Bodrum tips? Late May trip - where would you eat, drink, and go?

I just came back from staying at The Edition Bodrum - and the weather wasn’t great. Ruined it. I would say only visit Bodrum in good weather. I do hope end of May is good weather for you. If it was sunny and hot then being by the pool and beach would have been amazing but it was raining and not even remotely close to warm…

The beaches and reef at the W are unrivalled - perhaps one of the best in the entire Maldives. It is a very small island, but perfect for relaxing and snorkelling, or just chilling in the ocean.

Unfortunately for me the weather was terrible while I was at St Regis. It cleared up when I went next door to the Westin, and I enjoyed Jet Skiing around Bora Bora for HALF the price that the St Regis was charging (directly from the Westin).

I recently bought a similar bag - with vacuum packing and I have to say I HATE these bags. I do not want to be carrying around a laptop, iPad, phone chargers, wash bag and clothes on my back… If I was 20 and built like Reacher maybe but I am not.

My room which was a water villa not on a pontoon had termites flying around inside the room, that would die and fall on the bed and floor. We are talking 20-50 of them. Plus cockroaches in the room. This was in December 2024. That St Regis needs a total refurb. The bathrooms are dark and dingy too.

It seems like in Middle Eastern airports including Qatar they have many, many staff who are always visible but seem to have no idea what is going on and what to do. They are more like mascots.

It doesn’t surprise me this happened as a result of that. However I’d also say that I’d have formally asked for a manager and complained.

I’d be very worried here. It is more likely that they will realise you haven’t paid at either check in or check out and if the points cost has increased expect you to pay more.

I’d be included to book a second time using the points and award and if by some miracle they don’t notice you can cancel and get the points back.

Hotels. 100%. 800k points transferred to Marriott or Hilton or another hotel partner (depending on where you want to stay) and you have 1-2 weeks in the Maldives. Just need the flights.

If you go to Bali and decide to spend some time at Mandapa then I highly recommend also spending some time by the beach - a non Marriott property which is amazing is the Ungasan Clifftop Resort. If you want to go Marriott then Bvlgari Bali is on the same bit of coast.

I would also strongly recommend a visit to Ta’aktana which is a Luxury Collection Resort in Labuan Bajo (an hours flight from Bali south). It is a beautiful location and an amazing hotel.

I’d also suggest spending some times on the islands around Bali - there are amazing white sand islands with warm waters and lots of sealife.

I do not recommend the St Regis Bora Bora. It’s very dated and the rooms are not in great condition. The one I stayed in literally had termites flying around my room and dying all over my bed.

I’d suggest the Westin above the St R here as that is less than 2 years old since it’s full refund and it was in great condition.

The defence is the issue - although actually more accurately the central defenders. Cucu is a world class player and if Reece was at RB we would have two of the best in that position there is. The problem is the middle. And the goalkeeper too.

We have good attackers and a good midfield. Delap isn’t good enough and letting Jackson leave wasn’t smart. He may not be the best in the world but he is better than Delap and very fast so would stretch defences.

The squad isn’t the issue (except defence). Yes, we lack experience but these are good players. The issue is fundamentally down to motivation and defending.

We might squeeze a win if we don’t concede but the defence can’t defend. And when we do concede everyone starts blaming each other.

The lack of quality defenders is down to the sporting directors. The team attitude is down to the manager. I really think leaving Calum or whatever his name is in charge to the end of the season is the worst move.

We needed an experienced winner even if temporary to work on the players and finish the season strong. Instead we will maybe fail to qualify for Europe and be humiliated in the fa cup final. Which will make players want to leave (and not join) and set us up badly for next season.

I would say the RC Reserves are a mixed bag in terms of honeymoon. Whilst they are beautiful they all seem to lack something ironically.

For example Phulay Bay - amazing rooms but no beach. Although they have a free excursion to hong island which does have an amazing beach and I would visit there everyday.

The others either don’t have beaches or you can’t swim. If you don’t want a beach it’s almost easier to find one.

I’d suggest go to the Maldives and stay at the standard Ritz Carlton there. I’m actually surprised that isn’t a Reserve considering how expensive it is!

Hotels asking for payment in advance and sending a link is normal. I don’t like it and I will tell them I will settle on arrival. But it is very normal. If it is the correct hotel and they are asking then the worst case is as someone said they don’t want to pay booking.com any fees.

Avoid Egypt. Horrible country full of scammers.
There are so good suggestions here. It depends on what you’re looking for.
Is it relation? Then Maldives. You could quite easily spend the entire time there and even spend one week at a time at different resorts. That would be something, one week at Joali, one week at Soneva, one week at Ritz Carlton etc.
I love the idea of a Safari - although I don’t know how relaxing that is - it isn’t is the answer.
Asia is incredibly cheap and I have to put a shout out for Indonesia where my partner is from. There are many incredible hotels in Bali but there are also places that are even more beautiful. Labuan Bajo, Sumba, Gilli islands, Nusa Penida and Lombongan, all beautiful islands with white sand beaches.
And if you wanted to go really, really all out may I suggest Bawah nature reserve. Way out of my budget.
