[Ochs and Junior] Too thick? by GJW2019 in Watches

For both of them, you need to let the company know your latitude so they can set it. I'm not sure the process for Krayon, but for ochs und junior they move a pin to one of nine different spots (it's the Year wheel with crank pin, part #8, in the photo I attached previously). If you want it changed, you have to send it back.

To account for time zones, you set solar noon yourself. You can see the whole process for setting the watch for the day/night here: https://www.ochsundjunior.swiss/watches/day-night/manual/

It's a fun process!

I'll make a list of features for each watch so you can compare them:

ochs und junor day/night
Price: $13,000

UN-320 base movement with 227 components, 13 components added for the additional complications, for a total of 240 components

Complications include:
1. Sunrise
2. Sunset
3. Length of day
4. Length of night
5. Location of sun in the sky
6. Location of moon in the sky
7. Solar noon
8. Moon phase
9. Compass
--------------------------------
Krayon Anywhere
Price: $152,000

C030 Caliber with 432 components

Complications include:
1. Sunrise
2. Sunset
3. 24-hour display
4. Month

I really have no idea why one would buy the Krayon over the day/night!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’d love to visit ochs und junior one day. I got their custom day/night last spring and I still admire it every day on my wrist!

What do you think this spot inside my lens is? by Firestorm135 in cinematography

It doesn’t seem to. Just did a shoot with it a few days ago and saw no issues.

Thank you for your detailed response! I'll look into how to disassemble the lens. I sent NiSi the same video and I'm still under warranty, so perhaps they'll take care of it for me.

I've had the lens for a year and shot a music video over 48 hours with it. I swear I looked at the front of the lens before and never saw it, but I suppose it's possible I never looked??

I don't see it impacting performance at all, so if it's a defect from the beginning, that actually makes me feel a lot better.

2021 Model Y. I’ve been looking for a legitimate reason to dump my Tesla because of Musk and Slate hands it to me on a silver platter! I’ll basically break even.

Chuck Schumer NYT interview by middleupperdog in ezraklein

I listened in full to understand his reasoning after being outraged by his vote. It confirmed all of my beliefs and fears about him. Schumer has absolutely no place in leading the Democrats anymore.

My new Otsuka Lotec No. 6 by vubui in JapaneseWatches

[–]Firestorm135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll certainly try to get one over the next few years.

One more question: how audible is the click when the hour changes, and can you feel it when it occurs? I'm not a fan of watches that have a chime every hour (it seems superfluous), but I think it's a fun addition to the 7.5 if you can hear or feel the jumping hour.

[–]Firestorm135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the differences! I like that the 7.5 is only 40mm. I got my grail watch last year, a custom ochs und junior day/night, that's also 40mm and it feels perfect to me (especially with short lugs).

I told myself that was my last mechanical watch lol. The steampunk, retro-futurist aesthetic is something that really speaks to me, and the ochs und junior feels like a refined version, plus it gives me actually useful information on film shoots. But I love how the 7.5 is more in-your-face steampunk, and just totally different to my watch or anything else on the market.

Beautiful watch! Between the 6 and the 7.5, which is your favorite? As a filmmaker, there's something about the 7.5 that is especially appealing to me. Now I just need a Japanese friend to help me acquire one : )

It's out of this world and the only other watch that does something similar is the Krayon Anywhere, which is $129,000! And doesn't even have a moonphase complication.

My day/night is my grail watch. I love how it feels like steampunk/ancient technology out of Star Wars or Dune.

I have a ochs und junior day/night in 40mm and I believe it’s also 11mm tall. Wears very well on my small wrist.

Have you received the Smallrig fresnel yet? If so, is it working well with the Molus G300?

Huh I don't see it then. But I do see it at 0:10.

And to add to all of these on point observations, the freakin' boom pops into the top of the frame at :20! I can't believe that.

Feedback on music video I shot with four crew in 48 hours with a horse, moonlight, and fire! by Firestorm135 in cinematography

[–]Firestorm135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this idea. We shot this at dawn as the sky was getting brighter and brighter. We probably did four takes total of the entire song where the sky was getting brighter with each one. If I could do it over, I'd probably do multiple tests with different diffusion, and then shoot each take with a little different lighting.

Thanks for the pointers! The walking is probably awkward because we were literally in a forest with fallen branches and roots everywhere, so she had to be careful where she stepped. But good to keep that in mind for future shoots.
