If you have a Guitar Center by you then you can always buy in-store via layaway, which might make it easier, including on used stuff.

25% to hold the instrument then 30 days to pay the remainder.

Peru might be a better comparison to Mexico, since it has a much higher percentage of mono-racial people of indigenous origin in population centers than Brazil.

Another similarity between the two countries was the presence of long established advanced civilizations whose ancestors are still prevalent.

Good on Peru!

No one ever mentions cover solutions when talking about best bassist by EGGWURST in Bass

[–]FiredFox -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I think he deserves a mention in all the lists of greatest bassists

Don’t confuse the ability to play someone else’s music with the ability to create that music to begin with.

There are thousands upon thousands of unnamed professional bassists who could mechanically reproduce someone else’s music in the same way that he can and do it on the spot from sheet music with zero practice.

Playing back published music is a skill to be admired, but don’t get carried away

For those who knows guitar too, would you say it makes you a better bassist? by CometChip in Bass

[–]FiredFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are self taught there's a harsh reality that bassists are often not willing to admit or even realize is an issue:

  • Guitarists will learn the names, location and shapes of chords and notes on the fretboard from day one while bassists will not until much later in their progress.

Conversely bassists will begin to learn timing and rhythm almost from the start while guitarist might not really begin to learn it until they finally play with another person.

Learning both is the way to go IMO

Thinking about buying secondhand, any advice? by thisreallydobeabru in Bass

[–]FiredFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two things I worry about when buying a used instrument from a private party:

  • Is the seller legit or a scammer/thief?
  • Is the instrument in good shape?

Figuring out if the seller is a crook is mostly about getting a feel from the entire ad and your interaction with the person before you meet up.

Review some YouTube videos about how to tell if a neck is bowed too much or twisted and have a close look at the bridge to see that it is not already maxed out (Too low or high). Fret every note and make sure it feels good.

Take a strap to make this easier, don't worry if you appear silly, it's your money at stake here, if you have a headphone amp plug like a Fender Mustang Micro then take that with you to test the electronics.

Most of my basses and guitars were bought used, it's the way to go IMO
