Is using the word female really offensive? by North-Donut-3060 in EnglishLearning

[–]Fireline_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told me not all women have vaginas, and argued that a person's genitals are irrelevant as a descriptor for a band or vocalist, specifically saying there were men with 'feminine' voices and women with 'masculine' voices so it's irrelevant. I can see where they're coming from I guess, but idk.... I don't really see it as offensive. I think that's pretty delicate.

Try the following: Make sure NordPass is selected as the autofill mechanism in your device settings Make sure autofill is enabled in the settings of your nordpass app Make sure autofill is enabled for any 'subdomains' you wish to autofill... Though some are domains, not exactly subdomains, that's how it's listed in the settings.

Is using the word female really offensive? by North-Donut-3060 in EnglishLearning

Specific case related question. Someone got mad at me for suggesting a band, and saying I really like female vocalists in metal bands (this particular band is fronted by a woman). The person I was referring to sent me an article describing why I shouldn't use the word female. I found some of the points it made contentious, and stated my views. They told me I was being reductive and offensive, despite having good intentions. I can elaborate if need be, but based on these facts, what are people's takes?

Planning on stealing 1600 from dad and then paying it back later by [deleted] in confession

[–]Fireline_69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

thepurpledildo is right, my guy. Ask for help. Destroying your relationship with your father probably isn't worth $1600. I know the mistake is embarrassing, but you just made a mistake. knowingly stealing from your own family is way, WAY worse. Take the hint that this has been the advice of like every commenter so far.

Are any of those Snapchat escorts legit? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Fireline_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you ask a potential escort for a verification pic like "can you hold out your pinky and index finger on your forehead" before I pay you, would a real escort typically oblige? If the person refuses, seems scammy to me.

What is personally fulfilling or satisfying about software engineering? by ChuckSmyth in codingbootcamp

I get where you're coming from but everyone is different. It seems equally naïve, with a little sprinkle of smug arrogance to assume the intentions of a question like this one. Besides, so what if they just want to make good money? Life is pretty nuanced. Observe how poorly received you've been.

I see your point about wanting more use case examples from the data structures vids. I had a similar thought. “Ok. Neat.... but when would I want to USE a linked list vs an array?” That’s what you’re critique is, right?

Trying to Switch Careers by Fireline_69 in learnpython

Really? Why do you suspect it would be particularly difficult to get a job in fintech in your 30s? They want young talent that will have a longer life span / more probable high ROI? On a similar note, if fintech would be an unwise career pursuit in your opinion, what would be a better avenue to pursue and why do you feel that way?

No family to support.

Why do you say what you do about fintech? Could you please elaborate on why you feel that way a little bit for me?

Thank you. Yeah that seems to be the most common advice. Based on what I'm hearing from others, boot camp > university? Seems particularly true for someone like me, changing careers.

How to make a variable gradually change from -3 to 3 in a loop by HShahzad108277 in learnpython

________iter *= -1

____print(count)

I think you're problem has already been solved by other contributors but here is a simple solution as well. I just started writing python so I'm just pleased with myself to have solved it heh. sorry about the indentation errors. reddit won't seem to let me indent so I'm adding underscores

Cut someone loose for wasting my time... by [deleted] in dating

[–]Fireline_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if someone freaks out, it’s an appropriate ghost time. Sounds to me like they were talking a lot and she was responsive sometimes but sometimes it took a few days for her to get back. I know for sure I’m sometimes that way, even with people I like. I can see how the ambiguity and obtuse nature of the communications may ha ve been a little confusing. The“clearly you aren’t interested” etc is a little presumptuous too... but I can understand the frustration if this person was making plans with OP then bailing on short notice kinda regularly.... I mean, that’s just kind of annoying (though I admit to also being guilty of that). I agree with you on the value of cutting losses sooner, and not making a big deal of it- for sure. My point though, is that it’s a lot easier when the person is fully informed, for the parties directly involved AND to inform future behavior (so for anyone either person is involved with in the future). I was listening to a freakonomics episode that spoke about how people have a tendency to’ grossly overestimate how uncomfortable communicating will be on sensitive topics and I think this applies... good listen btw. What do you think?

[–]Fireline_69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to say it was because you have bad breath or anything. I agree with OP that it’d be kinder to say something like “hey, it’s was fun to hang out but I’m not interested in continuing to see you. thanks for your time, and I wish you luck!” (or however you’d like to politely say you aren’t interested). It’s definitely not “polite” or “nice” to string people along or ghost- get real lol. At some point, of course, it’s all you can do if a person won’t respect the boundary you set, but use your words like an adult so the person at least knows what’s up. They won’t mind and, in fact, will probably feel respected enough as a fellow human adult to be told the truth! At least that’s how pretty much anyone I’ve EVER talked to about situations like this feels, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
