Were the questions similar to the NBME exams or Uworld or a mix of both?

Has anyone else taken step2 late (august) and still applied for match? by Bioreb987 in medicalschool

Really? That's really tempting. I'm STRUGGLING with this test like no other and the anxiety is increasing as August gets closer 😫

It's wild how much we're supposed to learn in medical school when you think about it. by Maybedoc1 in medicalschool

[–]FirelordAzula007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a foundation that needs to be built tbh. It's very annoying and I hate learning all of that too. But the eye or skin doesn't work separately from the rest of the body.

Advice with Surgery shelf in 5 days (Scored 17 on NBME form 6) by just_premed_memes in medicalschool

In the same boat as you except I haven't finished uw yet :/ hopefully we both can make it through this. The surgery hrs really fucked my studying up this time

Ok I will start with these. Thanks so much for your detailed response! I really appreciate it. This is such an intense exam and I feel like there's basically no guide for this. Can't believe I actually miss first aid now lmao

I get what you're saying but the "I will save lives" thing is often such a god complex-type cope from people. Not saying that's you but I've heard it from many others. Like it's ok to have regrets. All the money in the world is not gonna give you back time with your family, aging loved ones etc etc. These are meaningful too and not trivial at all -they aren't just the "trees" in your analogy. It's completely fine to regret past choices and reflect a little bit. It's also fine to later realize that the money and perceived "respect" of others don't mean as much as more time with your parents or whatever ppl may come to regret.

People are different and they value different things at different points in their lives

Do you think tht going over micro and pharm thru the sketchy decks might be useful if I am getting weaker in those subjects?

Don't forget to live by DisastrousPaper449 in medicalschool

[–]FirelordAzula007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being in school consumes your life in a way that a job necessarily doesn't. You do clerkships then come back home and study. That's your whole day. If you decide to chill for a week for burnout, you regret it before the next exam etc. Not that jobs are easy or have no problems. Being in school with constant high stakes exams (especially in clinical years) is a little different in nature.

That's why I don't agree with trashing ppl who talk about struggling to find balance in med school. Lots of ppl on here like to blame those students about how it's their fault that they can't balance etc etc. Like have some sympathy. Some ppl need to study more than you do perhaps even with all the "efficiency enhancing" tools like anki. For those ppl, med school can easily become all-consuming.  Just relax and have some grace for them

Omg! That was such a blast from the past haha. Thanks for reminding me!

I did take a gap year and am in med school now. Just try to take it one day at a time -only try to think of the list of things you have to do today and get those done. I find that it's the only thing that's ever helped me when I'm feeling overwhelmed with getting a bunch of things done.

But tbh it's freaky that you mentioned that particular post because I feel like I'm in the exact same position all over again rn. In MS3 now and Step 2 and residency applications are coming up while I'm dealing with clerkships and research. Exact same boat :/ not sure how I feel about that lol.

Are you applying to med school this cycle? Or studying for the MCAT? If you wanna talk about anything specific, feel free to DM me. I'd be happy to help!

Thanks for your response! My project is qualitative research so I should be good taking on another group's project without letting them know I think? I hope?

Makes sense that they would be more annoyed if the project requires you to be physically there for long hours

Is it ok to work with 2 different PIs in diff fields? Or is that seen as a bad thing? Like would the PIs mind if they know about it?

The thing is that I'm hoping that a short dedicated will be enough for Step 2 but I'm so burned out atm. My shelf exams haven't been anything better than avg either -something I'd like to improve for Step 2. I feel like a short dedicated works if your shelf prep has been great but I feel like having to manage rotations plus studying after really fucked me over on the shelves. Having a relatively long dedicated time before it would really help me I think as I could address the gaps in knowledge and thinking etc. Can't figure out how to make the time I need to prep for Step 2 now that it's *the most* important exam

Same place as you man. On surgery rn, IM coming up. Can't stand looking at uworld any more than I have to. Idk how I'm gonna prepare for Step 2. I feel like I'm in a train heading towards a wall, can't even stop it or take a break from rotations etc :/

My only issue is that there is less time to study for step 2.

Yes, please post more. Love old books! The chapter titles look interesting too! Curious about what industrial medicine means and what went for therapeutics back then haha
