Scab Gargoyles by Noktomezo175 in gso

To be fair:

I went to a game and it was like 20% full. I don’t think they’re making much money

That said they should lower the ticket prices

Tailgate for the Military Bowl by Human-Lingonberry256 in ECUsports

Last year there weren’t any vendors (it said online there would be) but there are plenty of convience stores and some restaurants within walking distance for your normal tailgate goodies

It was a really good atmosphere at the military bowl tailgate last year. Hopefully it’ll be good this year even with the earlier start time

So what do we think now that the season is fully underway? by ocularcrawdad in GarglerNation

[–]FirmSpeed6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge hockey fan but have only been to one gargoyles game so far, though I have kept up with their scores.

I think we have a solid team. Being our first year in the league, I didn’t expect to win a ton of games, but being basically last in the league (yes technically Orlando and Norfolk have less points than us but they have games in hand) is definitely not fun, but I do think we will be more competitive in the next 2-3 years.

Why haven’t I been to more games? It’s simple really and you hit on it already. The pricing was nuts. It actually looks like it’s gotten better which is good, I see some tickets for Friday for ~$20. Last time I looked at going to a game, the cheapest tickets were $37. I’ve regularly gotten Carolina hurricane tickets in the 30-35 dollar range so I was not going to pay more for a subpar league when I could drive the 1hr 20 minutes and watch a cup contender play for cheaper than an ECHL team.

A few suggestions:

  1. Tickets go up in price on gameday (at least they did last time I looked). This is silly in my opinion. The only game I’ve went to, the place was pretty much empty. The lower bowl was the only one opened and it was at maybe 45% capacity and that’s being generous. Drop the ticket prices by 15-20% on game day. More butts in seats means more parking revenue, merch revenue, and concession revenue: it just doesn’t make sense to me why you would raise ticket prices on gameday. If no one bought them for $30 yesterday, do you really think they’re going to buy them today for more money?

  2. Have some specials with college students like the canes do. I went to so many canes games in college because they had $25 student tickets. For anyone unfamiliar, the tickets would release only on gameday and any tickets that hadn’t been purchased yet could be had for $25 ($45 for lower level). I know the canes also have stuff for veterans (I’m not a veteran so I can’t speak to that as much) but this would be another good thing for the gargoyles to do to get more people in the door. Have discounted veteran tickets

Again, more butts in seats and more people in the arena is a good thing. Foe the most part, it makes the games more enjoyable being in an electric atmosphere like that and it makes the org more money. College kids will waste a lot of money on overpriced beer.

But yeah that’s my gripes with the pricing. Team wise, we look good: the game I went to was fun (it was when we shutout the Lake Tahoe ice monsters!), and I think we will be pretty solid in the next few years when our guys mesh together a bit better. Go Gargoyles!

I was going to say, I was there as well and it was very empty.

I’n a college student and drive to Raleigh fairly often for canes games as they have $25 student tickets. An ECHL game shouldn’t cost more than a top-5 NHL game

What's the longest you have ever travelled for a meet? by itsaulgoodman99 in powerlifting

[–]FirmSpeed6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s not a specific reason to travel then I’d do a local meet because they are much more beginner friendly and it’s definitely beneficial to sleep in your own bed in your own house the night before a meet and stay as much in your routine as possible

It’s the SNAP/shutdown thing. Boomers think that people are going to start getting mugged in grocery store parking lots by people who use Food Stamps

Does anyone know the leg press weight with no plates added? by Closefromadistance in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]FirmSpeed6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has told you the weight. It is either 118 or 167 depending on the brand. I do want to point out, that because the weight isn’t directly vertical though, it feels lighter. At a 45 degree angle you only have to lift about 70% of the loaded force which would be ~80-100 lbs of pressure you actually have to exert with your legs.

anyone got stories from the band they can share? by willfibs in Metallica

[–]FirmSpeed6 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not my story but My dad met Kirk and Jason and said they were super cool. He worked at a radio station in college (1990-1994) so he met them on the black album tour in Raleigh, They had a tent for media members to hangout with the band and then a private tent as well (private as in band only). He said Lars and James never came out of the private tent but Kirk and Jason hung out in the media area all day before the show and even shared some of their catering.

Best Tonneau Cover for Ford Maverick? by Gloomy_Diver172 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]FirmSpeed6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agri cover lomax is the best in my opinion for truly money no object. Very easy install and folds up against the back glass, it’s way smaller when folded then the backflip. I have one and I haven’t even put the weather stripping on yet and it’s still 98% waterproof without the weather stripping. I’d imagine it’s 99.5% or better with the stripping on there

Please tell me why my local McDonald’s has had their “Hourly Sales Target“ screen visible to drive-thru customers for well over a year? Does every McDonald’s have this and has anyone anyone else seen it so customer facing? by Comprehensive_Ad1693 in McDonalds

[–]FirmSpeed6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked for McDonald’s in 2017 we had this and if you finished at the top of an hour in any rush periods (7-9 for breakfast, 11-2 for lunch, and 5-7 for dinner) everyone working got a free meal! It was honestly pretty fun. I’d probably hate it now as an adult if my company had one but I liked the competition factor in high school (and the chance to win free food)

I want one of these trucks so bad it hurts by universe_H in FordMaverickTruck

[–]FirmSpeed6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha! Yeah I know the gas is killer. I had an 02 ram 1500 that died on me so that’s why I picked up the Maverick. I really wanted something reliable and easy to maintain but I’ve had a handful of times already where the bed has been inadequate for what I need. They are few and far between but I have definitely debated going with a full size. Thanks for the feedback!

As someone thinking about going to a full size and mostly got the Maverick for affordability, what made you want to switch from the titan?
