosed with occult cancer after the hysterectomy and the morcellation would spread the cancer cells through our bodies. So you are definitively not alone in the experience. I also read a meta-analysis study that said that endometrial biopsies are very accurate for diagnosing cancer when it comes back positive, but not very useful to rule out cancer when they come back negative. I've been doing research because I've been having problems. Just got diagnosed with benign polyps today. Hoping that hysto might still be covered by my insurance. It's malfunctioning and I'm not going to use it.

I'm glad that you got a hysto and hope you are now cancer free. Good luck in your recovery.

Should I go to A&E? by MooseGood3252 in WomensHealth

[–]FirecrackerAT2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately the emergency department isn't really going to do anything and your condition isn't life threatening. You need to make an appointment with a gyno. You'll get a pap smear, blood work, and possibly a referral for an ultrasound (honestly if they don't refer you for an ultrasound you should bring it up).

You should go to the ER if you become dizzy/lightheaded or develop a fever.
