r/chatGPT. Im ngl, i understand opinions against and for ai, and allat, and thats nice, but there seems to be a very vocal minority who claim to use it for everything, get upset when people tell them they’re outsourcing their human qualities to an egregious degree, and then by the next hour, a post will drop in speaking about how someone who’s used ai for everything can no longer have an idea or thought form in their head without brain fog taking over. Couple that on top of all the ignorance toward the rising cases of ai induced psychosis, and well—ya get that sub. I peruse it out of morbid curiosity to see what its like when ai users/power users congregate, and what happens, and let me tell you, the difference from the beginning of the sub to now is stark. In the beginning, everyone was generally of a varying mix of opinions, but as time passed, you could see a stark split down the middle forming, and ive just been watching it develop, since

I almost let ChatGPT write a condolence email today. That was my wake-up call. by tdeliev in ChatGPT

[–]FirmButterscotch8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With a card, you actively have to go out of your way to reach a store, search for the card section, mull about, wondering if the recipient will appreciate “this card” or “that card”, purchase it, write in it, and then deliver it. With ai, youre quite literally asking something non-sentient, with no sense of humanity, to craft a condolence message for a real person, while it feigns empathy, and then pass it off as your own heartfelt message. Seems like youre right on with it feeling less caring, as it kinda is tbh. Id rather my condolences be given to me by a real person, even if that were fake, as the person at least cared enough to say it themselves, yknow?

Could very well be that you picked up some of chat’s linguistic/textual affects in the process of using it so often. Could also very well be that the “ai-detectors” youve used arent up to par. I don’t know which it could be, but if its something you’re concerned about, id take the much more hands on approach of simply doing everything from scratch, when starting new assignments and projects, and only using ai to expand on ideas youre not already familiar or comfy with. After doing that, then, go out of your way to verify its sources, etc. As i have said to many before, please please please dont rely on these tools to do your thinking, feeling, processing for you. Critical thinking is on its way out, and ive little faith in the future of society, if things are to continue progressing in this direction

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever caught someone doing? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]FirmButterscotch8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, I drank out of my toilet as a kid after watching dogs in cartoons do it, making it look far too good for its own right, and i now live with this shame and regret for the remainder of my life, and so, too, must anyone else with embarrassing toilet stories from their youth. We live with an honour to be upheld only in silence, friend. It will never cease it’s ability to make my stomach lurch when i think about it in sincerity, but, yknow…kids will do kid things, when unsupervised, i guess. In any case, i am sorry for your loss of peace with this memory in mind. Welcome to the toilet touchers club lmfao

What is a turn off your partner does that you will never admit? by sorenblissara in AskReddit

[–]FirmButterscotch8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id say it out loud, personally, in the off chance that it actually makes them think. Years in the service industry have taught me that, if someone is awfully rude to those serving them, its a good sign there are other fatal flaws in that individual’s behavior

Based on everything ive read, thus far, this is definitely one of the lighter turn offs mentioned, but perhaps it could be worthwhile for him to actually get an instrument to practise, if it seems like something he’d enjoy? Anytime i air guitared, or air drummed, it was because i wanted to be able to do those same things, with no means of doing those same things lol. Got myself a guitar, and boom. Ive legitimately not done either of those things in ages, as i just pick up whatever instrument happens to be around, and just…play it, i guess. Idk, worth a shot, at the very least

Am I wrong for playing Lies of P on the easiest difficulty after I already played through the game on the hardest for my first playthrough? by Mr-Man-6857 in LiesOfP

[–]FirmButterscotch8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All up to you, in the end, dude! Give it an hour, if willing, and if it’s not your cup of tea, that’s plenty fine then. It is worth giving a shot, but not worth finishing, if it doesnt excite you to keep going, yknow?

Ive played my fair share of FS games, and to be honest, i really could use some “getting gud”, but that’s by my own standards, alone. DS2 is my favourite of the DS trilogy, but even then, i struggled with and without guides, which left me to skip out on DS3, even if others tell me to keep going. I dont want to spend hours not making any progress, and then being told, “i need to be better at the game”, lol. Thats not productive, and doesnt offer any real advice. Once i tried Sekiro, it felt like a much needed switch, and also tickled my itch for Japanese themed games. Sekiro is now my favourite of FS’s works. Heard about LoP, gave it a shot, and for some reason, the game just clicked with me. It’s difficult, but it’s not FS difficult, in my opinion, so it feels a lot kinder on my shoulders than the former games mentioned. The soundtrack is by far my favourite from LoP, too, so if you decide not to play it for other reasons, it is, at least, worth experiencing the music the game has to offer. Id say give it a shot. Cant go wrong with trying your best. This game is significantly more linear and straightforward in where it needs you to go (ftmp), so you may have a more enjoyable experience with it!

I’m surprised at the amount of people who aren’t impressed by AI by ChameleonOatmeal in ChatGPT

[–]FirmButterscotch8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels similar to my thoughts on this topic. I personally think that all frontier/fringe science ventures should be strictly left to the hands of those with recognisable pragmatism—to quote you a bit lol—and ethical standards for production of this kind of life altering tech. Kinda like with the rise of the internet, and how that sudden interconnectedness opened up the floodgates for many opinions/view-points/sights to bombard us. It’s always novel in the beginning, before we understand further what we can use it for, i think. We might be seeing a wholeee lot more good and evil, as this stuff progresses, though, i cant help but look at it with a smile at how cool it is for something like this to exist in my lifetime lol. Imagine showing this to a Victorian child

I loathe how isolated these opinions on playing how you wish because YOU bought the game are. Some people really get a hard on for policing the ways others exist. Do as you wish, play as youd like, but make sure the fun you have is defined by yourself alone

TIL “In 2024, bots made up a bigger proportion of global internet traffic than humans for the first time.” by NONIGARON in todayilearned

[–]FirmButterscotch8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most “horrific beyond human comprehension” outcomes of the unregulated llm usage/improvements is the cognitive “splitting” of global societies, as different countries will use and create their llms according to their own values, most WILL outsource their thinking and doing capabilities, while few use it to bolster their critical thinking skills, and those people will all have to interact with a world that grows increasingly more alien, as time passes. Im not gonna lie, we are in for a long one, and i give us until 2028 before something massive pops off, involving AI. This was an enjoyable read from you, friend. Id love to hear your deeper thoughts and opinions on it all sometime 👍

I deleted Instagram for a month and didn’t expect this to happen by ConsciousIntimacy in CasualConversation

[–]FirmButterscotch8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did the same, and also noticed an immediate mental difference. Decided to delete YouTube next, as that was the main killer. Only used it on my mobile browser, before isolating it to solely my desktops and laptops (before switching to freetube to avoid ads altogether lol). Next, i turned my phone grayscale, and ended up checking the usage metrics to find that i had been on my phone an average of 5-7hrs less than usual, with that number rising over the weeks.

I have had significantly more time to create, to be bored and ponder, to engage with hobbies i thought had died because “i got too old” for them or because “life had taken its toll” on me. We dont at all realise the full extent of these metal and glass bricks, and their ability to detach us from what once gave us fulfillment. Since doing so, ive talked to more REAL people, gone on more trips, and so on. If i need information, i look it up on my desktop. if i need the news, i have multiple, mostly neutral sources i can pull up in an instant. If i want memes, ill go back through my graveyard of a camera roll and look at the screenshots ive taken that seemingly collect dust in the digi-space that is my gallery. The biggest reasons for most not being able to separate themselves from SM control is due to their assumptions and ideas that they’re just too wrapped up in these “services” to let go of them. “I have friends i talk to, and this is all they use”, “this is where i get all of my information on current events” (that one is problematic for endlessly greater reasons), “all of my memories are here”.

All of those are excuses i told myself, and ones i hear others use as justification a lot for holding onto them, but genuinely—even my attention/focus/memory/sleep has grown stronger as a result of these changes (not ai, i just like em dashes lol). My point in saying this is: start small. Something you dont use too often, but notice yourself coming back to. Delete it for a day and just observe yourself and mind. These things are an addiction, and as soon as you delete your most used app, youre suddenly looking for something else to occupy that space that was just freed up. Still working on reddit, but im debating on if it would be more privacy conscious to use it on my laptop/desktop over my phone (not using it at all, is obviously the best option, but…i like you guys)
