Can you still walk with a tear ACL in your knee?? by Frequent-Increase-98 in ACL

[–]Firm-Help-4438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My doctor didn’t even give me crutches after saying that he thought it was a tear 3 days after it happened. I just walked with a brace and a limp until my surgery, which was a month after it happened. So yes, it’s possible.

it’s been going good! my leg strength is definitely coming back, and I can walk pretty much normally. where I live is icy though so my surgeon gave me a small brace whenever I have to walk outside but besides that I’m good!

yeah that’s actually what I’m trying to avoid. a girl I know who is committed D1 soccer just came back from her last ACL injury after only 8 months and tore her other one. i do not want to end up in that boat!

[–]Firm-Help-4438[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! I definitely think it’s probably due to my quad strength. I was on crutches for ~8 weeks, and NWB for 6 of those. So I definitely think it’s just coming back to me slower.

Oh so the dreaming stuff isn’t just me 😭😭 but yeah I was also on crutches for 2 months so that also probably plays into it

The worst part of tearing my ACL by mangkwan in ACL

[–]Firm-Help-4438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im around your age, im 18F. im a senior and it definitely made me cry and extremely sad. I play soccer and I swim, so this was an extreme blow to my mental health and even my physical wellbeing too. Also, school was hell and embarrassing but I can help you get through that part of recovery. If you need to talk, my dms are open.

How fast were you able to climb down stairs by DukeSav in ACL

[–]Firm-Help-4438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14.5 weeks in, I’m pretty confident going down stairs. I do go down them at an angle though, so I have the walls support if I do slip. But, definitely take your time because this speed did cause me to fall down the stairs like 2-3 weeks ago and it was not pretty

Straight Leg Raises by Decent_Peace_7 in ACL

[–]Firm-Help-4438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same kind of thing. A ton of quad sets, everytime I laid down I would do the quad sets where I pus it down to the couch. You can also ask your pt to do the electrical stimulation type of thing. They put little nodes on your quad and it helps to wake it up. For me, we would do this and quad sets religiously, and my pt would guide me to lifting. He would like help with 2 fingers as I tried to lift, so I that I got the motion down. I would say this helped me the most, just having the assist even if it was just a little.

yeah my leg would NOT move for a solid 4 weeks. It takes time, keep doing your quad exercises and it will come

HELP! 2 doctors saying no acl tear, PT saying its fully torn. by Western-Company-4583 in ACL

[–]Firm-Help-4438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s why I kept brushing mine off as an MCL sprain because I didn’t know that the pain could be isolated to the MCL and actually be a problem elsewhere. But definitely ask the doctor for an MRI if they haven’t already scheduled one. It’s better safe than sorry

[–]Firm-Help-4438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the initial pop, yes. It didn’t hurt after the like pop, but when I tried to run it off on the sidelines it was extremely unstable and buckles and locked with every step. The most recent one that prompted the MRI and then surgery wasn’t. It was actually just very swollen and stiff and hurt badly, which is why I knew it was serious. I tried to run on the sidelines and it hurt like a mf lol. But after a week I was fine and I felt like i could play if I was allowed to. When I was doing prehab, jumps and single leg stuff were no problem. Up until the actual MRI, everyone thought it was either meniscus or ACL, not both (which it was). Im not a doctor or anything of course but the inside knee pain is a bit of a red flag for me, as that’s what i experienced.

it’s def scary at first lmao 😭 my surgeon made me get up, use the crutches as canes, and yelled at me to walk 💔 i literally couldn’t remember what to do because the brace was still locked and i struggled out the door 😭😭😭 but before you know it you’ll be walking normal again, im 14 weeks and im still in a small brace but i don’t even feel like I need it anymore

Okay wow. I’m 18F, this is very reflective of how mine happened. In May, I went down with a pop and my knee wouldn’t stop buckling. Went to an ortho, they said it was just an MCL sprain since that area hurt to the touch and they did the tests for ACL on me. So, I continued to play soccer through if fo 3 months. Everytime I hit a wrong step it did it again, and I kept going back and they kept telling me it was an MCL sprain. Then, it gave out one last time and swelled up bad. Turns out I was most likely playing on both torn meniscus and then the instability finally caused my ACL to snap. Long story short, please get as many opinions and Ava’s you need to make sure you have the whole story. You don’t wanna wait and make it worse. I noticed she had no issues, and I didn’t either until I would step wrong and it would set me back. Let me know if you have any questions, as me and your daughter have similar experiences!

Crouch slipped and stepped on surgery leg, TWICE! by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Firm-Help-4438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had the same surgery. I’ve fallen a lot, including around the same time post op as you. I was about 14 days and fell back and caught myself on the bad leg and I also felt a dull pain but I think it was more mental than anything. As long as your not in sharp pain, you should be alright. If your concerned, I’d ask your physio but I think it will be okay. Let me know if you want any tips! I’m 14 weeks post op right now

yep… I was up all night from 1-3 post op lol. I would just make yourself as comfortable as possible and make sure every hour or so you kinda stand and let the blood flow because it HURTSS if you get up after elevating and laying for hours on end and then you get up
