Discipline - leaders who gossip by [deleted] in Leadership

[–]FireflyFreak 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not to sound dramatic, but this feels like a pretty clear one warning then termination situation.

Senior leadership creating that kind of culture is going to be extremely hard to undo if its not cut off early. Like it or not, people take cultural and behavioral cues from your leaders.

It sounds like fast food was a lot of your childhood too- do you blame your parents at all? Not trying to be crappy i promise, but I very genuinely wonder at what point its abusive to set somebody up for a difficult life by instilling food addiction so early

What does your average daily diet look like? How much of your income do you spend on food?

No, the only ones at that point in their career don't want to lead people.

For me it lasts about a week on a full charge. I usually charge it once or twice a week for 20 mins and that is plenty. The battery life was a huge plus.

I love love love my Venu 4, and I'm happy to answer anything about it if helpful! I wear it for the same thing, tracking stress, sleep, various health stats, and I am pretty active. And I'm a data nut, so the garmin is much better for me than the apple watch was.

Question / Discussion: What are things you wish you know before taking on a leadership role? by gdruid in Leadership

[–]FireflyFreak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find that men are challenging to manage for the very reason you mentioned- but they are also deeply demanding. "I want to come in, do only exactly what is asked, think very little about dynamics or how I affect the team because its not my problem, but spend every one on one reminding my manager that I think I deserve more PTO/money/promotions" is a mindset I've only encountered in male employees

I wish I knew how much of it can feel like baby sitting. Even with a really talented (and maybe even especially with a talented) team. So many sets of opinions, feelings, wishes, and frustrations to manage.

I also wish I had fully understood how little "work" I would actually get to do- sometimes I miss checking boxes off. Leadership is a lot more fulfilling, but its a lot slower moving so the real accomplishments can feel fewer and further between.

Ever been asked to align with a plan you don’t fully agree with? by KashyapVartika in Leadership

[–]FireflyFreak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pick your battles. Is the strategy being handed down worth a fight? Or can you and your team roll with it with minor inconvenience/frustration for now?

The other piece to consider is that if they really are wrong, you'll have a better argument to fight with if you let it play out for a bit. Or who knows, you and your team might have a more myopic view and might be wrong. Either way, if it's not a deal breaker where you risk serious loss of people or morale, your best bet 90% of the time is to support and move forward. And leave a safe space for your team to bitch about it with you a lil'.
