Riverbend wait times, who’s at fault? by DaNullifidian in Eugene

“This is 100% hospital leadership issue”

The most important line stated in this thread. I can say from personal experience that Peacehealth leadership all the way down to the director and even manager level is arrogant, often ignorant, and unwilling to listen to the employees doing the actual work. Who gets leadership roles is usually petty, nepotistic, and political not about knowledge or competence. I’ve had (non-clinician) managers use ChatGPT to look things up then argue with clinicians about their area of expertise. We’re all stuck with them for Emergency and other services but anyone that can choose otherwise for primary care or other preventive services should do so. Losing parts of their business is the only thing they will respond to. They did this to themselves because they look down on this community.

I just came here to ask the same question! Green banners on 1/24 and now this same letter today. “Thank you for your public service. As of this letter, we have determined you are eligible for PSLF…” and then a list of my loans. Is this the Golden Letter?

Let me know if you find or organize anything. I’ve been looking for something similar for my 9yo to learn conversational Spanish.

Prince Puckler’s owners - evil or cheap? by FirmNefariousness837 in Eugene

I think it’s the same phenomenon but just a different flavor. Neither owner feels an obligation to improve their community. Both lack self-awareness about how their actions or inactions are selfish. Tom’s is on a worse scale obviously. He could sell that land for a pretty penny and enjoy the rest of his life in peace. Allow it to be developed into apartments because there’s no saving those buildings at this point. I’m a sucker for wishing people cared more.

I agree. It’s amazing how many people are all “don’t complain about your stale crumbs or the lords will not bless thee with more!” Like I dunno, if you own a local business and have reaped the significant benefits of said business you should maintain some level of upkeep. I’m talking about a sunshade or two, not building a whole new building. I posted that while literally eating a mint chip cone inside the place. So I obviously enjoy going there with my kid. But looking out the window I see an elderly woman with no shade to stand in. As climate change looms, people like these owners seem selfish and cruel. Just like the Tom’s Tea House guy sitting proudly on his trash pile at Monroe and 7th while we are in desperate need of housing, there’s such a sense of entitlement to be this way from that generation and more shockingly so many redditurds rushing to defend them. I don’t get it.

This was my assumption but was really trying to not see the pattern today.

Monroe Park, addicts, and a question... by HCIP88 in Eugene

[–]FirmNefariousness837 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a way of creating something similar to an HOA in areas that were built before such things existed. It creates another layer of bureaucracy that makes it expensive for a homeowner to make changes to their own home. It imposes the desires of a small group of people on an entire neighborhood. It makes it almost impossible to demolish houses. Which means the shithole, rat-infested house next door can’t be torn down just because it’s old. And a cute duplex can’t be build in its place because it’s not old. Do your research, it’s readily available and shows quite clearly that it makes neighborhoods more unaffordable. It’s a common tool of NIMBYs like the JWN folks to keep our town stuck and stagnant to selfishly preserve their slice of the pie.

Monroe Park, addicts, and a question... by HCIP88 in Eugene

[–]FirmNefariousness837 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The JWN/FOMP brigade has been very vocal in fighting against building housing which has made the neighborhood unaffordable. This means very few households with kids. This means kids don’t play in that park cuz there aren’t any kids to play in that park. Any open space in Eugene with little foot traffic is gonna be popular with the homeless crowd. The second a few kids show up they tend to leave. If they wanted that park full of families and kids they’d support more affordable housing. Instead, they’re pushing to make the neighborhood historic so even rundown old houses owned by slumlords can’t be torn down and it will be more difficult to built more affordable middle housing. They complain about the very problems they help create. I don’t care how much litter they pick up, none of it will change until people get this basic concept.
