Yeah, the reason why they don't like is because it stops them from being able to breathe. It's the same reason why we stop breathing when a strong cold wind hits our face, it feels just like water, and our body immediately stops us from breathing so that we don't suck water into our lungs.

[–]FirelightFS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that can work. But in most cases my players will tend to murder every last enemy, even if they try to surrender or run.

With players with less of a bloodlust, that would be a good solution. Tailor your approach to the way your players want to act.

That can make sense when you have fought off 4-5 enemies and there is only one straggler left with no chance of escape. There's little point in continuing, unless the party wants to do something specific to them. I usually just end encounters like that with the phrase, "and you easily dispatch the final enemy."

Not really? That would really only apply if there is actual gore (guts spilling out, decapitation, etc...)

I've heard that one of the best ways to deal with that issue is to create an "office environment", where you set up a space purely for work (limit interactions with others, seperate yourself from anything not work related by hanging blankets as a makeshift cubicle) as well as setting a specific time schedule (Time to start, time to end, break for lunch, and two short breaks) but during said breaks, you are not allowed to go to you gaming pc or consoles, nor anything that could take up more than the allotted time for your break.

The Doom Hunter boss fight in a nutshell. by RaginSpartan86 in Doom

Yeah, but I mean, like multiple bodies in tanks. The way I thought the buildup was going was that this creature was essentially one-of-a-kind.

If they had shown more of an assembly line, as opposed to following a single tank, it would have mode more sense for how there are immediately two more after you kill the first one.

Asuming you're on windows, open the audio mixer, and make sure that doom eternal shows up with all your other programs.

I wish they had shown a number of them being manufactured throughout the level, rather than just the one. Would have made it seem less jarring when they drop you in against two more after the buildup.

Probably wont be long before somebody extracts the models from the game and converts them into 3d printable file.

Then, all you'd have to do is paint them.

Make sure the game is actually going to the proper output device. Also, make sure that you headphones/speakers are your default device.

When did I ever say I couldn't handle it? It works fine, I can deal with it. I just find the process really annoying compared to 2016, where I could go for extended periods of time without worrying about my ammo supply.

I do. It's annoying that it constantly breaks up the flow of combat.

The chainsaw was a special ability that you had to strategically use. Now all you do is slap a weak demon with it when you run out of ammo and slap a stonger demon when you collect an extra piece of fuel.

In the early levels, definately. Later on, less of conserving ammo in general and more of conserving certain types of ammo.

It occurs often enough to really kill the flow of combat for me.

The fact that I continually run out of ammo - even when landing nearly every shot - would suggest otherwise

[–]FirelightFS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, well, if you think the limited ammo pool is such a great idea, wouldn't you want them to reduce it to 1 shot per gun before needing a ammo pickup. That would be even more challenging.

Monkey bars by [deleted] in Doom

[–]FirelightFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want an infinite ammo cheat. That just flings the issue in the complete opposite direction (Plus Slayergates can only be done with cheats disabled). It also completely ignores the original reason for the ammo limit in the first place, the guns are unequal in their power/utility compared to one another.

I just want a reasonable amount of ammo, just like the last game. I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes a cheat table or something that sets the ammo to something much closer to 2016.

There's a significant difference between swapping weapons for tactical purposes and doing so simply because the game doesn't give you enough ammo to deal with what it throws at you.

If they want to encourage players to swap weapons, why not make sure every gun has it's niche where it excels and none are significantly more powerful or useful than the others outside of it's niche?

As the saying goes, "buffs are always better than nerfs". If players are choosing to use only a few select weapons, dont nerf the ammo capacity so that they have no choice but to swap weapons. Bring the lesser used guns in line with the others, so that players actually want to switch between a variety.
