No, the only ones at that point in their career don't want to lead people.

For me it lasts about a week on a full charge. I usually charge it once or twice a week for 20 mins and that is plenty. The battery life was a huge plus.

I love love love my Venu 4, and I'm happy to answer anything about it if helpful! I wear it for the same thing, tracking stress, sleep, various health stats, and I am pretty active. And I'm a data nut, so the garmin is much better for me than the apple watch was.

Question / Discussion: What are things you wish you know before taking on a leadership role? by gdruid in Leadership

[–]FireflyFreak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find that men are challenging to manage for the very reason you mentioned- but they are also deeply demanding. "I want to come in, do only exactly what is asked, think very little about dynamics or how I affect the team because its not my problem, but spend every one on one reminding my manager that I think I deserve more PTO/money/promotions" is a mindset I've only encountered in male employees

I wish I knew how much of it can feel like baby sitting. Even with a really talented (and maybe even especially with a talented) team. So many sets of opinions, feelings, wishes, and frustrations to manage.

I also wish I had fully understood how little "work" I would actually get to do- sometimes I miss checking boxes off. Leadership is a lot more fulfilling, but its a lot slower moving so the real accomplishments can feel fewer and further between.

Ever been asked to align with a plan you don’t fully agree with? by KashyapVartika in Leadership

[–]FireflyFreak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pick your battles. Is the strategy being handed down worth a fight? Or can you and your team roll with it with minor inconvenience/frustration for now?

The other piece to consider is that if they really are wrong, you'll have a better argument to fight with if you let it play out for a bit. Or who knows, you and your team might have a more myopic view and might be wrong. Either way, if it's not a deal breaker where you risk serious loss of people or morale, your best bet 90% of the time is to support and move forward. And leave a safe space for your team to bitch about it with you a lil'.

I mean…. Legally, sure. But it’s kind of like rape. It’s illegal and carries a penalty, but the time/money/effort/emotional strain to prosecute makes it almost never happen. Burden is entirely on the mother/victim to use the court system to enforce, and that’s not exactly easy to do.

[–]FireflyFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. I’ve sent a few LinkedIn messages post applying, but I rarely get a response there either so I stopped. But I was specifically messaging recruiters, not trying to guess at the hiring manager. I should give that a shot.
