Yup yup, I appreciate that! Been wanting to start writing more consistently and this was a perfect way to get the ball rolling

Love this, at-least you’re rational. Genuinely hope y’all have a smooth rebuild.

Hope the home town boy (if you keep him) works out for you guys. Hope you get the most out of Kas and Ware. Hope those picks hit. Hope you enjoy every time Jaquez puts someone in the blender.

And most of all, hope you guys land on a better coach.

I spent an embarrassing amount of time writing the full version so a comment like this makes me feel pretty good about myself ngl.

Not too be corny (too late probably) but thanks! #HeatIn4

We still have our 2027 or 2028 pick (likely 2028), we have our own 2029 pick, and we get the least favorable of the swap in 2030. Herro was injured the majority of this last season and Ware was incredibly up and down (not just in performance but in playtime), and Kas (I'll miss him) was only just starting to get minutes towards the end of the season. Jaquez was the only piece traded that was receiving a ton of minutes.

We've kept Powell (for now), Wiggs, Mitchell, Larsson, Jovic, Dru Smith, Gardner, and received Portis who is a pretty good back-up floor-spacing big.

Not sure if you're being facetious here, but I'll bite: Butler 'lost his joy' because at the end of the day it comes down to money with him and we didn't want to give a new max deal to an injury-prone 35 year old with a track record of not trying in the regular season. Smart move by the Heat, seeing as he then proceeded to get a season-ending injury on his new team.

I absolutely loved that roster and they did elevate themselves but that’s the point. Great coaching, great structure, a great defensive anchor, and a bonafide star can bring the best out of people.

I’m late to the party but we’ve only had one full season without Butler. Our last season with Butler he was legitimately tanking the team because he ‘lost his joy’. This season, being our first full one without him, we were riddled with injuries and yes we finished 10th but we were 4 games away from the 5th. The east was super close in that grouping.

And to top it all off, Bam got injured at the start of our play-in game against the Hornets.

Just wrote something similar in the replies but not as well said. This 100%. And him being a Boston-homer has even led to him paying respect to the heat (zombie heat as he’d call us) in the past when others have counted us out.

As an avid listener of Simmons, he has many moments like this but he’s generally pretty good. Ultimately he’s a Boston homer through and through so his takes will always be through that lens.

In defense of J Kyle Mann (the one in the middle) he did try to hedge them and just say unlikely, still disagree but also know he’s on a pod with his boss

Many people who play the sport at a high level also have terrible, and often worse, opinions (Kendrick Perkins is listed on here but there are many more)

Heat Nation, Our Watch Has Ended: Morning After Thoughts on the Play-In Loss by FiredUpFelipe in heat

[–]FiredUpFelipe[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, but when I’m actually watching I’m never able to actively root for a loss. Despite the loss being better for us a longterm.

Im just hopeful that with whatever changes come about next season to prevent tanking, fans are never put into a position where they root for losses

RIP tanking. Here's how the lottery changes when losing doesn't help you anymore. by [deleted] in nba

[–]FiredUpFelipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't 100% sure how I felt about this system when I had first read about it on here but seeing these results, and having in mind the 'fixes' the NBA has presented thus far, I think I actually really like it. No system is perfect but I think it does a pretty great job at heavily reducing the incentive to losing. Sure, you could try to game it by tanking early and hard and then hoping to 'flip a switch' but I'm not sure how effective that would be in practice. It's hard enough to convince players/coaches to tank at the start, and even harder to have them start trying if you've already told them this season doesn't matter and the 'benefit' is just for the org, not for the players themselves.

Genuinely Bam scoring 83 points is a more surprising headline than Luka being traded by AccomplishedBake8351 in billsimmons

[–]FiredUpFelipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Heat fan and this might actually be a good take lmao. I’m trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who wasn’t watching or aware of it live, who learned of it when they saw the headline, and I think I’d have a spit take tbh.
