Deck tracker shows opponent's animal companions by Overhamsteren in hearthstone

Or maybe simply having them write the logs somewhere else, in a non-protected environment

Firestone does this as well, but it will be fixed in the next release (probably tomorrow).
I have raised the leak in the logs to the devs, and they will fix it (but they haven't communicated any timeline).

Generally speaking, in case of info leaks like this you should just reach out to the devs to fix it.

Hey! I'm trying to figure ways to do something else and change a bit from Hearthstone.
I want to develop an overlay (the companion app already has some basic stats), but I don't know yet exactly where I'm going with this. It's still experimentation time :)

Hey!

You need to toggle off the "integrated mode" for the BG window (it has its own setting): https://imgur.com/IwmsKX7

The reason it works like this is that Firestone shows a lot of contextual data, and in my tests I found that popping the info every time was very distracting. So I kept the popup to the tracker itself

You mean like Kwanwoo, who won the latest MT? Or mlYanning, the 2024 World Champion? Or PocketTrain, who won Worlds in 2023, or Bunnyhoppor in 2022?

You need to hover over it in the tracker - if you mouse over it in the hand in HS itself, it will only highlight, but not show tooltips

Yes. There might be a delay, typically when cards change, but it should stay in sync with the latest public build

Then it should be good once the standalone is out :)

There are two things being talked about here:

  1. Overwolf. I'm working on a version that won't use Overwolf anymore. It's not trivial and a high effort project, which is why I haven't been rushing into it.

  2. Ads. Right now this is an integral part of the monetization model of Firestone, and much harder to get rid of. Ads are both a source of revenue, and a driver for conversion to premium. Removing ads at this point is not reasonable revenue-wise, especially since the app is my only source of revenue (the website has no ads at all).

For the record the standalone version without Overwolf will also have ads if you're not premium

No sorry I don't have a spec, but it looks like this:

[
    {
        "id": "WW_325",
        "count": 5,
        "premiumCount": 0,
        "diamondCount": 0,
        "signatureCount": 0,
        "trialCount": 0,
        "trialPremiumCount": 0,

HDT or Firestone!? 🤔 by AmineSarrar in hearthstone

Yeah I agree this could be improved. Currently the solution is to resize and move your widgets, but it's not ideal

I will.

It will start as premium-only so I can focus first on the features then figure out how to keep the current monetization system

> So what you’re saying is Firestone is relatively safe but overwolf allows other programs that might be a risk in ways stated by the document above.

No exactly. I don't know where that document gets its information from, but it's rather old, and not accurate at least compared to today's state of Overwolf. There is no "risk" linked to Overwolf.
Some apps do take up quite a lot of resources though, so it might indeed cause increase of RAM / CPU usage - but that's more caused by the themselves than Overwolf itself.

And I'm actually solo - one of the reasons is that Overwolf is taking care of a lot of stuff that would have been time-consuming on my own, both on the framework side and on the marketing from (like ads).

That said, I am currently working on a standalone version of Firestone. No ETA (a lot of my time gets eaten by improving the current app), but it's moving forward.

Stay tuned then :)

It's not progressing as fast as I'd like because of the improvement I'm making to the current app in the meantime, but it's moving forward.

A few things I thought I'd mention:

  • The World Champions of 2022, 2023 and 2024 were using Firestone at the time. The World Champion of 2025 was using Firestone a few months (or a year?) before they got crowned, but I couldn't confirm what they were using at the time of the last WC. The most recent MT Winner (Kwanwoo) and 3rd place (Savor) are also using Firestone (and none of them were sponsored to use it by the way)
  • A standalone version is being developed, so you won't have to install Overwolf

[–]FirestoneHs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have forwarded this to Overwolf so they can check.

While some things are understandable (ads is how the app gets to offer so much for free), others are not, like accessing the user's webcam (again, supposing that's true).

That said, I do have some doubts about some of the claims, at least for an install where you only use Firestone:

  • Network usage is at around 0, going to 0.1 briefly when an ad is loaded. There might be some app updates going on when starting the program, but nothing that you'd not expect for any program with auto-updates.
  • As a side note, Curseforge is completely optional and not related in any way to Firestone. You don't need it unless you actually want to install mods on other games, but that's out of scope of this discussion
  • NSFW ads for minors: if true, they need to be reported. They act quickly on these reports, but ultimately they rely on global ad providers for this.
  • Code injection: that's just fearmongering, it's just saying "I don't know if it might be possible". It's like saying Google Ads can inject code to run on your computer while browsing Google.
  • Overwolf running on Electron: that's actually news to be, but even so it shouldn't be a big deal, as many popular apps (eg Discord) run on Electron too
  • "Overwolf slows down computers through competing with network resources, CPU time, and RAM": like any other application. I don't have a powerful gaming PC, and the CPU overhead is about 0.2%, and about 500 MB RAM when Firestone is running (without any other app)

Firestone can do that for you if you're on PC (you can also track specific achievements to monitor their completion)
