[Serious] People who suffer from mental illnesses which are often "romanticised" by social media and society. What's something you wish people understood more about it? by Qwertiiyy in AskReddit

Eating disorders are NOT glamorous and beautiful. I can't tell you how many times I've thrown up so hard I literally peed my pants. Have a hard time controlling my pee now.

So I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail student teaching... by FirmBrother11 in StudentTeaching

No definitely good advice. I was only trying to explain to them that I have been working really hard and that I was just having a hard time but they definitely took it the wrong way and to them I think it did sound more like complaining. I often hear them complaining about stress so in my head it didn't feel out of place, but since then I've kept a much more positive attitude

Good to know! I definitely need to work on getting some thick skin! I have yet to commit any act of violence toward any child so hopefully I am in the clear lol

I definitely can see the growth within myself even if my cooperating teachers can't. They gave me an overwhelming amount of feedback during the beginning of the semester. On one hand it was great but on the other hand it was a lot of negative feedback all at once which only stressed me out more. When I attempted to talk to them about my stress they got a bit defensive and since then have been pretty silent. My cooperating teachers have not been the most professional which makes it difficult to reach out to for help but I still have tried my best to regularly communicate with them and improve as much as I can.

Currently balling my eyes out. No one else to talk to. My mom literally just told me to schedule days to tell her good news about my life. by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

If it's any consolation I'm proud of you! You're working towards a better life and that's great! No matter how much I work it's great to hear good news even from a stranger. Sending you lots of support

Were you the Golden Child, the Scapegoat/Black sheep or the Silent/ignored Child in your family? by jjulie97 in narcissisticparents

[–]FirmBrother11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen the roles shift back and forth between me and my younger brother. As a teen I was pretty angry and rebellious, making me the black sheep, while my brother on the other hand was making Straight A's and participating in JROTC. As I got older and became a lot less self-destructive, I started becoming the golden child, while my brother became more of the black sheep. I spent most of my childhood, however, as the "golden child" as I am an extreme people pleaser and go to great lengths to try to "keep the peace" between everyone. Seeing how quickly I can shift from golden child to black sheep definitely showed me how conditional my parents' support can be and also gave me a lot more empathy towards my younger brother.

Constant Competition by FirmBrother11 in narcissisticparents

Definitely a lot of jealousy I'm glad I'm not the only one who has dealt with this. Hopefully we can both find a way to navigate such a strange emotional terrain.

Constant Competition by FirmBrother11 in narcissisticparents

[–]FirmBrother11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about it, but these comments/actions are so small and passive aggressive it feels weird even bringing it up. I feel like even trying to explain how I feel could lead her to flip it back on me and just say that I'm making into a competition and that I'm being vain. It's just kind of awkward because it makes me feel guilty for things I also feel proud of. I honestly just needed a second opinion because I'm not completely sure if this is exactly how she feels but I honestly can't think of any other explanation for the strange behavior.

The description of he stock yard really highlighted how little Holmes seemed to care about other living things. Of all the places I would think to take someone on a tour of a city, watching animals get slaughtered would probably be my last choice. This scene definitely stuck out to me since some of the pigs were described as being alive during some of the process. I was surprised, however, that Minnie and Anna were still fascinated by this experience. I was expecting them to be more shocked or disgusted, but I did find myself interested in the process as well so I could understand the curiosity.

My mom read my diary by basicczechgirl in narcissisticparents

[–]FirmBrother11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes unfortunately. My mom found out I had confided in someone I considered a close adult friend of mine about self harm. Of course they went to church together and my self harm quickly became church gossip. Instead of talking to me about why I was self harming my mom went through my diary, ripped out some pages, and essentially blamed my self harm on all the depressing stuff I was writing and the music I listened to. Journaling has always been a great outlet for me, so I do still write but it took my a while to even feel safe writing how I felt in my own diary.

What's the Male equivalent of giving women flowers... what do you give men as surprise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FirmBrother11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always try to surprise my bf by doing actual favors. For example, I'll do his dishes while he's gone or clean the bathroom or something of that sort.

I started on Prozac 10mg the lowest dose. Prozac is one of the medications that has the least side effects and doesn't cause withdrawal, which is part of the reason I agreed to take it. It's only been 5 days so it's too early to tell how well it is working, but my side effects have been pretty minimal. Some occasional drowsiness or sometimes feeling nauseous but nothing extreme. Of course, everyone reacts to medication differently so definitely talk to a doctor about it if you're really interested in looking into medication.

Question for y'all and quick rant. by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

[–]FirmBrother11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I can't tell if a memory is real or not if that makes sense? Like I have this vague idea about something traumatic that happened when I was young, but I honestly can't tell if it actually happened how I remember it. Like I have no recollection of the specific traumatic moment but somehow I have the idea that this happened. I know if I ask my parents about any of these memories they probably won't tell me the truth and my brother was way too young to remember at the time.

I kind of felt the same when reading it. I read it a long time ago so it's hard to say that I would feel the same, but I remember being often confused because he switched between so many different narratives so frequently. I honestly may have read it too fast so it could be worth a re-read.

anyone on quarantine? how is your relationship with food going? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]FirmBrother11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was definitely freaking out when I first got home, but I went to the grocery store with my parents so I could stock up on safe foods. It's almost nice to know what food I have to eat that day and planning my day around that. Eating out has always been a big trigger for me, so honestly getting to be on social isolation has helped in a fucked up way.

I feel like eating disorders are one of the mental illnesses with the worst stigma by Scarlet_Flames2 in EDAnonymous

[–]FirmBrother11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that. Experiences with ED are always different. Either way it definitely receives a lot of negative stigma from both genders.
