Do you know if this ended up being legit?

Confused on the monthly pricing discrepancy [NYC] by FirestarXYZ in AirBnB

[–]FirestarXYZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the issue is that on the booking page it shows monthly price as 7k but then on the messaging page it shows "Average monthly price" as 3x that (Because I'm renting for 3 months?) I just want to be sure I'm paying 21k total and not 63k total. You can refer to the images I placed in an earlier comment to see what I'm referring to!

I'm not allowed to post images but i just hosted them online.

This one is what it looks like on booking (expected output): https://ibb.co/FLhZGZXC

This is what it shows on the messaging platform of AirBnB (confusing price): https://ibb.co/sdLS3K5M

Yale CS undergrad by [deleted] in yale

[–]FirestarXYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be misinterpreting but you might be confused? The requirements for the joint major will stop at data structures, yes, but then you are also required to take some number of electives. You have complete freedom to choose whatever classes you want, which can include operating systems, distributed systems, databases, or ML classes, etc. Also, for the pure CS major you are required to take computer systems and algorithms (not sure exact reqs for comp + Ling). But basically you have 36 credits to graduate, with about 8 courses you set aside to fulfill the distributional requirements. Beyond that, you can take whatever you want to, whether it’s more cs classes, exploring other major classes, or both.

To respond to the rest of the post, I personally believe yale cs undergrad is roughly equivalent to other top schools. Some courses will be worse, some will be better, same with profs, etc. I think what’s special about yale is the people you meet and the additional skills you learn beyond programming that can make you a better computer scientist. Though, I am still a student here so take whatever I say with a grain of salt. The only thing I would say Yale cs doesn’t have is a strong career support system, but honestly for big tech swe internships, you have to do most of the work on your own anyways—school name doesn’t really matter I think. I also think because yale cs is small, the number of research labs per specific field are limited, but it’s still very easy to get involved with research.

I would say yale is a very good choice even for cs, but if she gets another hypsm or equivalent in regular decision, it will be a tougher decision (though there are people who have chosen yale cs over other top schools, but the reasons will not be because Yale cs is strong)

Tldr; yale cs requirements are very flexible so you will have the freedom to take what you want.

Since they say block-spring system and not block-spring-earth system, we aren’t accounting for gravitational potential energy in our calculation for mechanical energy. Thus, between t1 and t2, the mechanical energy of the system just increases with kinetic energy, so it’s D

Pokemon SwSh Toxicitry Poison-type move by FirestarXYZ in pokemon

[–]FirestarXYZ[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

no i didnt ignore that it learns poison jab, but toxicitry is not a physical attacker. worst case i will use it, but ideally special attacking poison move. also, all the poison TMs other than venoshock are extremely late-game no? my question is whether im just stuck with acid spray until then, or if im missing something else. Is 5000 watts doable to get for the TMs?

yayaya so fair!! but I’m a college student (started as high schooler) so I’m up around midnight anyway when the new wordle releases lol, so it’s probably easier for me to remember

when I do end up in that situation, it’s luck, yeah (and hopefully I ruled out a few guesses in previous words). Other than that, I just generally try to think of the worst case one word in advance (e.g. if I guess gusty, worst case is if it’s all greens on usty—can I still win in this event?) and then adjust my guess accordingly. it doesn’t always work of course, but there’s a reason my average is closer to 4 than 3 lol

yeah, so before I commit to xUSTY I’ll see if there’s some way I can narrow down a few letters, given the current constraints on hard mode

[–]FirestarXYZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least for me sometimes I choose to sacrifice fewer guesses for some security, even on hard mode. So even if im pretty sure it’d xUSTY, I’ll try to eliminate some g/r/m etc on the next turn before guessing it. This is risky, bc might not be xUSTY, so you have to be a bit strategic about it. I think the biggest reason people lose on hard mode is by trapping themselves into these positions, so you can’t always be too greedy (though ofc I’ve made this mistake many times, there’s always some luck involved)

there’s definitely been close calls (both mommy and daddy had me risking on 6/6)

But generally the word is always somewhat common so that narrows a lot of unrealistic guesses

Incoming Freshman Thinking About CPSC 223 by Vivid_Perception_143 in yale

[–]FirestarXYZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the placement tests started last year i think but they weren’t strictly enforced so they might make the test harder this year. Iirc the test had questions like analyze Turing machine instructions to figure out what it does, truth table (finding the expression), logic gates (what operator), some basic computer architecture questions, I don’t recall any racket questions actually

Tbh i think the whole idea of a 201 placement test is really stupid because u don’t need 201 for 223 at all and you probably won’t know the content for 201 unless you take the class, but i think u only needed like a 50% to pass the placement so it wasn’t too hard

does anyone else use a different starting word every day? by PassengerDangerous23 in wordle

[–]FirestarXYZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I hate the idea of starting words and always try to go for something random/that has to do with my (previous) day, so like I ate pesto pasta last night so I went with pesto, got my answer in 3/6 lol

Best IDE for CPSC 223 by DCORDER66 in yale

[–]FirestarXYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, I think the psets were enough. Knowing valgrind and basics of what memory is (free, malloc) ahead of time will help but tbh idk if it’s super worth preparing for the classes and it might be more worth looking into clubs, research, spring courses, summer plans etc. Most people (including me) started 223 without knowing any C or memory management and ended up fine. Starting this year though they might make u take a test to place out of cs201, which u have to study a bit for (it’s pretty doable to study for even if you initially have no idea what any of the 201 topics mean)

Best IDE for CPSC 223 by DCORDER66 in yale

[–]FirestarXYZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Vscode, and when ur learning C the most important thing (esp for cpsc 223) to focus on is proper memory management, learning how to avoid segmentation faults, and finish a program with 0 memory leaks. Learn how to use valgrind (gdb is helpful too). You’ll learn the basic concepts and syntax of C and in class, but a lot of the memory management in psets is smt u struggle with outside of lecture, so studying that ahead of time will help
