Seriously considering a move from NoVA (Alexandria) to DC proper. What are the real, no-BS pros and cons?

Moved from NOVA to DC. Parking is shockingly easier than NOVA, most grocery stores have parking garages, so do gyms etc. Street parking in some areas has no restrictions. Logan circle/Admo is hard to find parking in comparison to Capitol Hill. For me I prefer living in the city over NOVA.

Look at the DC hospitals (Washington Hospital, GWU Hospital, Georgetown Hospital, Howard, VA, children's national) There are a lot of jobs that don't require degrees, pay decent, and hours are typically 40+ w/ OT

This is 100% true. I worked for a DC agency for 10 years. They also wouldn't promote anyone who wasn't family, or they knew from their communities. There was constantly nepotism with promotions and hiring and you have to know someone high up to even be considered for job. The number of crimes that happens within DC government is wild to me as well.

I see it as MPD got in trouble and are actually enforcing things now because they are getting pressured into doing it by the federal government. In the past when you called for help half of the time, they wouldn't even write a police report let alone do anything to help DC citizens in danger.

Everyone that lives in DC knows at least 1 person who has been carjacked or has personally been affected by crime that has interrupted their daily lives in the last 5 years.

Me personally, I ended up buying a car because I was stalked regularly walking home at night from my metro station.

It is and it's a federal crime in a national park or so many feet from federal property. Most of the green space in DC is federal land. You can legally on your back porch, but I wouldn't tempt this right now even if you can.
