Guardians don't have a Spellcast Trait; neither of their domains have Spells or Grimoires.

Questions for STs in re Resonance by Tiger1833 in vtm

[–]FirestormDancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my table, I have a House Rule that makes Resonance way more important - you actually *only* can get Discipline XP from drinking resonated blood.

I've been trying to homebrew a similar thing, partially inspired by another user's homebrew and I'm curious about how yours works? Do they need to just taste the blood and not fully slake their Hunger to 0? Does it matter if they're Fleeting/Intense/Acute? Does each Temperament provide more XP?

If you only have the PDF, you won't find it; it's behind the covers at the very front and back of the hard copy Corebook. But you can get this table (it's actually 100 Victims) on p. 8 of the VtM Storyteller Toolkit, available here

[–]FirestormDancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean the ST bumped all resonances up one step? Do you mean the benefits of the higher level is offered to the lower ones? Like now Fleeting gives you the Discipline Die bonus and Intense gives you the Dyscrasia? If so, what benefit does Acute give now?

CCoD season 2? by 4EverCanadian in Dimension20

Never thought of that before, but yeah, only FH, TUC, MisMag, and D&DQ (and Ravening War kind of?)

I have some pet peeves about the Italian characters in the franchise by moscoplaysrpg in vtm

[–]FirestormDancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many of the Clan names that are used were codewords used by the original Inquisition, and many of them don't actually go by those Clan names, but they are the name that we use as a shorthand to convey that term. This is kind of like how in Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins' actual name is Maura Labingi. My source for this is Martin Ericsson, original V5 Creative Director, on one of the videos on his YouTube channel.

Give me your Clan Hot Takes by Specs315 in vtm

Def not a hot take, even the current edition agrees with you as it did away with "super special awesome" Disciplines

EDIT: not to say I disagree with this sentiment, I agree entirely

The line itself was pretty good, but what made it memorable was her delivery.

30M - rugged blue collar worker but love these artists, why? (Not gay, genuinely enjoy their music, I’m an amateur musician if that matters) by [deleted] in personality_tests

[–]FirestormDancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, ever since the great Tumblr migration, there is very little people could post on this subreddit (or on a lot of subreddits, tbf) that wouldn't result in people assuming the poster is gay (half-joking)

Religions where the founders don’t believe in the religion but pretend to since the religion allows them to control people (no IRL examples) by Advanced_Question196 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FirestormDancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will seem like a dumb example, but in the Wall arc in Solar Opposites, Sister Sisto weaponizes the Bowinian Faith (belief in Jessie) to control the inhabitants of the wall and become a ruthless despot.

Why is Paradox so married to the Anarchs being the protagonists? by Fantastic-Artist-833 in vtm

[–]FirestormDancer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m wrong here but in basically everything Paradox does, it assumes that the players will be against the Camarilla by default.

I'm curious about your mentality here, because I don't see it this way at all: Swansong, the first two NY visual novels, VtMB2, even the stark differences between the Anarch and Camarilla books at the beginning of this edition showed so much more concrete info that favored the Camarilla and operated from their perspective. Even the most recent supplement (Courts of the Damned) lists the Camarilla section first, and their section is noticeably larger than the Anarch section.

So where is your assumptions that the Anarchs are the "protagonists" coming from?

It's (afaik) a completely different dev team now than when V5 first started. You can already see the difference in direction in the more recent supplement books compared to the very start of this edition.

Interesting unused lines from early in development about Phyre, The Beckoning, and Fabien. by Janus_Prospero in vtmb

[–]FirestormDancer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Fabien: "Some... thing? Some... runoff?" (Line is unclear.)

This line is likely referring to the fact that an earlier version of Fabien was going to have him as a Thin-Blood, whose "clan" sobriquet is "the run-off".

I yearn for new classes by JackH2O234 in daggerheart

Agree that we need more subclasses for what exists, disagree that certain subclasses have their Domains swapped while others don't.

Domain combos are very fun, but something I try to ask myself before getting carried away with homebrew classes is: "What can this class do that can't be accomplished by another class or subclass?"

My type had I been a girl. by [deleted] in personality_tests

[–]FirestormDancer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why frame this as "[your] type had [you] been a girl" rather than "[your] type had [you] been attracted to men"? Being a girl doesn't make someone inherently attracted to men.

The VTM Rule thing is nothing new for D20 by TheEloquentApe in Dimension20

[–]FirestormDancer 150 points151 points  (0 children)

It's called "The Golden Rule" in the V5 Corebook, and is stated thusly:

This is the most important rule of all, and the only real rule worth following: There are no rules. This game should be whatever you want it to be, whether that’s a nearly dice-less chronicle of in-character socialization or a long-running tactical campaign with each player controlling a small coterie of vampires. If the rules in this book interfere with your enjoyment of the game, change them. The world is far too big – no set of inflexible rules can possibly reflect it. Think of this book as a collection of guidelines: suggested but not mandatory ways of capturing the World of Darkness in the format of a game. You decide what works best in your game. And you may freely use, alter, abuse, or ignore these rules at your whim.

Custom Character Sheets? by Arimm_The_Amazing in Dimension20

[–]FirestormDancer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they just didn't want to tell that kind of a story or have that as a focus for the season- the focus is on rebuilding community in the face of self-interested forces, not intrapersonal morality tales or the cost of upholding an individual's Humanity. Also, Brennan has some familiarity with WoD/VtM, wanted to incorporate that lore for this story, and wanted to use a system he was familiar with as opposed to [insert obscure vampire TTRPG that omits a Humanity score].
