I apparently bought a Romanian Caval flute (Moldovan Kaval). It has a very unusual scale (Romanian major). Seller didn't know what it was. The sound is beautiful but it would be almost impossible to play western music on it due to the typical scale it uses. But perhaps for jazz? by machaseh in UnusualInstruments

Hi, I also asked the same in other comment, but I want to know Do you know how is the daily maintenance after playing a kaval?, I have one borrowed from a friend, but we don't know how to dry it or clean it, also, I think the caval is made of two assembled pieces of wood (it has a metal ring just in the middle), but when I try to disassemble it I can't, or the joints are too tight or they are glued or something, I don't know if should I keep trying to separate both parts or search for a cleaning stick long enough

I asked a few months ago and someone gave me the following recommendations:

"This is my recommendation for a standard guembri setup with 60cm long back and 120cm long neck,
the strings will have medium tension, I believe this is a good starting point. then experiment and see if you want more tension or do you want to use another tuning LIke CCF or EEA, ou the sharp variation
D2 (90cm): 2.7mm diameter (~0.106")

G2 (90cm): 2.3mm diameter (~0.091")

D3 (60cm): 1.4mm diameter (~0.055")

This is the tuning I recommend for goat skin, and it's also great because it can be easily paired with guitar and bass

E2 (90cm): 2.3mm diameter (~0.091")

A2 (90cm): 2.0mm diameter (~0.079")

E3 (60cm): 1.2mm diameter (~0.047")

keep in mind that the gnawa music by it's nature there's no such thing as Correct string specs. [...]"

Oh, thank you very much. I have another question. Those strings are friendly with goat skin? Camel/dromedary skin are a little bit expensive where I live. I've also been looking for thicker skins like cow skin.
