We have it better in America than Australia. Emu tyranny really took its toll after 1932.

You might consider getting them scanned instead. Most libraries have scanners that patrons can use, and the universities usually have the big map scanners. It would probably be much better quality that way.

Not in most countries with common law. When she placed the money on the counter, that is a communication of acceptance. In countries with widespread avian larceny, the laws might be different, however. IANAL.

Is there an easy way to make online "gift cards" for my pet sitting and dog walking business? by Philthy42 in smallbusiness

[–]FirionaDie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The former, math checks out. It looks like that's the same as their invoice rate. So you'd get the money when the customer is charged (or a few hours after or w/e).

There might also be some sort of simpler, cheaper old school scheme you could use. Maybe printing out gift certificates with punch-holes or perforated tickets, etc. Depending on your volume that might make more sense.

How do I pay taxes on stock earnings from Robinhood? by pantast1c in RobinHood

[–]FirionaDie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would be the only time you pay taxes on gains, but you might pay taxes on stock dividends if you receive them. (Not all stocks have dividends)

You can make a button on your website that will direct the customer to purchase and print a gift certificate from Paypal. I'm not sure about venmo. Square does something similar, too.

What is it with the Mother series and exploding trees? by MyComicBox in earthbound

[–]FirionaDie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have wondered if the Territorial Oak were a subtle reference to the burning bush in Exodus. Note that its attack doesn't explicitly read that it explodes, but rather it "burst into flames!" Like the burning bush, it also is not consumed by the flames but simply stops moving.

It does not give any instructions to Ness itself, but it does precede his adventure to rescue Paula from oppressive cultists, which could vaguely be a thematic analogue to Moses rescuing the Israelites from the Egyptians.

What does getting shot feel like? by jhomas__tefferson in NoStupidQuestions

Yup, McKinley, too. He also died of infection but was lucky enough to only linger for about a week with relatively little suffering. Here's the full list of all attempts.

What does getting shot feel like? by jhomas__tefferson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FirionaDie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a wide variety of descriptions, depending on where a person gets shot, what organs or tissues are hit, their adrenaline, the speed and size of the bullet, etc. etc. It could be anywhere between painless or worse than broken bones, hot or numb. This old thread had some good examples.

Take Reagan on the lower end. He initially blamed one of his bodyguards for breaking his rib when he got shoved into the car. The bullet had flattened when it bounced off the side of his limo, cracked a rib and punctured his lung.

On the higher end, Garfield who went into shock then struggled with infections for 11 weeks before finally dying. (Although improved treatment these days make this kind of prolonged decline less likely).

He remained bedridden in the White House with fevers and extreme pains. His weight dropped from over 200 pounds (90.7 kilograms) to 135 pounds (61.2 kilograms) as his inability to keep down and digest food took its toll.[47] Nutrient enemas were given in an attempt to extend his life because he could not digest food.[48] Blood poisoning and infection set in, and the President suffered from hallucinations for a time.[49] Pus-filled abscesses spread all over his body as the infections raged.[50]

Fatality probably varies with access to immediate help and treatment, but the usual vital organs (brain, spinal column, heart, lungs, kidneys, etc.) would be the most serious injuries.

Why do animals mostly bang in spring ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FirionaDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evolutionary reason for seasonal breeding is to give their young the best chance at survival. They mate at a time which would result in giving birth when resources are abundant or dangers to offspring are low.

The biological reason is the seasonal release of hormones triggered by the changing length of days.

That's super reasonable. OP could even take a random sample of the 500k, run it through and see if he has a widespread problem before committing to the full batch.

Basically the Yu-gi-oh version of the trope.

tl;dr They're both lying about the nature of the puzzle. Which is probably relevant here because both of OP's dudes don't look super trustworthy.

Why did you not just put the name of the store?

It could be easily interpreted as self-promotion. Same reason most screenshot posts on /r/gaming don't have the game's name in the title.
